Hello,

Here is my free-software Colonization clone. It uses (but does not contain) the original Colonization graphics files.

How to download & install (on modern Debian-like systems):

I tested on Debian sid(unstable) and Ubuntu 14.04;
For C++ programmers: Windows version is possible with minimal (hopefully) modifications (src/osdep.h)

It's in early version of 0.15 and I have some other things to attend so it will probably stay that way (for some time at least). I may fix the most irritating bugs if you report them in this thread (with enough information to reproduce).

Anyway you can:
* move ships and units
* build colony
* improve terrain: roads, fields, clearing forest
* produce items in colonies
* construct new buildings (but not ships, artillery)
* equip pioneers, soldiers
* edit map

Missing:
* europe
* specialists
* ship construction
* indians, foreign powers, AI
* map size is 15x12 :)
* fog of war
* combat

That's it. Have fun ;)

edit: updated links

Hello, any progress on this? your links dont seem to be active any longer, but i would love to see a colonization clone with the art style of the original

No progress but links are active again :)

ok Great, to answer your question from the other thread, I am looking to make adjustments to Colonization and getting into the game files to see what can be changes.

Best case scenario, I would love to create a clone that has similar graphics and gameplay, but a few more options (such as continued play after independence). I have explored freecol some, but i really like the style of the original.

Since you are on Mac, if you have some programming knowledge you could try to run cc94 on OSX and work from there. PM me if you are interested.

FreeCol is horribly slow, to the point of being unplayable even on modern hardware.

Extremely cute. Sadly another project that is abandoned. Understandable, since it's a big undertaking.
Wow.. yeah it's a shame he didn't continue with this as judging by his final screenshots it looks like he got pretty far! I'll chuck him a PM and see if it lures him back!
