Yeah, I only found out after I looked at the graphs at the end. There was an interesting bug where I can't see my gold, culture, etc. without founding the city. When I did, I found out I had about 430 gold (from goodie huts and barb camps).
You also can't get social policies, but you can found a pantheon.
