Falklands War PBEM

Argentinian copter shot down.

Academia, to me it seems to make little sense to release the helicopters on the island so early. My carrier could not even possibly have enough time to get down there so early.

Apparently alone Argentinian destroy sunk by CAP on long distance patrol. It is uncertain if this was a lone action or not. Fleet is placed on heightened battle alert.

What tricks is Darius up to?

Planes launched from the 25 de Mayo sink 2 british subs with missiles on board, one destroyer, an empty transport, and two sea harriers.

Academia, what's the deal with the british ships in this version? They're goddam invincible! In the other game you sank my destroyers with some mirages, and in this one I can't even sink one with 4+ bombers!

Yeah, I was playing against the AI and it took 5 Pucaras to kill a British Frigate. Though I guess it is kinda realistic; the British had better ships. And I can still win with the British advantage.

Argentinian Fleet Decimated

Despite the loss of two nuclear submarines, incluyding the splendid, the English Fleet has been able to strike back, and destroyed the Argentian fleet attacking the Task Force.

Predictbly, the Argentinian's attacked to the east. This left the Sheffield, whose brave captain had manuevered her with only the support of one frigate, directly south of the Argentinian Fleet. The Sheffield then struck north, encountering a Heavy Argentinian Cruiser and the 25 de Mayo Carrier, both of which were defeated and sunk under superior English Firepower.

Two Argentinian Destroyers have also been sunk. Strangely, a supply of exocet missiles were found to be seemingly floating in the sea. We are unsure as to how this has happened? Surely the missiles must have been dead, but anyways those have been demolished.

3 Argentinian Mirages were also shot down, one Pucara is going to escape.

Meanwhile, elements of the Royal Navy, operating from Chilean waters and a secret base, have intercepted the Argentinian relief fleet, and sunk two transports, sending 8 units to a watery grave.

Argentinian gunboat and Puma sunk by helicopters.

Argentinian bomber spotted at the assembly point, being tracked by a frigate.

We urge Argentina to surrender, and withdraw from the islands that are rightfully ours.

Yay.

That fast?

Anyway, I don't think attacking the English Base is what academia had in mind. ;)

I know, I was just f'in around, here's the file without capturing it.

- 16 units of unknown types sent to the bottom of the Atlantic on their way from Britain to the Falklands. I guess this makes up for my useless fleet. After all, the reason I sent it east was to sink some transports, not destroyers, and I did just that.

Ok, a brief look at the file (rather than writing my astro paper) makes it appear you sent the bomber to the upper corner. Then, when the Chilean terrain disapeared, and before I could even move my damm forces, you bombed them. Thanks for exploiting the flaw in the scenario design.

And I'll admit, the destroyer from the english base was cheap too. Note the frigate was from Chile itself, so I consider that valid.

Edit: Was there no destroyer on those units to provide air cover? Your bomber is hardly damaged.

Ok. let´s answer your critics... :p

Pinkygen
ooh, with a range of two, this really hurts the English. But I guess you learned from my missiles hunting enemy ships, then returning to base.
Exactly. And its more realistic

Did he increase the defense on ships even more? I remember it being very potent the last round, it was very hard to attack ships with exocets when they were properly escorted by the destroyers, or even frigates.
No, I didn´t. I just changed the veteran status of the exocets. I think I should give it again.

Well, maybe one turn later.

Darius and his old tricks
Do I have to include air cover in the "trap terrains" too?????

Darius:

You're too used to the old version; apparently now even three or four exocets can't sink a destroyer, let alone two.
Don´t worry. I´ll give them veteran status again :)

One more time, it´s a veteran status problem.

Regarding exocets, i´ll fix the problem. Aircrafts... not sure.

hehe... nice joke Darius

Ohwell:

You are right, it´s realistic. However, it may affect game playability. I´m just testing it...

Not just exploiting a flaw; you could have defended against my planes getting that far east. ;)

Btw the transport was the strongest thing in the stack I think.

Two Argentinian submarines with missiles, another transport,

Port Stanley Captured, though not expected to hold. But what else should I do with an almost dead helicopter. It should be an enjoyable raid.

Numerous Argentinian aircraft shot down.

An eh round.

killed some stuff

Stupid file size problem. Shortened, killed a transport, some planes, some ships.

ho-hum

Invasion Begins!!!!

Argentina loses General Belgrano, other capital ships
The Gral Belgrano was sunk by a brave manuever from HMS Invincible. The carrier manuevered into range to launch SeaWolf Missiles at the air covered battleship. This manuever saved our brave Harrier Fighters from having to fly over the battleships formidable guns. The leftover SeaWolf and a harrier sunk another Argentinian task force composed of a heavy cruiser.

Port Stanley and Fitz Roy Base fly the Union Jack

The Liberation of the Falklands islands has begun! Port Stanley was taken without a fight. Fitz Roy was more heavily secure, but after repeated Air and Sea Bombardment, she too has been liberated. Troops now prepare for the Argentinian counter attack.

English airpower remains supreme, bombing Argentinian troops, destroying exposed bombers, and sinking another transport outside Darwin.

Troops are now digging in for the expected Argentinian counter-attack. The die has been cast, a battle of attrition now begins.

Thanks for the encouragement, but gloating aside, I am sure he still has plenty of planes and troops.

Im sure he does. It is just me and Darius going at it and having fun. Glad to see you are doing better than I did! And if you win I wont feeel so stupid anymore!

mmm... i feel that english units are extremely powerful this time...
Well, i think that´s great. I finally found the extremes of the scenario.
I remember that in the first versions, argentina was too powerful; and it was really hard for england to capture the cities.
But in this version... it seems that places have been switched.

Now, i think that i have enough info to create a really balanced scenario. However, in the other PBEM... argentina sank a british carrier... that shows that the english player must move the task force very carefully; no matter the quantity/quality of the units ;)

Counterattack? What counterattack, your units are invincible!

I shot down about two or three heavily damaged planes, and every other unit of mine just fortified since they are all completely useless.

[no offense] I don't know everything that you changed from last time, but this scenario is bordering on not being viable anymore. If you say the ships and planes are the way they are for historical accuracy, then what's the point of making a multiplayer game out of it? Either you have a historically accurate game in which one side will always win, or you have an inaccurate game that is at least playable. It depends on what you're looking for, but at the moment it's unplayable. How fun is a game where you have three dozen planes and you have to fortify each one because they can't kill anything? Even with kamikazes they can't make a dent in any British plane or ship. [/no offense]
