Whats is considered a "Team" in the SDK.. as compared to a "Player"

I am adding new code to the game and sometimes don't know whether to add it to the CvTeam or CvPlayer. Is the CvTeam code for the Teams you put together in the Custom Game menu, Or is it just the Player's Colonies and Vassals all put together that makes up the team?

I'm not the best person to be answering this (and hopefully someone more appropriate will come along), but my understanding is that player only refers to things like the civ and leader and stuff like that, whereas anything like victory and techs and wonders is for Team. I think a good way to check would be with permanent alliances, and multiplayer for 2-on-2, or something. Whatever applies to the Team (victories, LOS, etc.) as opposed to each individual player should be coded as such.

EDIT: this gets a mention in many a tutorial relating to coding specifically for civ.
