Stopping a Deity science AI?

So I've been trying to get my first Deity win, and I came pretty close last night. I was playing as the Inca on a tiny map, 6 civs, pangaea. I was trying to shoot for a 2-city science victory (no civ had more than 4 cities), but I ran into a problem: a runaway Korea. Even though I was third in tech when I lost, Korea was 15 techs ahead of me by mid-game and 22 when they won. The unit spam the AI gets on Deity, along with the runaway civ's tech advantage, makes invading them virtually impossible, and they usually win right before I get access to nukes.

So the question is, is there anything you can do to stop a runaway science AI on Deity?

AI sucks at science wins tbh. I've won 3 cities setups easily at Deity.

Just get more cities and you will be fine. If you are below 1000 science on 2 cities, you should get more. The science is all that matters. AI sucks at beelining the proper techs so you should always win if you do it right.

The AI does USUALLY suck at science, but I'm talking about stoping a runaway, not just the science leader. Keep in mind I beelined science techs, had observatories in both of my cities, and produced science buildings as soon as they were available...but I lost to Korea by TWENTY TWO techs.

So the question is how to stop THAT.

2 cities. Your answer is in that really. Either kill him our outscience him. If you had below 1000 science in your two cities, there is your answer. I've rarely seen an deity AI beat 1000 science.

Runaways usually go for domination, so they fail at science. I still think you are doing something wrong. If you reveal your turn timer etc. it would probably help.

Yeah, I think I had 800 science. Problem is, I was on a tiny map with 6 civs (including me), and the place where I was gonna settle my third city got swiped by Polynesia right before I settled there. I ultimately took his city, but by that time there was only ~20 turns left in the game and it gave me like 10 science.

So was there anything else I could have done?

Also, random side question: is going ICS (or really wide) possible on Deity? I want to try going wide with the Maya, my best civ, but I'm afriad the AI unit spam will wipe out half my cities.

Just get composite bowmen. If you got 4+ of them, they will crush any AI rush. (if you don't settle on hill, get walls asap)

I agree that a two cities science win on deity (and with Korea or Babs opposing you) is almost impossible.

The Incas are tailor made for going tall very fast and generate a lot of science and specialists in that regard. Terraces surrounded by mountains are essentially mini-Hanging Garden wonders - with production as well. But on deity you need at least 4 of these super cities imo, to match up with the leading AI civs. If you don't have room, I'd suggest researching Archery first, build/buy archers and DOW the civ next door and grab his land/capitol. The slingers aren't up for the task - I've tried

You probably won't get the GL or any early wonders anyway on deity, so you might as well start out warmongering a bit.

Lets remember that the science scales with the size of the map. 800 for tiny is not bad IMO.

With two cities you should have raced in culture right? Did you finish freedom and rationalism? The complete freedom tree combined with a bunch of academia + observatory + rationalism = bonus of + 30 science per academy after modifications (usually > 4 for a science game).
