Rise of the Shades

Chapter I- Genesis

It was dark and cold. But this day there was a glimmer of hope. Two days ago Morgoth found a flower when he was hunting. The Sidar were full of hope. More flowers, more things of summer appeared every day. Sandalphon knew what had happened. He gathered the loyal Shades to him. “My children and friends, The omens are clear. The god of winter, king of an age, is dead. We must establish ourselves, we must return to the surface.”

A week later all the possessions of the tribe had been gathered. They moved out of the caves they had lived in for three hundred years, to a new place. The land they came to was beautiful. There were forests and flowers and life abundant. But then I spoke. I, Lamorat of the Sidar, told them in blunt words, “This land, though beautiful and kind is not our home. We must find a land where we can thrive. Morgoth has gone south, and there has found mighty rocks to build great halls. We must go south.”

And the Sidar did this. They founded a city by the rocks, which the dubbed ‘Mondar’. The city was named Celo, or ‘city of life’. And that is where our story begins.

Lamorat was intelligent, even by Sidar standards. Before the fall of Bhall and beginning of Mulcarn’s reign he had been an illusionist. But when the fall came Sandalphon sought him out and offered him immortality. But the ice continued to rise and the Sidar hid in the caves for three hundred years. Nothing was left of his old life. So when Celo’s founding was done, he dedicated his life to be a scholar.

Morgoth was the fleetest and lightest of the shades. He used to be an assassin in the service of Faeryl Viconia. He was inducted into the Sidar’s number at the same time as Lamorat. He became a scout, using his speed to his advantage.

And then there was Sandalphon. He was the first of the Sidar. He was their leader, and always had been. Thus he took up the burden of leading the Shades to a new glory.

Snadalphon and Morgoth

It was that very night that Sandalphon had a vision. Arwan wished for them to rid the world of the ones who avoided his grasp. That very morning Sandalphon announced that he would use whatever means he could to destroy the undead.

The next day reports came of a barrow enchanted by a necromancer.Snadalphon swore he would destroy the fell magic before the year was out.

But I was not taken up by this fervor. I knew, though Sandalphon would not believe it, that Arwan had little interest in us. I doubted it was him. But I coontinued my studies on ancient mysticism, and soon discovered it.

Then Sandalphon had another dream. Arwan anointed him an angel, and the his word was divine. The public believed him, but I knew it was a lie.The fervor created a group of shades willing to work for Snadalphon. Thus I was tasked on mastering the art of growing food.

Morgoth had many adventures in the wilderness. He encountered many wolf packs, and slew them all. Thus in an elaborate ceremony I watched him dubbed Wolfbane.

But that was not all Morgoth Wolfbane did.He made contact with the others who resurfaced from the winter. There was an order of crusaders whom worshipped Junil, the Dwarves of the Underhome, and the savage wolf men. Sandalphon and I agreed on this. We should leave them alone, sticking to our own pursuits. And this we did.

Morgoth's Tale

Morgoth Wolfbane was near the barrow again. he idliked it. He knew what Sandalphon had said about it. He wasnted to go and destroy it. He moved alone, his comapnion still looking at animals. But then he stopped. he saw another undead. It was almost a mile from the barrow! how could this be?

I had just finished his research for the day. Upon discovering the secrets of Agriculture he was named head sage. I was happy with this. I needed to find a way to work the mondar.

More than 30 miles away sat the tired men and woman. Settlers they were, accompanied by soldiers. Sandalphon had decreed that a new city was to be built. The new cit's name was Vetus. It was near to the Bannor lands. Capria had asked us to open our borderrs. Sandalphon sent the woman away. He knew that they wanted his people's knowledge. He must stop them.

Sandalphon found a city location which could flourish and prevent the leechful Bannor from spreading. Vetus it would be called, or 'city of the boulder. For the Bannor could not move such a boulder. They were trapped.

Several months had passed since Vetus had been founded, the skkeltons released, and agriculutre mastered. Once again, Morgoth was standing in a clearing. He heard a rustle in the trees. He crouched, ready to attack. But from the bushes stepped a human.

The human's name was Beedle. He servved Cassiel, an ex archangel of Daghda. He explained of Cassiels mission to free Erebus from the gods, and attempted to convert Morgoth Wolfbane to this school of thought. Morgoth sent him away with harsh words. He would show him Arwan's face if he did not leave.

Another race of dwarves were found, and these more amiable than the last. Uneventful moths passed, with the odd orc attack, or spotting of an undead. A thrid city was founded, Zarla, or 'cotton city'. With that city's fouding, a new era dawned upon the Sidar, one of darkness.
