Civilization V: Brave New World Fall Patch Public Beta

Dennis, can I play this beta patch on my Mac version of Civ V?

You are supposed to be able to buy Landsknechts by unlocking a SP. But I cant find the SP...?

Unfortunately, the beta is for the Windows version only.

That's too bad, but understandable and not unexpected. When will the patch come out for the Mac? I can understand a delay but how significant?

We're testing the Mac version now. However, since there may be changes to the PC patch, it's impossible to give an estimate on when the Mac version will be out.

Ok thanks Ryan. The patch sounds like a big improvement, so I'll be expectantly waiting!

Quick question, is the beta patch available to anyone with the base game? Or are the expansions requisite? (Curious for friends of mine without the expansions yet).

Also, just putting it out there, some maps don't seem to appear in the additional maps sub-menu (such as: continents plus)

As mentioned by others in the thread I also seem to be experiencing longer turn processing times.

This happens even at turn 0 with any game I start. There is large amounts of lag/stutter making it hard to scroll the map or zoom in and out. Animations become very choppy.

If I disable the beta patch I go back to smooth and quick turn processing times. It seems the beta patch has made the game far more demanding in cpu power.

Specs:
Intel i5 750
8GB DDR3 Corsair
ATi HD 5850
Windows 7 64-bit Pro

I haven't noticed any longer turn times, they seem the same.

Although, during one of the very early turns, after I ended the turn, I thought the game froze because it was taking much longer than usual (which is usually really quick). If this helps diagnose any potential problem, after ending that turn, another civilization made contact with me. It was the first one for me.

The changes to the commerce tree are good on the whole. Now there is only 1 nearly worthless policy (mercenary army). For Mercenary Army to be worthwhile you have to open commerce directly after your first tree. This means that it would either replace patronage for consulates which seems superior in most cases or delay rationalism and your ideology. Landsknechts are not that good even though they are cheap. After the medieval era they quickly lose value. One option would be to decrease the gold cost for purchasing units. Another option would be to provide another unit like the landsknechts in the modern era. Guerillas perhaps?

Did you see that landsknechts have additional abilities now? They can pillage without using a movement, may move the turn they are purchased, and they double to amount of gold you get when they capture a city.

I'm going to play an awesome Venice domination game before the open beta is over.

The majority of changes are for Brave New World, but some of the other changes will reflect in all versions, so everyone is encouraged to try it out, regardless of which versions are owned.

Continents Plus is an Explorers Map Pack map. You'll find that under the Explorers menu (just below "Additional Maps").

This looks really awesome at first glance! I love the tourism changes, and while I would like more fixes to the diplo victory overall (I'll say it again, only the top 3 delegate receivers should be eligible to host the world congress, it would make politics a lot more interesting there!), the vote increase is definitely needed. The warmonger penalty changes is nice, the archaology and air combat changes look awesome, the deal AI looks a lot better now with the gpt/gold trick removed. Germany and Japan look pretty interesting now too, so I like that!

There's still a few other things that I think could be done, but overall this looks like a really good patch that fixes most of the so so stuff in BNW. Nice work!

Loving you guys at Firaxis....

Will the beta patch suddently disappear (i.e any point in starting long-term games?) when the week is over or will people still keep it?

Germany got changed, hanse is a nice addition. Japan also changed in an interesting way, when you add that Pantheon you could get +2 from fishing bots nice. Was planning to play Germany, but I will wait for now.

Till then, gonna play Warcraft III till (Orc Campaign - Spirits of Ashenvale (Chapter 4)). Don't know why did I even mention it. :crazyeye:.Real - Time Strategies biggest enemies of Turn - Based Strategies.:crazyeye:. Although "Earth Mother" Pantheon... hmm... There is something to this Firaxis ;)

I have to work on this before I send official info (at this moment I use beta drivers for my Radeon, so this can be a problem), but when computer calculates turns, animation is laggy from turn 0, and assigning specialists takes a "long" time. And another thing: tradition do not give free monument if there is one built.

Is the Patch Beta liable to change? (As the name implies)

I'm not quite sure what to make of Japan's new UA, but I will try it out. Also, one suggestion- please can you take the need for a river off the Candi? That and possibly taking away the continents need for Indonesia would make it a lot better, thanks.

Wrong thread for suggestions. And the entire point of the "Spice Islands" Indonesian UA is the different-continent rule.
