Brave New World: New Wonders

+1BPT per 10 scientist specialists in the world?

I mean YOU would be able to take scientist specialists from OTHER Civ's Universities, Public Schools, etc.

Offensive Science!

Here's my list of structures I'd love to see as wonders in BNW:

- The Shwedagon Pagoda
- The Panama Canal
- The Golden Gate Bridge (or Brooklyn Bridge, but I think the Civ games are kind of NYC-centric)
- Potala Palace
- The Guggenheim

Parthenon and Borodobur: absolutely no idea what the effects might be...
Broadway, Uffizi and Globe are probably great works related.
Motherland Calls is probably Ideology related.

maybe there will be one for each ideology? just a shot in the dark.

I'd like to see a Wonder that does for tundra and snow tiles what Petra did for deserts. Available perhaps at the Industrial Age. Is the Alaska Pipeline wonderful enough to be a Wonder? I know it was pretty technically advanced for when it was built and it was regarded as something of an achievement. Perhaps the Alaska Pipeline would require at least one oil resource adjacent to the city and increase all snow and tundra tiles by +2 hammers for the city.

Better choice for Industrial Age Wonder might be the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Wonder could give Petra-like gold per tundra tile, or (more useful possibly)+1 Food, +1 Production per tundra tile. Alaskan Pipeline would be more of an Information Age Wonder, and if tied to oil, not as useful for a tundra city, which almost always needs food resources to grow at all.

Hwangnyongsa Temple in Korea would be nice, though I suspect they won't add it. It was featured in Age of Empires II, and would have religious and aesthetic significance. The story on Wikipedia talks about how it was involved with convincing nobles to convert to Buddhism, so maybe some of BnW's culture war benefits could come with it.

So right now we have the Louvre and Uffizi museums. I'm guessing there will be other museums as well, or maybe Broadway/Hollywood will also be Great Work repositories? I'm wondering how the UI for all this stuff is going to work in a non-clustered way. I'm guessing regular museums in cities will also be able to hold works.

Anyone else think the Eiffel Tower/Redentor/Statue of Liberty/Neu Schwanstein may get some tourism bonuses? They all scream "cultural offense" and maybe could add more tourism per turn?

I think its impossible to predict what they will have in there. I mean, they included Potosi as a natural wonder, and that place is both insanely obscure to non-South Americans and really not that amazing a place to visit.

Apologies for the mild off topic, but this attracted my attention and I wanted to make a small comment.

As far as I can tell based on my knowledge, Potosi is the only natural wonder that would justify its presence in a realistic game. It genuinely is (was) a mountain made out of silver and it had an immense impact on the course of history. Its discovery was immensely beneficial to the Spanish, which is also very nice as it fits with their in game ability.

If you want to know more about it and its impact, you can read 1493, a non-fiction book by Charles C. Man.

The other natural wonders are just touristic destinations that haven't really done anything for their owners.

(I do personally not want a particularly more realistic game. I'm just making conversation ...)

Here's a guess at what I think the known wonders will do:

Parthenon: will probably give you greater cultural exportation pressure on trade routes early on. Classical Era

Borobudur: will probably give greater religious pressure on trade routes, and will make extra Archeological Sites later. Medieval Era

Broadway: Will have multiple Great Work of Literature slots. Modern Era

Globe: Will have a Great Work of Literature slot and a free Great Writer. Renaissance

Motherland Calls: either greater Ideology effective pressure or greater resistance to Ideology pressure. Industrial Era

Uffizi: probably will have a Great Work of Art slot and multiplies culture in the city. Renaissance

Potosi was definitely significant in history. A couple others were fairly significant as well. The Rock of Gibraltar allowed for control of the strait of Gibraltar being a nearly invincible natural fortress to attack and allowing for control of Mediterranean trade.

The Barringer crater has also been used for research purposes and so has old faithful

I have to say, so far I find the new wonders a bit disappointing. Four out of eight are most likely cultural, one is probably religious and another one seems to have something to do with ideology. That leaves two wonders that we don't know yet, and I hope they will do something to improve trade. I also hoped that a second expansion would bring a espionage related wonder and maybe one that helps with city states.
There is some hope though that old wonders might get new effects. the Colossus was never top tier, but now that coasts and rivers don't give any gold it might be downright useless and won't get anybody to suddenly work coast tiles. I predict that it will now increase the number of available naval trade routes. If we don't get another wonder that increases land trade routes Petra would fit the bill, but it's already situationally OP. Adding another effect would make it ridiculously powerful and replacing the old effect with added trade routes would lead to a lot of rage for people who love it. Maybe if they ditch the free Theater and the culture bonus after researching Archeology one additional land trade route would be reasonable.

I think a trade "wonder" would be best handled by a world congress since that and monetary policies are the primary functions. I would much rather see a proposal for free trade than some nonsense like ending wars.

I'd like to see another modern wonder. Maybe the Burj Khalifa or the Petronas Towers. Or the Golden Gate Bridge.
