I Wanna See Your CiV.1 Saved Games!

... so, is there any way you can tell that this Egyptians game is "real"?

Oh, there's also the PowerGraph (when you retire) that shows what happened.

i am working on
HUGE LANDMASS
Desert Planet MAP (*.sve & *.map start files)
for Civ.1.DOS game...
(see preview in attachment) :)

it looks already good
and makes even sense in gameplay :D
but i just have to work
(sure for hours additional)
some more detailed landscape areas
to place the "special fields" (oasis, gems, deers, gold)
a little more attractive
to possible city spots -
and special 'landscape effects' ...
:D

i plan
players can select between 6 tribes
at chieftain level (for fungames and tests)
and
one empereor level game with caesar of the romans.

Dude. Was that randomly generated?

just found out

that "shift-56"
in 474.01 civ.exe version
simply means to
press
" % "
and after this
" ^ "
and after this
" t "
and once again
" t"

(it depends on you keyboards language settings in windows
where " % " and " ^ " are located)

to see the whole map in the game without playing it first
to see ALL fields (huts, specials...)
and how (fine) the map looks like
makes landscape-designing with excel map editor much easier. :)

Code:
F 1 Your enemies' military plans
        (A-Attack, D-Defend, S-Settle, N-Naval).
        It will even suggest some plans for you sometimes.
F 2     ???
F 3 The Games Graphics (ALL actual screens!!!)
F 4 	??? Opponent Screens (be careful!)
F 5 	??? Opponent Screens (be careful!)
F 6 	??? Opponent Screens (be careful!)
F 7 Civilization breakdown showing government type,
        diplomatic status, population, treasury, tax rate,
        # of mil units, # of cities, # of settlers,
        amount of land (units unknown), and technology.
F 8 	Civilization PowerGraph + Replay.
        Even if you don't want to cheat this is handy.
        It can show you how well you're doing.
F 9 shows numbers representing the attack points,
        defense points and 3 of the cities
        the computer uses to calculate battle,
        on each continent (along with giving
        the size of each continent in land squares).

F10 	Shows complete world map
WARNiNG:
The F2 F4 F5 F6 Function keys
sometimes do (just) their normal functions,
but they mess up the display a lot of the time.
or cause the system to halt - you even
can't go back to windows anymore with ALT + TAB :sad:

additional info:
F7 - will show you the development profile of each civilization,
showing you all their advances
and allowing you to see if they have
a vendetta against you.

Does this imply that you have found the method in which the game encodes the location of these fields?

Some comments on the world you created:

The game its self does not allow cities to be build the in most
northern and southern two rows. The game is not programmed to deal with
cities that have area that it controls that hangs over the edge of the
playing area.

If you notice worlds created by the game never have land in columns 78, 79
(the east most two) and also columns 0, 1, 2 (the west most three). You can
build in columns 78, 79, 0, 1 but you get funny results

note: The stripe denotes columns 79 and 0

the only method is to see first where these specials are located in the map you will work with -
these locations are fix.

you have to build what you want 'around' them.
you can change the kind of speciality
by simply changing the terrain

mountain = gold
hills = coal
swamp = oil
desert = oasis
tundra = deers
plains = deers
wood = deers
jungle = gems
arctic = seals
ocean = fish

again:
the location of a speciality is fix
(some kind of 'arabesc' matrix as you can see while gaming),
not the kind of speciality itself.

it's just some kind of slight graphic error
(you see edges you won't see elsewhere
with railroad for example it looks like the track has a small breakpoint
but it works, it's o.k..)

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, I am writing about the placement of cities. Please look at the zip file in my last post on this. The player cannot tell where the zero longitude is easily. The cities I built on the island are on the divide look at them with city view. The following image is an example of a city on column 79 (city view).

Also without a ocean seam the auto go maybe problematic near the zero longitude.

i think
i can (now) -
a big THANKYOU for your hint! :)

while working with "shift-56" (see whole map of a new game)
or
look at old games maps
i could see that there is a line thru the ocean from "north ot south" on every map -
i mean,
you can't see a line
but you can see that there is always just ocean vertical from north to south pole
and so this must be "it".

more easy to recognize
when opening the sve/map in the excel editor:
you SEE how the map is planned -
and there is always ocean in the "west"
and "east" on every civ game generated map.

so i did take this hint of yours
(oceanline lefthandside and righthandside)
now
for making maps.

my first large landmass map
will just have at maximum 15-20% ocean
around that giant continent... :)

i just have to do a testgame before 'release' here
to forum...
(this map took me ~6 hours to plan and 'draw'...) ... :sad:

EDiT:
it's ready -
please look into

for some reason
ALL '*.sav' files in forum
are REMOVED ( ... by forum -soft or -administration ... ).

very discouraging. :sad:
