[MOD] MagisterModmod

A few things so far:

Scouts with light? Very nice. Makes the unit more unique and even more useful.

Getting a Cultist so early is scary, basically a free win against anything coastal...and along rivers? Seemed to create the effect, but being on hills protects? Not sure how the new mechanic is working. Something should be in game to delay Typhoon, though. Way to scary for so early in the game.

Playing Calabim, can't seem to make drowns. Is this because they don't count as warriors or am I missing something. Can't seem to build them either, so perhaps I am missing a tech prereq that I didn't notice.

In my modmod almost any melee unit is eligible for Drowning. (Exceptions include world units, national units, units with limited duration, and non-living units.) The strength of the Drown is based on that of the unit that became the Drown. To balance this, the cost of the spell is based on the unit's strength and level, and the spell requires the Necromancytechnology. Drowns are no longer an early game powerhouse, but are better later on.

I don't mind rewarding those who found religions with a free priest. You have to adopt OO as your state religion to use Tsunami, and are missing out on the other early advantage of Drowns anyway. On much of the map an early Confessor's Ring of Fire would be more useful.

Winter priests can't get Ice 2, probably because they lack channeling 2 promo turning them very much useless.

I got an assassin early on and trained to lvl 6 but no Aeron's promotion. Chances that some other civ beat me to it so early are slim so I was wondering if you changed anything about it.

The 3 named priests of Winter still have Ice promotions. They are all you get in normal FfH2, so anything else is extra.

Priests of Winter can still move Blizzards without Ice promotion, and can still upgrade to High Priests of Winter, Eidola, or Immortals (Hiers of Taranis for the Illians). High Priests of Winter can still create Blizzards and summon Tar Demons.

Giving Priests of Winter the channeling promotions to purchase ice promotions would give them access to other mana spheres, which I do not want. They actually do get Ice promotions for free based on how much Ice mana you own when you build them. I don't mind limits on their ability to grow stronger than they were when you built them, considering that they worship the sphere of nostalgia and sticking with what is familiar.

Aeron's chosen now requires the Marksman promotion rather than unitclass_assassin. This means that Devouts can no longer get it, but Shadows, Losha Valas, Rathus Denmora, and Alazkan the Assassin can.

um, it is a canonical mod, ...how golems get their promos from lurchuirp hero?

I have not been in Kael's head therefore I'm not so familiar with deeper lore.

This mod looks awesome. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Edit: It seems to want to place the mod in the Civ4 mod folder, as opposed to the BTS mod folder (inside the Civ4 folder). So I copied FFH into there. But when it tries to launch, it can't find the BTS exe inside the Civ4 folder, because it's in the BTS folder. I'm not an expert on modding, so what can I do to make it work?

Edit 2: I fixed it by moving stuff back to the BTS mod folder and redirecting the shortcut. But it still seems like there may be a problem with the installer.

In my mod instead of having all golems in your empire get empower promotions based on Barbaxus's Combat promotions, golems in the same stack as Barbaxus learn the actual promotions he has (1 random promotion per turn). This is handled through the perTurnTeachGolems(caster) PyPerTurn effect of the Pieces of Barnaxus promotion, which should cause the effect to happen only when Barnaxus is the unit with the promotion. However, just after my last release I noticed that there is a typo (a != instead of == ) which causes Barnaxus to be the only unit that cannot teach golems with that promotion. This will be fixed in the next release.

I'm not really sure what to say about the installer. I just followed Valkirion's instructions. Maybe you should ask him why it isn't working for you.

Do those of you with trouble installing my mod happen to have a Steam version of Civ IV? I believe that I've heard that is installed in a different path than Civ IV that is installed from a disk. Maybe that is the problem?

I know I never had a problem when I tried running the installer on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit computer with Civ and BtS installed from the disk.

Would you consider moving the Elohim world spell earlier up the tech line? I realize that it can be abused to take and seal off enemy cities, but Fanaticism is way down the tech line. Elohim are weak in the early game. I would use that spell as a way to protect myself from early rushes until I could get monks, as that tech takes a while to get now. Now the world spell takes so long to get, it does not serve much use.

