This is a team game. Each team consists of a vet and a newbie.
Teams are:

Gpcii (Alexander of Greece) / Nighthawk (Joao of Portugal)
Kokturk (HRE / Charlemagne) / Calanthian (Carthago / Hannibal) GMT +1
Methinkso (Arabia-Saladin) / Eclipse (Celtia / Brennus) GMT -5
Osbiath (UK-Churchill) and KiwiTT (USA-Roosevelt)

Every team is back-to-back (as the map wraps around in both directions).

The little letters are castles. Description:
"Thousands of years ago, each of the eight noble houses has sworn a holy oath to the Ancient Emperor of Calanthe,
that their house would protect one of the eight castles which guard the entrances
towards the ancient, bountifull, center of the Calanthian empire.
The castle guard of each castle has sworn to defend it's castle and to never attack. "

(you get one explorer unit which can defend the castle for the next hundreds of years)
(the castle can sustain itself, but remember building more cities around the castle can cripple you, as maintenance will get very high)
(houserule: castles may NOT be traded)

Map options:
On tech: trading & brokering off
still both players of each team do their teching together. (that is standard)

On always war: no
Barbs: yes
Goodie huts: no
Unrestricted leaders: no
ALL civs will have a coastal start

And the barb city in the center will be named King's Landing.

Of course you may change the city names which will be proposed when you found them.
But the ones who like them may even decide to name their units after these books: a knight named Jaime Lannister, or a spy named Varys certainly adds to the flavour (for those who read these books, or have seen the series)

Here are the maps of the continents.

Remember: every continent has coal, copper, horses, oil and iron. Everyone has copper near his starting position.
In the center region are all really good things: stone, marble, wine, silk etc..

You don't see these at the maps yet.

* Furthermore everybody has got a castle, with a castle guard, one special resource, and all have the same special buildings in the castles.
* And every civ has a coastal start.
* There is a land connection to the center which is guarded by a player from another team. And you have three options to get past him: negotiate, conquer the castle OR invade by sea.
* All will have a starting city, warrior, worker and castle guard.

I just made it up ;)

A game with let's say 3 or 4 teams of veteran/newbie combinations (so 6 to 8 players)

> within a team quite a lot of game tricks will be exchanged
> therefore I call it the Bootcamp..

I think it's a good idea !

I guess the tougher part would be to find vets that wants to team up with less-skilled players.

Obviously as a beginner I wouldn't mind teamin up with someone experienced ;)

Hmmm... I don't feel like a veteran... but I don't feel like a newbie, either...

I'd be interested. Newbie here, very, very little Civ IV MP experience but wanting to learn.

I'll sign in and play as a very very veteran guy. I'm 1-1 lifetime in PBEMs! :p

Luthor, I'd say you are an experienced veteran as well! at least as far as this game is concerned...

Well it looks like we have 5 people interested so far. 1 is a veteran (not counting Luthor yet since his last post on the thread was in '11). 3 newbies (Methinkso, Osbiath and I think I am as well).

I do not know what Kokturk is.

It might be good if we had a defining statement as to what makes one a newbie as opposed to a veteran. Then we would just have to trust that everyone is telling the truth.

But it would seem that we need to get a few more veterans involved.

I even have an interesting map to go with it..
if we play with 8 players..

PS. to all newbies: you MUST be committed to play a game which lasts a year..
