This series did not have its own discussion thread, but now it does.

The intent of the series is that really anyone can post the next challenge after the minimum 7 days have passed since the previous challenge. That way the same one or two people are not spending all their time on this. Its good for diversity.

But, it looks like we need to establish some more etiquette with regards to posting challenges. I know we had one fanatic who was planning on posting an Augustus map, and then another fanatic posted a map before the first person had a chance.

So, here is the current state of things:
A Rome map was posted.
A second Rome map will be posted. Please post on Feb 12th at which time we will move on to the next leader in line.

Now, instead of dictating how I want things to proceed for the remainder of the challenges, I will open the forum to discussion. However, there must remain one constant, the maps must be standard size and standard speed.

My own opinion is that neither of these series is ever going to work without a proper host. People say there gonna do things and then dont. How can we know about etiquette when no one is doing anything. I posted a map for CDG and IAG and people were just messing around since.

Someone needs to takeover...

As this works on voluntary bases being a host is not exactly a well paid job and no one can be forced to do that. The next best thing is rotating hosts which may work as well and isn't too much of a burden for an individual the only obvious downside being the slower communication. On the plus side community as a whole taking over the hosting is that the process is less likely to fail due to individual lapses.

We managed through 43 DCL games in roughly due time mainly thanks to Acken & Consentient but it wasn't an effort of a single person - multiple people contributed to a variable degree to keep series alive so I don't see the future of CDG as doomed just because it doesn't have (atm) a dedicated host. The same goes for the Immortal versions of the series with different main hosts.

Posting a map is not equal to hosting a CDG hence the minor eff up & nothing happen. When the series was designed to work with a preset VC & 5 achievements in mind and neither of those were present anytime soon after the map was posted one really can't really blame people for waiting instead of playing.

Someone might take over & is, I assume, welcomed to take over but it's far from mandatory for these series to succeed by any means.

Sorry about the light hijacking of the thread for mainly CDG issues but the core problem doesn't follow demarcation lines between various levels and the solutions are the same - active players in various forms.

OK, put me in for Bismarck. I think I found a good map and I have a basic idea about the challenges. The challenges will be based upon military action in the early, middle and later eras, but the VC is open.

Here they are:
Spoiler :

The Spear Men: 1 PT - Kill any unit with a spear man.
Teutonic Knights: 2 PTs - Capture any city east of Berlin with a knight.
Mobilization: 3 PTs - Rush buy 10 riflemen.
Happy Time: 4 PTs - Sink a trade route, a battleship and an aircraft carrier from a single AI with a single submarine.

It will be Feb 18,19 or 20 depending on my schedule. Thanks!

don't want to butt in but late game Germany are all about Panzers, so I suggest the following:

1. Early game: convert X barbarian units by turn Y
2. Mid game: capture a city with a Knight which was an upgrade from Axe Man
3. Late game: Using blitzkrieg powered super panzers, pillage X tiles in one turn

obviously domination :D

Thanks for the feedback ST.

The first achievement is about the name German which means spearman. Its not too hard, almost a given.

Then the achievements roughly correspond to 1st Reich, 2nd Reich etc.

Now Panzers have been done before (see the previous German Immortal game), but here is what I came up with. It is 10 things, 1 point for each achievement.

Before Medieval
1. The Spear Men: Kill any unit with a spear man.

Before Industrial
2. Teutonic Knights: Capture any city with an Italian name.
3. Form an alliance with two other AI and capture a Holy city from a third AI.

Before Modern
4. Mobilization: Rush buy 10 riflemen.
5. Connect all your cities by rail.
6. Buy or build 6 iron clads.

Modern & beyond
7. Win International Games
8. Build your ideology building
9. Capture an enemy capital with a Panzer
10. Capture the last enemy capital with a Panzer

I rarely have time to play these days... but I do have a nice challenge for The Celts in stock!

Poland is up for grabs!

Lets discuss what kind of game it should be.

Despite the sudden and destabilizing nature of his submission, I have to say that I really like Consen... er, I mean enslingkorp's map. Thanks!

Put me in for Catherine and we will do some more Oil related activities. :)

Since I enjoy limitations on Immortal, most of the Achievements that come to mind are ways to hamper the player (preferably within a theme). I think it would be unusual, to say the least, if one was to have to build Guilds in reverse order of availability... You have to build Musicians Guild first, then Artists, then Writers. This might blend with some civ that had music as it's main artistic focus? It would certainly hamper the player setting up for an easy 1st vote WF trouncing and culture explosion. I expect it would mess up a lot of standard timings = a different feel to the game.

[edit] You could really be vulnerable to Ideological pressure early! Might need to focus on culture pantheons/religion...

I think that's the perfect job for Poland. Everybody Polka!

Ha, I like it! I will put my name on the host list for Poland with an asterisk. If somebody who hasn't hosted yet would like to jump in, that's fine with me.

Catherine's challenge is ready, the concept is proven.

Come Celts, come Poland!

Please put me down far America, one of the last ones.
