"Shadow" schedule

I don't understand one thing: are Golems removed from the game?
If yes, what will be Luchuirp special abilities?
About Orc,Elf,Dwarf Slaying i hope those promotions will be available through events or to some heroes.
BTW as others i'm less outraged than expected ;) .

my concerns and ideas :

-is "heavy infantry" or "armored infantery" not better to replace macemen instead of "champion" ? especially as there are no more pikemen ...
-crossbow-mens could be armored, archers couldn't. Few R&D was put on man-size crossbow (500years? save in china) compared to bows (>3000years)... that's why they were less efficient in RL, the X-bow R&D turned toward arquebuse : easy using, with even worse accuracy and worse loading time. but in a world without gunpowder you can imagin crossbows improved, with auto-loaders, bolt-magasin ...(especially if you add new materials such as mithril) in the same way that bows became long bow then compound-bow to compensate the lost strength compared to crossbows... (ex Cho-Ko-Nu in china used in battle until 1895... way later than longbow : repeatble X-bow, less powerful but 10 bolts in 15sec !! with mithril it would be as powerful as RL X-bow and quicker than longbow !!) and X-bows still easier to master compared to bows...

-as tier 4 units were limited to 3 per civ, I'm kinda sad with losing 3 options : shadow (limited ot undercouncil), shieldwall and flurry.
(for flurry I loved to have in the defense tree 1 unit that can attack... same as shield wall being 1 unit that can defend on the attack tree as the best defender it was strange, but a defending melee unit would still be nice) is blizt reachable through the drill promo line or only throught the combat promo line ?

(I liked the idea of needing to chose where you devellop your army... with possibility of being strong whateverbranch you choose. with those change I fear we will go back to the vanilla system : attack units, defense units, mounted units, siege units. and in order to be performant, you would need to have all branchs... or at least 1 attack + defense. I fear a lack of specialisation.)

-I dread the lost of specialising workshops for the luirchips
- I'd rather disable the gunpowered units.. (maybe with crossbow replace longbow for dwarvs, arquebuse replace crossbow for dwarves, cannon replace heavy catapult for dwarves)

all other changes are for good !!!
-those wonders : ok,
-promos : ok
-tech : ok
-civics : I'm waiting to see how it is changed

And also the golem which was the flavor unit of the shield wall (arcane golem).

If the race slaying promotions are removed from the game I guess no unit will have access to them (if they are taken out of the XML). But it would be interesting to grant a bonus like that through an event, maybe if the specific race commits some mean action (like declaring war in spite of a good diplomatic relationship) or the like.

I agree that canons and aqurbrussiers need to be dwarf only. I hate having them in a fantasy mod. At least it actually fits in with the dwarf flavour.

Also, I am fairly outraged about the patriach, and extremely outraged about the lurchip losing part of their ability to speciallise their golems. ;)

If anything, I think you haven't cut enough yet. I agree with all the removals, and I think there's plenty more that could be removed. I'm seeing this from a multiplayer perspective again: the more complex a game, the more difficult to balance it becomes. Keeping only those things that really work and that are quintessentially FFH could be the last and most important stage of your design process.

Can't wait for Shadow :)

As stated before, the race slaying promotion should be an event i like the flavor it give to a unit.

Champion name sounds more like a UU for a civ than a generic one...

Well, speaking as someone who has zero interest in multiplayer, I gotta say the only outrage I have is over losing Orc Slaying. That was pretty much always the second promotion I'd take after Combat I. I'll miss it.

I agree about the champion thing to actually. I think it would be a better name for a UU, maybe bannor.

Yeah we had a lot of posts about it internally (champion was the name I threw on it while we were deciding a better name). We never came up with one that really seemed perfect to us, and when I relalized how few civs still use the base champion level unit anyway (of the evil only the Svartalfar and the Balseraphs havent replaced it, and I fully expect the balseraph to replace it soon) I relaized it didnt matter much anyway.

The only outrage I even slightly feel is the loss of the Twisted Spire, but I'm usually drowning in gold by that point in the game. I'll throw my opinion out there since a lot of people are against gunpowder units but I like the fact that they're some of the last units in the game. Then again, maybe I'm just biased as a result of the civilopedia entry about them being the heralds of a new age without magic.

In defense of the Arqeubus and Cannon; I'm very fond of these units for digging out heavily entrenched enemies. They can break stalemates and serve as excellent expendable soldiers.

Given the potential for much higher city defences in Shadow, what with citadels and a certain guild, I can see them getting more use :)

4. Removed the Twisted Spire wonder (this doesnt justify its own wonder in FfH because we have less religious buildings than vanilla, we may reuse the effect combined with more abilities in a new wonder).

I don't have any particular attachment to the Twisted Spire, but I would like to address the reasoning behind its removal. The lack of religious buildings seems to be an area that could be looked at. I was actually hoping to see some added to further flesh out the religions. Also, significant culture boosting buildings seem to be lacking, as far as I can tell, and some cathedralish action could remedy that.

Just a minor gripe, though, no outrage here. Love the mod and looking forward to Shadow. Thanks for all the hard work!

I'm glad the thieves guild buildig is being taken out. I never really understood what it did or what it was actually for. I'm not sure about the golems though, they could be quite useful at times, quite strong and unlimited.

hmm.. why were the opposing "Advanced Temples" ever removed? They were gone before I discovered FfH (I started with .16), so I have no experience with them, but they seem like a very good idea.

I too think that the Twisted Spiral should have been fixed not by removal but by adding more religious buildings.

Based on feedback the day has been renamed to "The Day of Modest Irritation and/or Benign Agreement". That is such a less catchy title.

I follow the rationale for virtually all of the changes and agree with virtually all of them. What I do like is the idea of keeping the game clean and fun, I've played a number of the epic mods and felt that in many cases a unit/tech/building was put in simply because it could be rather than if it added fun.

Well done team really looking forward to Friday (I know it's Sunday but it's part of my cunning plan to get it a couple of days early)

If we're changing names do we want to change the typo in the post of 10/12? As an expert speller I think I can avoid any one calling me a black pot ;)

Hiring mercenaries is nice (they can’t be built anymore) but the real strength of the guild is the occasional opportunity to hire experienced units. They usually come ready to fight with a few promotions and can allow you the chance to grab units you don’t have the buildings or resources for, or to get units with unusual promotions (emphasis mine).

I say we put these two together. Hiring a mercenary company dedicated to slaying elves or somesuch would be fun and interesting.

No worries. It looks like things have been cleaned up quite a bit. Can the Bannor pikeman graphic be kept and used for, say, the warrior? That would be great.
