1660 AD In the ensuing confusion of revolution in Rome, Marcus Portius Cato (the Elder) seizes power and establishes a Fundamentalist government; a generation of Romans acquiesce, and Cato sets income taxes at 80% so as to generate 1000 in gold every ten years. Embassies report that the Carthaginians and Zulus have signed a secret alliance against Rome. 1670 AD
