Civ2 TOT and ActiveMark

I have been playing CivII ToT for quite a while.
I have Win7 32 bit.

I just upgraded my hard drive and now I get this screen with something
about ActiveMARK technology. It wants me to pay for the game again and
it's giving me a 59 minute trial period.

However, if I try to do anything, it says I need an internet connection (which
I have and it works fine) and it fails.

How do I get the program working again?

Well, no answer.

So I dug in my boxes and found my TOT install CD. Re-installed,
applied patches, and I am up and running.

Too bad I have not had as much luck with Age of Empires from the CD.
It just dies on Win7 64. And no great forums, like this one, that I can find.
