Yelü Chucai's surprising ascent

Thanks for the turnset FiveRings.

I'm thinking that we're just about due for that big civic swap and a draft-like-mad session. Pigswill might be ready to initiate the war near the end of his turnset. At 200:gold: to upgrade a 0XP Catapult - I wouldn't bother with them.

I wouldn't mind it if Peter 'called it a day' with Asoka, as he's becoming a bit too successful in that conflict.

We could convert several Farms to Workshops around Uzbek while it's slogging away at The Statue of Liberty (?).

'Steam Power' is fine by me, as it looks like it might be of trade value still by the time we get there.

(btw - it's Wang Kon who's 'Annoyed', Qin Shi Huang is 'Friendly')

Yes, it is WK, indeed, and I have edited the text within one minute upon posting it. It would be verydisturbing if you all read the noncorrected text while I have the latest edited one on my screen...

Got it.

:hammer: time.

PPP Swop to Rep, Nat, Slavery, Merc and Theo now.

Start drafting, we have seriously high happy caps.

Declare in 2 turns after finishing upgrades.

Whip cannon, draft rifles.

Kill kill kill :mwaha:

At the moment we're running the basic civic which is earning us nothing, even a citizen with rep is 3 beakers.

But don't we get all our foreign trade income - and quite a chunk - disappear?

didn't check the last save of yours, but there is couple things to consider

1) will you war your neighbors basically losing trade routes with AI's behind them?
2) do you have vassals? TR's with vassals are not canceled by merc (this one not sure if it works the same in Warlords as in BtS)
3) is the overall income of TR's bigger then the effect of free specialists especially if you consider you lose 1 base commerce for city (in the preFM, preCorps - are they even in warlords?, without GLH era you lose 2C per city usually) and the free spec can offer 6 bpt if you run rep (do you run rep?)?

I would love if the UI would help the player to make more informed decisions on such things :-(

Its also worth considering that while you lose TRs with AIs all the AIs lose their trade routes with you and at least you get rep specs to compensate.

Hstory is stuff that happened in the past.

Played up to 1575ad (11 turns). Strange set, not dull but not sure how well it went.

1520. Swop to Rep, Nat, Merc, Slavery, Theo. Start drafting rifles. Running cash to upgrade stuff.

1540. Dow WK.

1545. Capture Pusan. Swop to Rep, Vass, Merc, Slavery, FR. Stop drafting, start whipping cannon, restart research.

1560. Lose Ning-Hsai.

1565. Recapture Ning-hsai.
Get GG up north, heading south.
Cyrus builds Kremlin.
We pop second GE.
Lose Vandal.

1570. Recapture Vandal.
GE rushes SoL.

1575. Build SoL.
Capture Inchon.

Steam power next turn.

Qin picked up democracy early, didn't want to trade steel away so no dogpile on Asoka. Peter is doing fine all by himself.

Current army: 24 cav, 16 rifles, 22 cannon.

edit: workers converted Uzbek's farms to workshops to facilitate SoL. Workers then ran away north, makework bulding roads until safe to head south again. May be worth refarming Uzbek to run even more specs.

Good job. What to do with the GE... I am inclined to save him for the Pentagon. I guess consolidating all the troops and taking as many of WK's cities as possible is the order of the day from here on out, hopefully destroying him. I also think the time to switch into emancipation draws ever closer...

We haven't built IW iirc so that's worth doing. WK has a couple of island cities which will be a pain, I'd be tempted to roll him up from the east until he's willing to capitulate. I agree on emancipation though other sources of misery (drafting and whipping) will resolve spontaneously.

Hi team ... CivFanatics has been unreachable for me in the last few days / week, and I'm currently away from my 'Civ-puter' and haven't had a chance to see the game first hand, but on the basis of pigswill's report, it's goin' good. :)

Thanks for the turnset pigswill.

I'm tempted by;

Peter could quite well cap' Asoka, which will prospectively make a monster of a different nature to the one we had 60-ish turns ago. Steel is known by at least two other AIs. 'Free Market' could work well while we're thinking of switching civics. The extra :gold: is always nice. We could get Qin to DoW on Wang and get his 950:gold: with Steel ... lopsided his way, but a thought nonetheless.

The forces are quite understandably 'a bit all over the shop'. I note the nine Cannon stack sitting in Karakorum. I'm interested to get the team's thoughts on how we should plan our next attacks.

I've got no preference for the Great Engineer. Instant 'Ironworks' in Beshbalik is not something I'd typically consider, but I think it's got real merit here. Waiting for The Pentagon or merging into Karakorum, Beshbalik, or Cimmerian are OK by me.

I'd consider merging the Great General into Cimmerian with its Heroic Epic, so that non-Horseback land units from there get 5XP 'out of the gate'.

I like the Peter deal. Don't like the Qin deal as we can stomp WK by ourselves. I'm ok with FM instead of Merc if that's a majority decision. GE IW Beshbalik yes. GG Cimmerian also yes.

Warwise move Kara's cannon to join the Inchon stack (-garrison) to take Nampo.

Maybe move some of the cavalry to a more central location to respond to a (theoretical?) counter attack.

Typed a PPP. Token expired. Civics switch to Police state, emancipation and nationhood. move all military to to SoD and draft/whip to have 2-3 rifles in each city for defense. Take cities from East to West.

Sorry, my PPP was more detailed but token expired... I thought I refreshed...

I'm OK with GrEng pushing IW and GrGen joining. I'm also OK with the FM switch and the deal with Peter. I think it would be worth postponing the suggested deal with China till we get the continental part of WK. That might also involve a subtle change in the way war is conducted: focusing on WK's cities in his northern territories and getting to his border with China ASAP.

If we're looking to vassalise Korea then we may as well leave him with the cities bordering Cyrus and Qin.
