VMXA – The comment you made on 12 February 2006 about my previous deity victory (see attached File - 01-Civ Fanatics post Feb 2006), about "now do it with Diplo enabled" took root and grew to encompass my life, the universe and everything.

The adage "A victory with one victory condition disallowed is a hollow one." has echoed around my head on and on and on…and the only way out has been to buckle down for the past 2 years and 3 months, averaging 6 hours a week, to surmount the challenge you presented to finally (on 25 May 2008) win on Deity with all victory conditions allowed (including Diplomatic Victory).

It was the first time I have won a game of civilization in over 2 years, and being able to watch the Space Race video again was a treat. Once again I had a tough time stopping my enemies from beating me in the Space Race and had to destroy 10 spaceships (5 in Babylon, 2 in France and 3 in America) using 3 overseas armies with tactical nukes & ICBMs to boot.

Two years ago I also won a Space Race victory after destroying 4 space ships. It must say some thing about my playing style.

I played as Egypt, again. The game set-up was: Civilization 3 Vanilla with 1.29f patch, Standard Size Map, Barbarians Roaming, All Random Rivals, All Victory conditions allowed and Disallow Accelerated Production. Deity level.

Various other interesting and new (even after over 6 years playing this game) aspects that I experienced were that:
• a nuclear power station malfunctioned in 1988 and killed many citizens (new for me);
• there was severe environmental damage generally with the yellow sun in the status box in the bottom right hand corner, turning orange then an unhealthy hue of red and global warming, causing grasslands in my territory to change to plains and then to desert;
• it was not until 1730 that the first AI was destroyed (Rome);
• I had a real risk of losing right up to 2021 when I destroyed America's third space ship that had already been on 3(7)/10) for 4 turns.

It was not the most elegant of victories and I had to be nasty. My reputation was trashed, and both my economy and environment were in a mess for much of the time (as was the case with my opponents). However despite several strategic, tactical and plain dumb mistakes (e.g. killing some of my units with my own tactical nuke) I managed to win. I attach some print screens from the following years:

3550bc / 1300bc / 370bc / 620 (I often use the gift an especially created & un-wanted city to an overseas (& harmless) AI, then attack it with unique unit method to start my golden age) / 1500 / 1888 / 1966 / 2021 & 2027 (date of victory).

Once again many thanks to some of you folks who gave me advice over the past 2 years.

Wan Haiyang

Congratulations. that is some determination and it paid off for you.

I still hate diplo and won't allow it in my game because I find diplomacy to be offensive at best.
