Hi there. My name is Kokomo. I am new and I've been trying to write a bit lately. This is the first time I have done this sort of thing, so I apologize if it is rather uneventful. Enjoy!

The Last Place on Earth

Nuclear war.

Nuclear winter.

Before we knew it, the weapons humanity had invented had destroyed us all, and we were locked into disaster, a nuclear winter. Our people were dying, and we had to escape. We, the last humans on Earth representing eighteen nations, had to find the only remaining place we could call home on this otherwise desolate planet.

Paradise?

- - - - -

Premise
The world has destroyed itself with nuclear weapons. The Earth is plagued by deadly radiation and rising sea levels. Civilization as we know it has been annihilated. However, eighteen of the Earth's nations were able to evacuate via ship to an island, a single tropical island, the only piece of land not drenched in radiation and infected with disease and mutation. This small piece of land could prove to be a viable utopia and refuge for humanity. Or, it could be too small for eight civilizations.

    - Era: Industrial (after the nuclear war, many technologies were lost)
    - Speed: Epic
    - Shoreline: Solid
    - World Wrap: Flat

Special Note: One-City Challenge is *NOT* turned on.

Chapter 1: We Have Landed

We will call it Neo-China. All we remember is that the world was plagued with radiation. China was somewhat responsible, along with Russia, Europe, and the United States. Communist China was a disturbed dream of the past. We are here to bring back real China, and spread our true Chinese culture to the only last habitable place on the planet. We have shipwrecked here, on this island, with some soldiers and settlers. We will defend our settlement before discovering what other nations may have come to this island. The flash before we arrived here, the rush, the fury, is all a blur. All I can write in this journal is that my people are tired, and they have chosen me to represent them.
- Qin Shi Huang

I was part of the landing crew. I was an artisan from Hong Kong in the old world. We have decided to name our cities Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, respectively. The island is beautiful. It is tropical, but features some temperate forests. They remind me of the trees north of Hong Kong, at Double Haven and around Shenzhen, where my sister used to live. There are two inland seas, a smaller one near Beijing, and a larger one near Guangzhou. Shortly after our crew landed and our new towns were being built, many other nations of the world came forward to greet us.
- Anonymous Neo-Chinese Pioneer

Our people have arrived to the island.

Beijing (Neo-Beijing) has been founded.

Shanghai (Neo-Shanghai) has been founded.

Chapter 2: Judaism & Religion

For some odd reason, the Chinese people began celebrating Judaism. Where was the Buddhism and Confucianism of my day? These younger Chinese were tolerant of all religions, and so I have decided to make Neo-China a country with freedom of choice. I believe that with this island being so small, and so many cultures and religions here, it is best to allow all faiths to spread freely in Neo-China's borders. That way, we can avoid many pointless conflicts and religiously-charged violence. We made many changes to our unorganized band of settlers that first arrived to this island. We quickly became more civilized, just as we were before the nuclear war began, with a few tweaks as we no longer agreed with the old communist government. Our three cities were established and growing. People were having babies, I was soaking in my immortal leader bath at the inland sea, and our rifle regiments were defending our cities from any mishaps. I remember the island in chaos, every country running around to find resources and found a city, explorers moving about chaotically. It was a mess. I think the organized Chinese people found their niche at this island very quickly, and that may very well be our strength for now. We have discovered many other nations here. Korea, for one, and Japan - fellow countries of Asia. The Russians, British, Germans, Neo-Romans, Arabians, Egyptians, Mongolians, Neo-Carthaginians, Iranians, just to name a few. We are now moving along smoothly, for the time being.
- Qin Shi Huang

Judaism was founded in Shanghai.

Our new civics. We will have Free Religion and Free Speech in our Neo-China.

Our small new island empire.

Chapter 3: Progress

Brennus of the Neo-Celts threatened us, telling us we should adopt an Organized Religion if we were to survive on this island. We politely declined, and sent his ambassador home on his little wooden boat, hoping that they do not decide to deliver us ultimatums in the future. We do not share an immediate border with them, so they do not present an immediate threat. It is odd that they would desire the backwards ways of the old world, a world without religious tolerance. Religion was not what destroyed our old world, but those who used religion to spread their twisted ideologies, whether it be evangelical Christian or Islamic fundamentalism. It was lack of tolerance that annihilated our planet. I will not succumb to threats by those who did not learn this. Besides, the Celts are a lost civilization from the past, they are rebels of old Britain, calling themselves the Celts as if they are some sort of cult. This "Brennus" may want to watch what he is doing.
- Qin Shi Huang

