Civ V - One World Speculation Thread!

I'd like more diverse graphic appearance of units, but i think the differentiation between civs is already sufficient. There are already enough threads about how certain civs are better than others and more diversity would only serve to compound that problem.

I'd also rather they kept back UU and UB's for new civs, the more diversity the better and i'd much rather have a greater choice of more balanced civs than a smaller selection of wildly specialised civs.

Since most units are only usable for a short time it should not be hard to spread out the new units in different ages to solve that problem. And there could be more unique hex improvements.

For instance:
  • Babylon could have a ziggurat as a better temple.
  • Sweden could have a better forest improvement called Mill town that give an extra production and gold and/or a light field cannon as uu.
  • Denmark could have longboats instead of triremes that can travel on ocean square from start
  • England could have a better battleship and/or a new sort of way to create colonies or protectorates of city states.
  • Germany could have their fighter Messersmiths (or how it is spelled).
  • France can have Mote and bailey (or how it is spelled) the scenarios improved fort
  • Rome can have a better aqueduct and/or perhaps a improved courthouse called Forum giving extra happiness and making conquering worth wile.
  • China could have a cheaper infantry and/or improved factory perhaps more production but cost one more unrest.
.

The list goes on. Its not hard to think of new things for each civ that indeed would make the game more fun.

I would also like new buildings that buff certain resources. For instance a textile mill that give an extra gold and culture on cotton and silk and sheep.

Re. the map trading, I think it could work as a sort of 'exploration agreement' - you need to have a connection of the tiles explored in order to have contact (i.e. your revealed tiles must overlap with their revealed tiles), so why not make it so that you pay gold like a research agreement and then get tiles revealed that are ajacent to tiles you already have revealed?

I would like to see something like this too. Maybe while the agreement is hot, you get their tiles that are explored.

If this is real that will likely be it for future Civ V releases.

One World huh. Mabye we'll finally get Indonesia. Doesn't get much more 'one world' than that. I mean, even the Netherlands entire UA name "Dutch East India Trading Company" revolves largely around Indonesia, historically

That wouldn't solve the problem at all. Already civs have varied (and in some cases matched) UU's and UB's timewise, and their uses differ greatly in effectiveness. Adding a third element to that will only serve to compound existing balancing issues

I'd like to see cities linked by rivers form trade routes without having a road inbetween them. That is how, especially in earlier times, trade was done. Move stuff up and down the river to get it where it needed to go. Possibly make some kind of building that needs to be built in both cities for it to work.

I'd really like to see a Sioux Civ!

i'm guessing coffee and tobacco will be implemented

I wonder if Tobacco will be implemented or not, because it might raise the rating from E to Teen? I know absolutely NO ONE CARES in this forum about that, but the gaming industry may.

How great is it to have a system in which nuking the crap out of everyone, waging relentless war, having one figure speak of human sacrifice (Monty), and having another intentionally striking a pose that can be described as seductive (Theodora- that had to be the intent, at least) is perfectly fine, but the growth and sale of tobacco is too much XD

You mean the Civ4 vassal system? It's extremely horrible, IMHO, but there is a good chance it'll be back. Because... well, recycling is good, I guess. :D

I never played Civ 4. Poorly implemented or just doesn't work in a Civ context?

I really do not have any guesses on what "One World" would be but i am a bit surprised there is not some sort of map trading in this game. CiV is a fairly streamlined game, a lot of the not so much fun aspects for most players have been removed.

In CiV at least to me it is somewhat of a pain and removes me from the fun aspects of the game when every turn I have to guide a scout through a horde of AI military just to scout the map. If I am in the middle of a war and between my military units assaults the map swings away from the action so I can guide a scout around is a bit aggravating at times.

What I would like to see in another expansion:

* Expansion of techs into the future I know this is not going to happen and is really quite unreasonable, not so much on a game play aspect but in the reality that further civ games would probably have to keep pace with their vanilla product and that would never happen or be a sound idea economically for the game builder.

* A wider tech tree/more resources and resource buildings. Personally I want a slower game but this is like the above stretching of the tech tree in a linear fashion. It just will not happen and most players would not really enjoy it. And no, larger maps and stretched tie is not the type of longer game I want. Although that is fine and I really used to enjoy that kind of play it is just not great when it seems a bit unbalanced and more importantly there are not more things to do in that time.

* Combo wins What I mean by this is a more sandbox approach to the game. So what if Sejong beats me to the space ship. what if I am close to building it and finishing the Utopia project. Why can't i have a "higher win" if I complete both. why is my spaceship production disabled?

* Towns Smaller towns with a limited sphere of influence. Maybe only a couple of tiles. Very limited in growth and capacity but good for filling in a few gaps but with little defense capability.

The way out there ideas... which may be turned on off by the user.

* Deep sea fishing

* Depleted resources.

* Some type of terraforming. And way way... out there in-discoverable lands until a certain tech or unit is acquired.

* Tougher transformation to the next era. maybe lioke you must finsh a small but a bit costly civ dependent type of wonder/policy etc...

* Locked eras and era victories. Goal oriented era victories/bonuses. Short game fun and with the ability to transfer this success to your longer game.

Whatever a new expansion is what I really want most out of it is something more compelling in the late game.

Tea and coffee, please.

More important than that, if "One World" has anything to do with globalization, trade, ecology etc., I'd like to see more uses for Oil, besides unit creation. A factory upgrade should do it.

It'd be nice to see some manufactured resources as well, like computers, pharmaceuticals or earlier goods.

Yep, along with my long list above i would also like to see combo resources/buildings create a new item for trade. And things like you need a somewhat reneable forest resource for building wood ships, etc... to much for the AI I suppose.

Diversity in the appearance of units would be really nice.. kind of how the Polynesian sea transport has its unique look. Just take inspiration from the R.E.D. mod. it just makes it look cooler than uniform rifleman vs uniform rifleman.

also, colonies or villages or settlements or anything of the sort would be great. way to expand your empire without having to invest culture into a new city....

more strategic resources would be nice, but i hardly use all; the coal aluminium as it is, i cant even trade it away as there is so much of it usualy. but hey just more reason to tweak them to perfection.

The name sound to me like an emphasis on modern times/late game with globalisation as its focus. If that's the case, I'm wondering whether some more modern nations (ie Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Australia etc) could be a chance of featuring somehow...

Probably just wishful thinking, but I'll take whatever civ can offer :)

Iv!

Yes, and also implement traderoutes, i hope

As far as resources are concerned, the two most important ones currently missing are rice and maize. 3 continents lived off these...

After that, luxury resources could include cocoa, coffee, tea, jade, obsidian, seashells, feathers
