Shoshone's is a quiet, subdued, yet powerful theme. Much like the War theme, it is excellent.

Morocco is one more in a series of tunes that aren't bad, they're just the "least good".

Brazil: What Brazil's peace them symbolizes for me in it's gentle sad tune is Pedro II's life. He may have been a great man who did everything he could to rule his country well. I think both his sons died (Mistaken here, just remembering on top of my head) and his marriage may not have been too happy.

But wanting the peace theme to be a happy Chega De Saudade (Look up Tom Jobim - Chega de Saudade) you will quickly see it doesn't quite suit Pedro II himself. Does this man look like a party animal to you? He wouldn't take it kindly of being called "Pedro the Party Animal". He is very devoted to his work and is often quite annoyed by your presence because while he finds it nice to speak with you, you interrupt his important work!

The theme suits his leaderscreen as well. He seems a bit isolated from the stereotypical carnival-ing people of Brazil, but it helps him think through his decisions. The night time further adds to the tranquility of the theme.

What if Pedro would've DANCED during his "Angry" stance? Or at least bonced on his chair during a happy Chega de Saudade song (Again, Tom Jobim).

No, he's a man of class, and his theme fully supports that.

France: While it sometimes catches the quirkiness o stereotypical cultural French, it is quite forgettable to me. Sorry.

If Russia gets bumped off before I can give my opinion, I will make a bonus mention next time.

I suppose you could argue that Russia's theme sounds more like a war theme, but who cares ? It's awesome, those choruses in the background really make the whole thing work in my opinion.... as for not sounding russian enough, lol, it's a piece by a Russian composer (Prokofiev), so...

Meanwhile, Morocco's theme is so bad that I always turn off the music and listen to something else if I'm playing Morocco. It tried to be distinctive, but only succeeds at being insufferable.

France: Their war theme may sound awesome, but this doesn't.

Whereas people are entitled to their opinion, I am suspecting some themes are subject to "Peer pressure downvoting" in that they get downvoted beause they've been downvoted before. I mean, try to listen to a theme you've never listened to! Again, it is your opinion. I shall attempt to mix it up. In fact, I think I'm going to experiment!

Russia: It is cold and menacing. PErfect fit for Russia. While I've heard that some Russians think it still sounds too happy, they're at least pleased it's not the Volga Boatsmen. Again, very fitting for this civ and Catherine. Makes her appear more imposing and let you know that messing with her is NOT a good idea.

Oh no, I just imagined how Catherine would apepar to the Volga Boatsmen. Would she waddle to the song?

Korea: I'm not just downvoting this because it's untouched, but having listened to it really makes me realize how boring it is. It doesn't feel special and I feel like I walked in on Sejong while he was sitting on the toilet. Not memorable at all of a theme if you ask me.

Brazil: What Brazil's peace them symbolizes for me in it's gentle sad tune is Pedro II's life. He may have been a great man who did everything he could to rule his country well. I think both his sons died (Mistaken here, just remembering on top of my head) and his marriage may not have been too happy.

No, he's a man of class, and his theme fully supports that.

Just wanted to say, Chega de Saudade is a Bossa Nova song, a genre that is not supposed to be cheery, and most definitely not a dance tune! It's a lot like quiet Jazz, not depressing, but still somewhat melancholic. It's uplifting, but much in the same way as seeing a small smile after a long time of sadness.

So yeah, just saying, Chega de Saudade is not a party song. Far from it.

Anyway!

After some pondering, I reached the conclusion that France's theme has some things going against it, such as the Can Can not being a good representative of France (La Marseillaise was an obvious choice, but a more fitting one), said melody being understated, and its intended purpose being better accomplished by other Peace themes, like Austria's and the Dutch.

Meanwhile, the general dislike Japan's peace theme is surprising me (especially considering its War theme is doing well). If the entire song was like its beginning, sure, but it isn't, it develops really well.

Sorry about that, I've never been good with musical genres. The version I listened to sounded cheery to me, although I don't understand the lyrics. And the war variation - despite not being a dance song, is incredibly catchy, which led me to believe that PEdro would try to bust a silly old man move along with it.

Yeah, Bossa Nova is melancholic, but usually brings a smile to one's face (in case you're curious, the lyrics are essentially saying "No more sadness, no more longing")

The War Theme is most definitely not Bossa Nova, though. Same original tune, but remixed into a different genre. And it does sound pretty awesome.

I really don't get what the rest of you dislike about Morocco's peace theme. It's distinctive, it's catchy, and it really gives the vibe of a Saharan trading outpost. It makes me want to hang out with Ahmad and drink tea while camels drink from the oasis. Of all the AI's, he seems the friendliest, a really chill guy, and I enjoy everything about making trade deals with him.

The Ottomans - Exotic, yet majestic - I love the modulations. Faster than most other peace themes with nice changes in tempo contrasting cheerful and sombre chords; very well done altogether.