Because of threats developing from other civilizations, who seem to be regressing back to their old failed-Earth policies, I have directed Beijing to train more rifleman regiments. At about this time, we have re-discovered Scientific Method, and now we can begin to re-learn some of the technology we have lost in the last few decades of disaster.
- Qin Shi Huang

We have linked our cities to copper and our Neo-China has grown to one million people. With this progress, I have hired some of our finest artisans to craft a replica of the old American Statue of Liberty. We feel that such an icon will bring culture to our growing Neo-China.
- Qin Shi Huang

A Great Merchant has been trained in the city of Guangzhou. That city is beginning to shape up as an economic center for our part of the island, as it is on the border and serves as an excellent border stop for merchants. This Great Merchant will be used to create a Super Specialist, an adviser to the city who will continue to aid Guangzhou in its development. We also have re-discovered Physics, and have declined all requests for open borders or technology trading. We wish to remain to ourselves for the time being, and we certainly do not want to give our new secrets away. In nine more years, my exact replica of the old Statue of Liberty will be complete.
- Qin Shi Huang

The New Statue of Liberty has been finished in Neo-Beijing! There was a massive celebration with thousands of people to present the finished project, which was spot-on a replica of the original. Now our people are more motivated to continue this new beginning.
- Qin Shi Huang

Our island empire grows.

Beijing completes the New Statue of Liberty, a perfect replica of the old one.

Chapter 4: Politics As Usual

The Iranians (Persians) contacted us asking for a defensive pact, just like old times. We declined, as we do not want to get entangled in whatever wars they may wage. Around the same time, the Neo-Mongolians had the nerve to threaten us if we did not share our secrets with them! This has prompted me to begin construction of a small defensive military.
- Qin Shi Huang

Cai Lun, a Great Engineer, has finished his schooling in Beijing and will begin a tour of Neo-China to discover what is needed in the country for our grand achievements. We will keep him around for now. Around the time he finished his schooling, our Neo-China rediscovered Steam Power. Meanwhile, my small defense force is taking shape with Grenadiers and Rifleman regiments. I have ordered the construction of various Jewish Temples, as our people have neglected to adopt other faiths. Once they do, I will order the construction of other types of temples.
- Qin Shi Huang

I have decided to open Neo-China's borders to Neo-Korea. Korea is using this as a fresh start from the nuclear war that devastated their peninsula long ago. We appreciate the efforts of our friends from Asia, our old, and new, neighbors.
- Qin Shi Huang

My mother came to this island years ago, where she began to teach me engineering in our small home near the New Beijing Lagoon. Much has changed since I was a boy on this island. I am now old and our new nation has grown to be quite developed. I have heard rumors that other nations on the island may go to war, or are building large armies on this small island to attempt to oppress others. This worries me, and I want to help my country as much as possible. I will stay in Beijing and set up an academy there to teach other engineers in the future, even after I am gone. I hope that our beautiful Neo-China is not massacred by those who would resort to violence.
- Cai Lun, Great Engineer

Cultural divides and Cai Lun.

Chapter 5: War With Sweden (The Vikings)

Beijing suffered starvation. Too many people, too little food on this island. As this was happening, Sweden randomly declared war on Neo-China! Those barbarians, living up to their Viking heritage. We are now waging a completely defensive war, stocking up on Grenadiers and using Riflemen only when their regiments are vulnerable. They dropped a Grenadier unit into our borders and then pillaged some mines and farms. We retaliated by destroying their regiment. Time went on. The Vikings were not seen for some time. They then requested peace, and offered us gold! Those fools. The same year, we re-discovered the secrets of steel.
- Qin Shi Huang

The humiliated Ragnar of the Vikings (stupid AI).

Chapter 6: Development & Disaster

I have ordered the construction of a grand building in Beijing (Hermitage) to honor our Neo-China. Russia asked me to trade Biology secrets for Artillery secrets. I agreed, as he added more than a hundred gold to the deal. Cai Lun the Great Engineer has agreed to work for the city of Beijing permanently. Our cities are beginning to get crowded, and there is not enough food. Beijing is becoming disgusting. We must continue our scientific advances so that we can re-learn medicine and other infrastructural secrets.
- Qin Shi Huang

