PH13: The Book and the Hammer

fake war is fine, but try to pillage him to death if you can.

Well, let's say that this wasn't a very animated turnset.... we simply didn't had economy to sustain a big war effort.

Besides killing the mega stack of Gandhi ( to add he deleted the missionary  ) ,our military actions resumed to small pillaging actions
Spoiler :

We got Lit and the corresponding wonder. Research set on Currency ( this one was hard ;) ):
Spoiler :

P.S our capitol is unhappy due to religious factors

Gandhi shows that we are a little bad techwise:
Spoiler :

Yup, the bastard has Feud.... this means we should expect lbows in his cities when we get there.

Finished my set with Currency ... as the income increased 15 coins, I decided to settle the pink spot
Spoiler :

Research set on CoL ... 4 turns with slight ( -1 ) deficit

Now on domestic issues for next player:

First, we have a GS in capitol... IMHO we should make a academy.
Spoiler :

Second, besides Gandhi that has Aesthetics and AC that has Currency, we have both on everyone. Two possible deals striked my eye:
Spoiler :

I urge to get atleast Calendar and Priesthood... most of our cities are in the happy cap or beyond and it would help a lot . Construction is a absolute necessity, because Gandhi has phants and Lbows.

This is somewhat bleaky... but it was worse 11 turns ago ;)

Except that you missed the pink dot

yeah ~ otherwise, good set of turns, but that missed spot kind of ruined the set.

should we use a previous autosave and refound correctly??

should we take peace or keep on with the phony war? I say take those trades, all of them, just to catch up and for temples and org religion.

next research? next goals?? CoL i think, no? Keep on improving the homefront with farms where possible, and chopping down that jungle where not. Do we have libraries built and scientists running?

i'll check the save ~

Ok, save with the corrected spot is in here. Sorry for the confusion ( this only means that I need some sleep ;) )

P.S Gandhi is still unavaliable for talk.

I want to play in 3 1/2 hours at most. If I could get some feedback before then I would appreciate it.

Taking a quick look at the save:
1) @ R_rolo - is there a reason I still have a work boat, 2 workers, and 2 axes to move? I find it very confusing to pick up SG when there are still units to move.

2) I plan to build the academy in Berlin since it has the Great Library.

3) Unless India shows up with a serious threat, I plan to keep a "pillage to death" war going.

4) Drop the science rate to 10% since it looks like we have random event to not get nailed.

5) Take the trades since Pholkhero wants them. I normally don't trade for a second tier tech.

6) Tech toward Metal Casting to improve production.

7) Rush the Parthenon with the Engineer in Berlin. It does pollute the pool some, but since will be the home of National Epic I prefer to maximize potential GPs.

Since I got no feedback I am delaying until tomorrow. I will play in ~20 hours, if possible. This depends on what happens with LK142.

@LK:
Points 1-3 look fine.

Probabely to 0%. No loss to rounding errors + more money to spend on emergency upgrades/REs/buy techs from the AIs.

I wouldn't take that deal rolo showed with sury - WFYABTA isn't something that pleasant.

6) Tech toward Metal Casting to improve production.
not sure about that. As we aren't fighting that actively and have the settlers and workers we need, we aren't that desperate for non-chemistry, non-guilds workshops.

I'm definitely against part in berlin - rushing parth is fine though. Those few GPPs in berlin won't be that much of a factor, I'd rather keep the scientist-pool clean. Rush the part somewhere in a border city to help the culture war.

I wasn't considering all the techs in the Sury deal .... just Prieshood ( for temples ) and Calendar.... we're capped at happiness and things will not go better with the Gandhi war ( remember that he has aestetics and SoZ is still open... ). We have all the horizontal growth we can sustain for a while... we need to get our cities bigger.

On the parthenon issue - I was thinking Berlin to tied with National Epic to take advantage of the GL. If we don't want parthenon in Berlin, then where is our GP farm? I would want to rush the Parthenon in the GP farm. I prefer as many GP as possible.

Berlin as GPFarm is ok but with the NE it'll already have enought artist pollution. I'd rather get one GP less but 2 GPs are scientists instead of artists...

i'm not sure why it matters where the Parthenon is placed, really since the effects are empire-wide, unless you're referring to the help in GP production just from the wonder itself?

In reality, we're going to be running scientists in almost every city, so the wonder will pollute *some* city. It might be best built in a production-center that will never run specialists; since it'll most likely by out-produced for GPPs, hopefully, we'll never see an Artist born.

I have never really run into WFYABTA all that much when playing which is why i usually am open to most trades. take what you can, esp. if someone else can make the trade. Bird in the hand, and all that.

