This thread will discuss design issues of the Thay civilization
Spoiler History :
The Kingdom of Thay appeared relatively late in Age of Stone. Its founder, King Ononder, united a number of independent principalities in central Dragonia to oppose the growing influence of Furn to the south and the depredations of the orcish savages from the north. The mining and commerce of metal, especially copper and iron, led to an enrichment of the Thayans and to the expansion of their influence in Dragonia. Ononder' efforts were successful but eventually Thay fell victim to orcish invasions.
This all changed when Warnin came to power in 518 AR. In a stunning act of intrigue and treachery, Warnin engineered the assassination of virtually all of the Thayan leaders and kings, sending Thay's new masters into chaos and disarray. Once his power had been thus consolidated, Warnin was able to reorganize the army into groups of specialists (rather than the dominant tradition of having each warrior practice with all weapons). He then aimed at getting rid of Thay once and for all. This was within Warnin's lifetime, as King Soropon of Furn was not ready to defend his cities. Before King Warnin was able to consolidate his control of Thay, he was forced to withdraw, and the remainder of the Furnish Legions moved in to recapture the Furn capitol.
In 527 AR, a Paladornian battalion attacked a group of Nerullic clerics from Thay. Thus began the intermittent Conflict of Faith. This war continued unit 766 AR, but nither side gained or lost much ground.
In 788 AR, Thay found itself with war against Furn again, as Furn launched an attack against the city of Narud. Thus began the decline of the Thayan kingdom, as Furn progressivly defeated each Thayan city until only the capitol, Ketyil, was left.
In 987 AR, armies of Thay marched to the mountains of the Mithrilcraft Dwarves with the goal of taking the mithril ore for themselves. It was discovered at this time however, that a civiliztion that bases its economy on trade of mithril is also capable of basing many of its military advances on mithril as well. When encountering mithril-armored Dwarves, the armies of Thay broke like the waters of the surf against rocks of the shore.