War with the Neo-Mexicans/Aztecs! Randomly, they declared war on us. We rejected giving them tribute or changing to their civics, and we rejected opening borders to them. We do not share a border with them, so it is likely to be a repeat of the Viking incident. I have faith in the defensive force of the Neo-Chinese state. I am turning out to be wrong. The Aztec cavalry is coming in with so much force, and burning everything in sight. Their cavalry came strong at both Beijing and Shanghai, but our troops continued to repel their advance. Eventually, we learned Assembly Line and upgraded many of our troops to infantry. They had already had much battle experience and were hardened soldiers. We repelled the initial Aztec attack, and waited within our borders for any next advance they might launch. In the meantime, we had a merchant named Cornelius Vanderbilt that had arrived to Beijing. He loved the Neo-Chinese culture so much that he offered to help us. "I will assist you with financial matters from here on, if you so wish." I agreed, of course. He originally wanted to make a journey to a nation at the other end of the island. But given the war and the fact that we do not need that much money at this point, I thought it wiser to keep him in Beijing, and he was more than willing.
- Qin Shi Huang

The Aztecs ravaged our land. We have been put so far behind at this point. The Arabs have already begun work on their space station to get off this planet. Our entire Neo-China is in ruins and many civilians have been killed amidst the warfare. We forged a white peace, but what nation will attempt to capture our resource-rich lands next? This is a dark time for Neo-China.
- Qin Shi Huang, 1856 AD

The Aztecs are coming!

After the massacre by the Aztec cavalry. Our defensive forces repelled their attack.

Chapter 7: Reconstruction

Reconstruction came fast and strong, but it also took much effort from the Neo-Chinese people. A Great Engineer came along, Leonardo da Vinci, to speed up our slow progress of constructing a factory in Beijing. Now we have begun to work on the Apollo Program so that we may soon begin constructing a space station to leave this planet for good. The Aztec War caused us to open our borders to almost every other nation on the island, as our isolationism seems to be the reason our fellow human was so eager to invade us. They were afraid of what was within our borders. Our relations with other nations have thus begun to improve a bit.
- Qin Shi Huang, 1883 AD

Reconstruction has finished, and our old roads have even been replaced with railroads. Even our population has grown almost back to what it was before the Aztec War. We have finished the Apollo Program. After Beijing constructs a Coal Plant, we will commence the construction of a massive amount of space station casings.
- Qin Shi Huang, 1909 AD

Imhotep, a Great Engineer, has helped speed our construction of a factory in Shanghai. Shanghai, a slow-growing city compared to Beijing and Guangzhou, will now be able to produce some side needs while those two powerhouses construct the main needs of our Neo-Chinese state. Our space station was underway now.
- Qin Shi Huang, 1929 AD

We have re-learned many of humanity's secrets.

The Reconstruction begins.

The Reconstruction ends.

Chapter 8: A Civilized Island

The island seems more civilized now. Perhaps that is because most nations have begun work on their space station. I made a risky decision to divert production in Beijing from our national space station to a new United Nations. My hope is that if we cannot complete our space station at least we can create political harmony on this godforsaken island. We will see if this decision is a good one or not.
- Qin Shi Huang, 1958 AD

The Republic of Neo-China now has five million people within its borders. The United Nations has been finished in Beijing. Now we are going to continue working on our space station as I attempt to become the Secretary-General of the United Nations. And indeed, I have! I obtained 132 votes, while 106 were required. I was facing Tokugawa, the wise and formidable opponent and ruler of the Neo-Japanese. This is great news indeed.
- Qin Shi Huang, 1980 AD

As my first attempt at changing the island and as my first duty as UN Secretary-General, I sent out a vote for Nuclear Non-Proliferation. And sure enough, the vote succeeded! I wondered what I would ask for next. Permanent peace on the island would be too hasty of a vote (diplomatic victory). I would have to make some friends and pull some strings before doing that sort of thing. Next I would attempt to pass a vote on Free Religion for the whole island. The vote succeeded! Now the whole island is tolerant of all religions. Next would be to attempt to establish a single currency for the whole island. All nations voted for it. After this, I was once again voted Secretary-General of the United Nations. I never thought my isolationist Neo-China would turn into a political leader. The third time around, Tokugawa won the seat.
- Qin Shi Huang, 1984-2012 AD

The New United Nations has been completed in Beijing.

