Hi,

My next game will be with Gustavus.

What does Nobel Prize do? I think I understand the gifting Great Person part (although I don't think I'll be doing that). What about the 'when declaring Friendship' part? Is this for City states, other Civs, or both?

Thanks.

Gift GPs to CS, gain 90 influence.

Declare friendship with AI Civs, 10% GP generation. Effect stacks so you can have 50% more GP generation with 5 different civ friends.

Thanks. How do I declare friendship with another Civ? And, this isn't really going to help my Domination play style, is it :)

Cheers.

Is 50% the cap on Sweden's UA?

Also, I've read that the GP gifting works with Great Prophets with 1 spread use left, so you might consider using that. And if you prefer warfare, I'm sure you will have some extra GGs to spend.

Give it a try, if you like war I think you will enjoy having CS minions to fight for you. :)

Yeah, that's a good point. I always have more GGs than I know what to do with. Gifting them will be fun.

Cheers.

No cap. So if you're playing large or whatever with 10+ civ you can friend all of them and get 100%+ GP generation, lol.

And yes, Great Prophet with 1 spread left can be gifted. Great Djenne also give 5 spread use for Great Prophets when Industrial era is unlocked (spontaneous Great Prophet generation before Industrial era is still 4 spreads). Stacked with Messiah enhancer and spread your religion like mad and get 90 influence at the end for lolworthy effects.

Don't be too disheartened about waging war with Sweden. The key is to build up a bloc of solid BFFs; anyone outside that bloc can potentially be treated as an enemy, and denouncements in common or war against a common enemy can be an excellent way to begin or cement those friendships. Plus if you're waging war you've probably got a decent sized army, which helps stop your BFFs getting any funny ideas. Also war means extra generals/admirals for your city-state purposes.

Re the city-states, you'll be surprised how good gifting great people actually can be, and I recommend at least trying it. You can get a lot of extraneous great people if you focus a couple of cities on maxing specialists, and even if you're keeping a large percentage of the scientists/engineers for yourself there will still likely be a solid helping of other great people to feed to the citystates. Plenty of prophets, artists, merchants, generals and maybe admirals. In combination with the Patronage tree, you can get an excellent core of solid CS allies that are firmly entrenched in your camp. And when you've got the really high influence that GP gifting gives you, it's my experience that the AI tends to back off trying to fight for that CS and goes for easier targets instead (for the most part).

Last time I tried though, prophets could NOT be gifted if they'd spread religion even once - but that was prior to the most recent patch so I'm not entirely sure now.

^ Weird, I was able to gift it fine pre-patch. You have to enter the CS screen and gift the Prophet that way, not selecting the Prophet first to see if the gift option is available.

Sweden makes DOFs the same way you do for all other civs. Go to the Discuss tab and propose a DOF. The other civ can accept or reject as it sees fit. If they reject, you can't ask again for some number of turns (I haven't counted how many), but you can work quickly to curry favor with that civ (below market trades will get you a minor "traded recently" benefit, or you could denounce someone they hate), after which they may come to you proposing a DOF.

As Polycrates notes, as Sweden, you want to be warring to some extent, to keep generating GGs that you can gift to CSs, but you want to be friends with some civs as well to help you generate quicker GPs of other sorts for more CS gifts. Pick your enemies and your friends carefully.

Another thing about going Patronage is that you could get the policy that causes CSes to sometimes gift great people, which you can either regift to others or keep as repayment.

You might want to keep your GGs for the Hakkapeleetta UU. Gifting them works well too though.

As Zezima said, A must-have Social Policy for Sweden is Educated Elite under Patronage.

Rivers are already key, but for Sweden even more helpful for the gardens, since all great people have another function.

Faith is also useful since it lets you make great people later on, though great prophets can't be gifted.