@ph: WFYABTA is very much difficulty and AI - dependant. I agree we could make this trade but not sure, I usually play immortal these days :D

@prath - issue: The parth (as every wonder) creates GPP. These GPP are GA-GPP unfortunately. With the GA pollution from NE, we'd get quite a chance of generating GAs. If you've followed some of obsolete's games, you'll notice that he built wonders like SoZ and parth only in non-capital cities. GA-pollution is to avoid at any cost imo. The 5 GPP/turn are worth the tradeoff imo. The GPs needed to generate more GPs increase fast so those aren't that much of a matter - the GPs arrive a bit later (just some turns I guess) and we'll probabely generate 1 GP less.

1) He probably wasn't thinking again.

2) Yes

3) Yes

4) 0%

5) Yes with Liz, maybe rearrange with Sury to get just Calendar

6) Eeerrgh... but there might not be anything better, so CoL -> MC

7) NO! Parthenon multipliers affect all cities, not just the city it is built in.

He probably wasn't thinking again.
Very funny... :ar15: :run:

I was extremely sleepy yesterday and that showed... ( I only wanted to finish the game and get some sleep  )

About the points:

Yes to the academy

Yes to fake war... but take care: gandhi is no Monty , but has Lbows and Phants. Can be tricky as we can't sustain a big army with our current eco.

Better to drop it for 2 turns and continue at 20 - 30 %

Liz trade is essential ... Calendar ( and in a lesser extent priesthood ) too. Sury will not trade Calendar for Currency or Aestetics alone though :(

MC looks decent.... Drama would help as well, but is far less important.

Parth could go to the stone city after it finishes Moai.

Our scientist builds an academy in Berlin.
I send the axes into Indian lands to start pillaging.
I turn science down 10%, and it doesn't delay code of laws.
I send the engineer to Essen. This city can use the extra culture from Parthenon. If we don't want GP pollution, we don't want to stack Parthenon with Moai as that also gives GPP.

I ship currency and aesthetics to Sury for calendar, $40, monotheism, and priesthood.
I ship currency to Lizzy for construction and $20.

I swap Berlin to Buddhist temple to help with happiness. Health isn't an issue.
(IT) Gandhi completes Statue of Zeus.

620 AD
We don't want HR, but I still take advantage of the trade. I give currency to Louis for Monarchy and $50. It does get use closer to feudalism.

All this cash has us above $100, so I up science back to 20% with a minor loss.

640 AD
The Parthenon is rushed in Essen.
(IT) A scientist is born.

640 AD
I merged the scientist into Berlin. Any city will get +6 beakers from an academy at this time. Berlin gets 9 from settling before the academy and library multipliers. If the scientists stayed all game, the decision would have been tougher.

660 AD
(IT) Gandhi just founded Taoism. OUCH, we are behind in tech.

700 AD
(IT) We pick up Hinduism, but IMHO this religion is worthless to us.

720 AD
(IT) Metal Casting is complete. I grab mediation to give us the option to spread religion internally.

740 AD
Our first courts are earning their money. The science rate is now at 40% with minor loss.
(IT) I start research on music. It is only 4 turns, and it looks like no one has grabbed the artist. We could use the GA.

760 AD
(IT) I refuse Louis request to become confused.

800 AD
(IT) Gandhi finally kills an axe from our pillaging party.

820 AD
I give Lizzy code of laws, metal casting, and $5 to get feudalism.
(IT) Music is complete, and I start archery to let us build longbows.

840 AD
:wallbash: I forgot this game is bugged, and crashed the game trying to figure out why we didn't get the artist. I think Gandhi beat us to the punch.
(IT) I picked drama as a placeholder tech.

=======================

We should pick and Heroic Epic location. Cologne (Moai city) looks like a decent choice.
How soon until we revolt to Caste System, if at all?
Do we want to adopt Judaism? Gandhi will hate us, but we have 3 Jewish nations in the game.

And he doesn't already hate us?

A good solid set of turns (save?), I think we should end the war soon, especially since WW will start to hurt with Gandhi having the SoZ.

Agreed on the attaching thing.

Looks great, but I think the scientist born in your set would have been better builbing Philosophy. The next scientists should bulb Education, if not Paper. It would also be nice to get a look-see at everyone's research, if we want to see how far we can lib. I think Chemistry should be doable.

Trade (Philo?) for Machinery, then Engineering, and hope someone gets Gunpowder after we get Edu (AI loves the Guilds line). Maybe that would take us to Industrial Age too early- thoughts?