Chapter 9: Neo-China's Golden Age

Neo-China has entered a Golden Age! Culture, production, economy, everything about our wonderful new nation has begun to reach international prestige. All of the island looks up to our achievements. This Golden Age will prove very beneficial, coming right after a loss in the elections for UN Secretary-General.
- Qin Shi Huang, 2012 AD

While in our Golden Age, the Japanese and the Egyptians have gone to war with one another. For once, a conflict that we are not involved in. Our Golden Age ends, and those countries are still at war. We are grateful for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that was signed years ago. After our Golden Age, we became the UN Secretary-General once again. There was not much left to propose at this point, so the job became more annoying than useful, as a unified island was seeming more and more unlikely (diplomatic victory).
- Qin Shi Huang, 2022 AD

Beijing has grown to be massive. It is still a dirty cesspool. Oh well. I am still pleased with the city. Its dirtiness gives it a nice character and it is still producing many great things for Neo-China. We have begun to work on The Internet, a network for the island. We have not seen Internet in ages. It will be interesting to bring it back to humanity on this small island.
- Qin Shi Huang, 2045 AD

Chapter 10: The War for the Island

A massive war has begun, and we are involved. We have spent so much time building our space station and other improvements that our military is bare bones. We must build it up! On our side is Mali and England. We are going to attempt to gain more allies, but for now the Vikings and the Russians have decided to go to war with us.
- Qin Shi Huang, 2048 AD

Narak the Great Prophet has begun to speak often in Beijing. So I made him a permanent member of Beijing's adviser committee. He will speak regularly on religious and social issues. The War for the Island has been uneventful up to now. I have deployed some infantry regiments through friendly terrain to sneak into Russian and Viking terrain and destroy some of the improvements around their cities. We will soon see if this works or not. It did not. Our troops were a minor annoyance to their more advanced armies. Back to defense. We lost the seat of the UN Secretary-General to Bismarck of the German Empire.
- Qin Shi Huang, 2054-2060 AD

We have invented The Internet in Beijing! Neo-Chinese scientists have re-discovered The Internet and have created a network throughout the island. Many new technologies were made available to us after this amazing discovery. My next plan is to continue work on my space station while the other nations battle each other. Still no sign of the Vikings or the Russians. I have a feeling this is the calm before the storm. Still, perhaps we can leave this island before they arrive. I have built many tanks and trained many different types of troops for defensive maneuvers, but I don't know if it will be enough. Soon after I decided this, the Vikings wanted peace, and even paid me 30 gold for it. Silly Vikings. This is what they did last time. War is still being waged everywhere on the island, and I am still technically at war with Neo-Russia.
- Qin Shi Huang, 2068-2071 AD

I have decided to launch a modern armor offensive against Moscow. We have moved through friendly territory and we are at the gates of Moscow, waiting for the perfect attack. Moscow is very far south of our empire, within the southeast quadrant of the island. The battle there was a failure. One of our armored regiments was destroyed, the other one barely survived. However, a Great General named Heinz Guderian originated from the battle and flew into Beijing from the outskirts of Moscow to conduct the war from our nation.
- Qin Shi Huang

Chapter 11: Mali Escapes from the Island

Our allies, Mali, have completed their space station and have thus escaped from the island, never to return to this hellhole.
- Qin Shi Huang, 2089 AD

* * * * * MISSION FAILED * * * * *

Even though I technically lost the game, I will continue playing. I still received the highest score, which is something. I made many mistakes. I won't list them because I think they are obvious (switching from working on my space station to the UN was a terrible idea).

Chapter 12: Beyond Mali

Mali has left. My allies. My brothers. Gone. And they didn't take me with them. Oh well. Next I will proclaim Universal Suffrage. My reasoning is so that I can buy military units quickly. Mali leaving and not bringing Neo-China along has hurt me deeply, so I will now attempt to conquer the island, unifying it under the Neo-Chinese flag. My grand plan is to stick with Universal Suffrage while I am obtaining large amounts of income, and then switch to a Police State.
- Qin Shi Huang, 2089 AD

THE END

Well, that is all. It is sort of practice for me. I was posting as Qin Shi Huang was writing in his journal, probably soaking in his immortality bath. :D I think my next story will include more writing (longer stories) and will have a clear story-telling narrative instead of journal entries from the leader. I am going to continue playing this game for now.

Great story! At first I thogught this game would be played on a fallout ravaged world map, but I really love this idea too. Keep writing!

You follow the four step plan to win the the game:
First:
:nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke:
Then:
:ar15::ar15::ar15::ar15::ar15::ar15::ar15::ar15:
Followed by:
:sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper::sniper:
And finally (if your playing next war):
:assimilate::assimilate::assimilate::assimilate: :borg::borg::borg:
We are the borg, prepare to be assimilated, resistance is futile!

Just kidding:lol:, nice story!!!
