You need friends for more profitable trade.
Selling a duplicate Lux for 7 or even 8 GPT, or lump sums of gold to DoF AI is the best way to buy science buildings.
Buying universities gets them 10 turns sooner, and thus allows you to work the specialist 10 turns sooner.
If the AI is Neutral, or Guarded your looking at a lux trade for 4 or 5 GPT. That sucks. It will work out just as well if you have a lot of Duplicates to sell, but thats not always the case.
