In TAC we already have special military units:
Native Mercenaries (DLL-Diplo-Event Native Mercenaries)
Hessian Mercenaries (DLL-Diplo-Event European Wars)
I would like to introduce 3 more:
(Units that cannot be bought, but only available through special events.)
These are really units, not professions.
Of course, these guys could also not take any professions.
1. Conquistadors (Screenshot)
These guys are specialist in fighting Natives. (50% bonus)
Otherwise they are pretty much the same as Milita.
(Fighting with Swords.)
When at war with a Native Civ, there are chances, that an (dll-diplo-)event with your king (or your second religious parent) is triggered.
He will explain, that many have heard about the cruel savages (and of course of their riches) and will fight with you, if you are willing to pay them.
If you pay, one of them will appear in your capitol city.
AI would buy them with this event also.
2. Bukaneers (Screenhot)
These guys are very good at attacking cities.
But, they cannot be put into a stack and also,
when they conquer a city, there are chances that they destroy some buildings.
Otherwise they are pretty much the same as Milita.
(Fighting with Swords.)
When sinking a pirate ship, there are small chances, that the crew of that ship will surrender to you.
(If there is still a cargo slot on your ship available.)
You will get an (dll-diplo-)event with the king telling you, that he heard about you having captured some pirates alive.
He will also tell you, that he does not want you to let them live, because his image in Europe would suffer.
Also, if you kill them, there would be some bounty for them from the trading guilds.
Choices:
Keep the Bukaneers -> Attitude of King will get a little worse and Bukaneer placed in ship.
Kill the Bukanees -> Get a small amount of money.
A random will decide for AI what they will do.
Alternatively they could become available in Port Royal from time to time.
(Once we implement "Port Royal".)
3. Rangers (Screenshot)
Rangers are people from the new world, that really know the terrain.
They have abilities of a scout (line of sight and being able to move on peaks) but with movement speed of normal infantery.
They get huge bonus, when fighting in woods.
Also they are invisible when standing in wood terrains for other units except other rangers, scouts or native mercenaries unless they are moving on the same field.
Thus they can be used for ambushes.
Otherwise they are weaker than regulars.
(They have guns, but not the same level of training.)
When at War with another European or with your own King and you have 50 guns and 10 gunpowder in one of your cities, which is bigger than 10 citizens, there are chances for an Event that will create Rangers in that city, because the people of the colonies will want to defend themselves.
(It will be a normal dll-event, no diplpmacy event.
You will be asked by a popup if you want to give them the guns and gunpowder.
AI will always accept.)
General Comment
I simply feel, that having some more special units will bring a little more fun and diversity to the game.
Just like the other special units they will be rare, because they cannot be bought or trained.
As I said, they are just available by special events.
