Many kickstarters and small games that could be interesting but perhaps are a bit under the radar.

I heard about this:

Link to video.

It probably won't become an FTL in 3d, but I like the concept.

Warhammer Quest is $40 for a ipad game, and it has microtransactions in a single player game LOL
What a joke, you could buy a dozen good steam games instead.

Ran into this city building game, which is under development - City Bound

Doesn't look like much yet, but the guy seems to be a good programmer at least and seems to have his head screwed on right. Not sure about his ability (edit: it actually seems to be 2 guys) to keep the game engine running smoothly with so many objects being simulated, nor about what the plan is for the textures, other graphical elements, etc.

But could be promising! Here's an interesting entry in the dev blog

Looks like they already price dropped that gold rush game to $20.

The guy who sits next to me at work is college buddies with one of the developers of this game called Phantasmal which was just greenlit on steam and is coming early access end of April. I'm probably getting a free key, might be able to get more.

It's not really a genre I enjoy but the game looks solid and apparently it's all procedurally generated. It's described as a rogue like fps horror title inspired by the likes of dead space and silent hill.

I was excited for this game but now it looks cancelled. Also I didn't think it was a browser game... so maybe it would've sucked anyway.

Also, SPAZ2!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to a price drop on GTA5 as well :D

I was thinking about Chris King (formally of Paradox Interactive) the other day and wondering what he's doing now. Turns out he's got a little studio and is making a sci-fi 4x game called Galactic Inheritors.

I haven't read all the dev diaries yet but I might keep an eye on it from time to time.

Its on Steam Early Access for £11.

You should try spaz out. It's very easy to get into, very easy to learn but fun to play cus of the openness of it. It gets kind of repetitive near the end game when you have the best ships and all that cus you'll basically pick one best design and stick with it, but in the beginning stages you are always trying to find new weapons and ship designs and money to acquire them and it's a lot of fun.

Yes it is cus steam spoils us with countless sales, no one in their right minds would ever pay full price for anything on steam. Or anything on pc at all for that matter, considering how many digital sites are out their with constant discounts.

How about this one?

It's Richard Garriot's new company with a kickstarter to make an Ultima successor. It's somehow going to be an mmorpg as well as single player. I don't know exactly how that works, but I guess you can choose to play it online as a mmo or play in your own single player world. Personally I think it'll flop. I mean how many of those nostalgia filled kickstarters actually succeed, on top of the fact that it looks like another generic mmorpg, which usually flop. I mean if elder scrolls online can't make a hit, why would this? Plus the ultima universe is freakin' strange for those not used to it. At least it won't have sub fees if you do wish to try it.

Star wars battlefront trailer looks amazing!

I'm not sure how the actual game will be, who knows. And based on that trailer the requirements might be absurdly high. But it's made by DICE and while I have never played battlefield anything people seem to like them as far as simulation value.

My guess is that it doesn't, and I agree with you that it will most likely flop. Not just commercially, but also critically.
I think a lot of the old big name developers are overrated, behind the times in game design and have peaked one or two decades ago.
That includes Sid Meier who hasn't been the lead developer of a proper stategy game since his microprose days.

I am pretty excited about The Witcher 3, but probably won't get it for a couple of months because I don't currently have a lot of time for games. The fact they are already selling a "season pass" also leaves a sour tasete.

Yeah I have opinions on that topic of old developers. I just don't understand a lot of their games. Like ultima series. The storyline is insane. There are some very complex storylines out there like the assassin's creed series and dragon age series, but the ultima one looks like some half baked fantasy crossed with scientology stuff that doesn't add up. If you tried to put out a game today with a main character named "Lord British" you'd probably get your game mocked on every single forum there is. Does anyone honestly care about the ultima lore or universe enough to want it in a new game? And the gameplay, it may have been groundbreaking concepts in the 80s but today? It's probably just plain vanilla mmo stuff. Even their ideas like oh we're gonna have housing! That's been done a dozen times over the past decade.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Pillars of Eternity.

I know that this post is three months old, but I'm pretty happy that PoE apparently turned out well.

i don't like lord shamino's game design philosophy much (i liked the underworld spinoffs more), but i definitely WON'T buy a game where the main character is an adult male named SOLID SNAKE.:crazyeye:
