The Immortal Challenge Lineup - Game #27

Welcome to the Immortal Challenge Lineup!

ICL Game #27 - Korea
Settings: Default + quick combat & quick movement
Map – Fractal
DLC - All DLC - map packs

Starting location:

Information & rules:

Spoiler :
All games in this series will be set to IMMORTAL difficulty. User civilizations, maps, and opponents will change each game, but the pace will always be set at standard and the starting era will always be ancient. We will try for a variety of starts, and not just having a crazy warmonger as your next door neighbor (although there will be that too). This isn't a competition so there will be no predefined victory conditions. New challenges in the series will be posted every other Wednesday.

Who can play?
Anybody can play. The more the merrier. Even if you normally don't play immortal games you are still welcome to try. The games can become great learning resources for the player trying to improve. Even if you don't finish the game, we are still interested to hear about your experience.

Do's and Don'ts
We are going to be using the honor system. Feel free to restart, reload, play the same game multiple times, but don't use the science overflow exploit. Also please don't edit the game in IGE. If you do chose to cheat, please don't share your results in the comments. Also, please use the spoiler tag if you post a picture, comment about neighboring civs, close by wonders, or locations of ancient ruins.

Also, please tell us about your Build Order, Social Policies, Tech Order, and what type of wonders you went after. I know a lot of this stuff seems pretty mundane to the experienced player, but the details are incredibly useful to people trying to learn.

Future Games in the Series
I want users to submit saves from turn 0. Preferably the person submitting the game has played enough turns to know the map is either difficult, fun, or unique in some enjoyable way. Write a short description as to why it is special and email the save to immortalchallengelineup@gmail.com

Important
If you submit a game for the challenge, you must have the DLC map packs disabled. Not everybody has them and they are honestly kind of useless. Having them disabled will allow more participants.

All results gets documented in a spreadsheet by Consentient. To help him with his work, please use this headline tXXX victory-type in your finishing post. Example: t210 DV

Here is my opening move:
Spoiler :

I will play more later.

Budweiser, I don't think you expected much of a response to your first move post, but I'm curious about the movement of the Warrior. Why did you move him like that?

c-
Spoiler :
After looking at the starting picture, I decided that the best settler spot was on the hill NW for a hill/river & also retain the stone. Therefore, the warrior needed to cross the river. So, warrior takes free move SW then uses last movement point to cross the river.

Why did the warrior need to cross the river?

To get to the other side.

But seriously
Spoiler :
Need is probably too strong of a word, however the movement choices were somewhat limited at his previous location, now he can travel a little faster through flat lands and reveal all tile within 3 of cap. I'm thinking Pyramids on this one now.

t51

Spoiler :

Don't know what I'll do... I will probably go and kill... but first I wanted to try if I can manage to swing some kind of 4 city tradition start.

Settled on river hill up northeast. Might have been better to settle one hill to the left but didn't want to waste another turn. Then I made two scouts before spamming settlers. Met some faith CS so build a quick shrine in the KSM-expo before worker. Got Sacred waters-pantheon to help with my rapid expansion.

Did not steal any workers so NC will be delayed a bit due to building workers instead of libraries. I'll probably go for Oracle for faster tradition finish while waiting. Indonesia is likely to dow me for forward setteling him so after NC I will probably build some defense.

t298 SV

Spoiler :

Fell into the Tradition-trap and just kept hittin next... Science Victory is not my thing. It's to boring so I keep falling into trance forgetting to du things properly.

Beautiful map! I wish I'd gone for domination instead!

Arite, since my attempt at Persia DCL ended up a failure as expected, let's have a whack at this

T112 point :

what the hell corea 2 science/specialist seems so strong, never played them, but when universities will be up science will skyroket i think.

Spoiler :
AI's seems pretty agressive this game, attila hates isabella isabelle hates gaja to the east and i'm friend with isabella and attila ... hope i'll keep some allies for RAs.

to the west everyone hates kamehameha and noone wants to be my friend :(

still the games start is pretty good and it'll probably be an easy science or diplo win.

through 178

Spoiler :

Wow, using all sorts of smoke and mirrors to grow, earn money and stay afloat in smiley faces. I've drained all food from the land around me, and I have caravans working round the clock.

Early wonders were gone Deity quickly and I was like wowzers, so I think I got Oracle, Pisa and maybe something else. Took faith from quarries as pantheon but realised soon enough that religion is a lost cause on this map, as literally everyone spams prophets like mad.

Expecting around 260-270 finish

I thought somehow that if I built the Pyramids it would result in wonderous growth around the cap. It probably would have if I had closed out tradition instead of finishing Liberty. Instead I just got mediocre growth and money troubles. I wont get a really good finish time.

Pyramids are only useful in a conquest game, free workers and buffed pillage-repair :D

Korea with a start location like that? This can't be real life. I roll horrific starts with them constantly

To get to the other side.
 :goodjob:

I want to do Domination, but not sure if it's going to be Liberty or Honor. Liberty definitely looks easier with extra settler, hammers, and workers building roads across all that terrain. And I want to be killing things from the get-go.

Sejong the Conqueror threw the world into the Dark Ages and won Domination Victory on t175. :p

T259 SV

Spoiler :
I wanted to practise my science abilities, and see if I could improve my Freedom game. But I was forced into wars too many times to get a really good time. Indonesia wouldn't make peace after my worker steals, and when Attila DoW'ed him I knew that I could have a chance to steal the capital by parking a unit nearby and waiting for Attila to bring it to 1HP for me. It worked and I got Jakarta, which probably added a bit of science, but the diplo hit was severe because I hadn't noticed that, for some reason, it was the only Indo city. So I wiped him out. Everyone hated me after that.

Attila intermittently DoW'ed again throughout the game but was no threat once I had a huge tech lead over him. Boudicca backstabbed and tried to swallow my lands but I crushed her and took her capital too, for some more added science. Polynesia helped me in this war, and wiped her out.

So I went 3 city NC, added one of my own, captured 2 capitals, and had decent BPT by the finish, but I feel that the wars slowed me down a fair bit. Next time I go SV I might make peace as soon as they want and see how different it its. It's just the warmonger in me that doesn't want to let myself be pushed around.

I'm playing out a nasty late game war.

One nuke.
Spoiler :

Two nukes.

Giant Death Robot attack!