Temple of Kilmorph - great person per common mine is definitely overpowered. Great person per bronze/iron/mithril mine - that is enough.

+1 for scutarii. (but that may be hard to code)
(however, the +1 specialist per mine for the holy city is fine I think).

I have a mega Elohim city:
holy RoK, Order and Empy.
+temples of RoK and Order.
add to that 4hills--> 4 mines --> 8specialists
+3forts in desert : --> 6specialists.
+2 fishboats (and OOtemple)(I'll take the  for 2 specialists any time.
and last GL (+1sage)
and as I have desert/forts tiles, I think that at size 20, I have more specialists than working citizen :D
Why do you think I'll stay very very long in god King?

A minor complaint:
I don't like the option for "No Acheron" being tied to the option for no dragon religion. I got tired of an unkillable (for most of the game) unit spawning in the barb city I was just about to take and completely screwing up my early game. That doesn't mean I don't want to, at some later point, build my own dragon if I'm playing the right civ. Would it be possible to split the "No Acheron" option into its own category again? If not, giving an at least mid-game tech requirement to the dragon's hoard would be enough. It would actually be preferable. I do like the guy, just not so early.

I have just uploaded a new version. Note that unlike the last few releases, this one will break saved games.

Barbaxus now correctly shares his promotions with other golems. The Rebuild Barnaxus and Rebuild The Mithril Golem spells now work more like Ressurection, keeping the units old promotions etc. They also grant free promotions from Blasting Workshops, Pallens Engines, etc.

The Judecca, Lethe, Meresin, Ouzza, Sallos, and Statius all use different graphics. Previously Lethe looked like a Succubus, Judecca a Lich, Statius a Paladin, and the rest all like Balors. Now Lethe looks like an Illusionist, Meresin an Angel of Death, Ouzza an infernal Beastmaster, Sallos a Doviello Immortal, and Statius a dark elven Immortal. They are all bigger than the other units with the same graphics and they use the buttons of the appropriate leaderheads, so they are easy to tell apart.

The heroes that are avatars of leaders can now only be resurrected by the appropriate leaders. More heroes can be resurrected now.

Resurrected units start injured, and as if they already casted and attacked that turn.

Yvain again uses his old button, from when he was a Woodelf instead of a Treant or a Satyr.

The Lamia arcane units have their own buttons based on screenshots of the units, rather than using the Svartalfar arcane unit buttons.

The Trojan Horse is back in the game. This is an invisible land unit that can carry other land units as cargo and sneak them through rival territory without requiring open border or right of passage agreements. It requires Deception, but has no religion prereq.

CIV4UnitInfos.xml (and thus the way units appear in worldbuilder) has been reorganized. Heroes/World units are at the end, just after national units. Civilians are at the beginning, followed by animals, beasts, equipment, and the the rest.

Civ4BuildingInfos.xml (and thus buildings in worldbuilder) have been reorganized somewhat too.

Baboons have been added to the list of animals. The result of wonder that turns a unit into a Baboon will actually turn a unit into a baboon, not just change the artstyle (which usually seems to have no effect). World units cannot get that result.

All the animals have cages now, and so do races like Centaur and Frostling. The Grand Menagerie no longer has specific cages as prerequisites in xml, but rather python code requiring the city have any 8 cages in it.

Scorch can remove Blizzards.

Acheron now has the tech prereq of Mysticism. Disciples of Acheron require Priesthood.

Membership in the Undercouncil or Overcouncil automatically grants embassies with your fellow members. (This is necessary for their open borders and defense pact resolutions to work in advanced tactics games.)

Tholal's code relating to the spread of The Order and The Ashen Veil into cities with the other present has been extended to also happen between The Order and The Octopus Overlords, The Empyrean and The Ashen Veil, The Empyrean and The Council of Esus, and Children of The One and any other religion.

Demon Lords start with embassies and defensive pacts with their summoners.

The Infernal pact now correctly grants peace with the barbarians.

I have included Terkhen's spell that allows anyone at peace with the barbarian state to declare war on them at any time. (This includes a confirmation popup, in case you click it by mistake.)

------
I was originally planning on testing and maybe changing a bit more and then releasing it after midnight, and just noticed that within the game it still claims the version is April 4 2012 instead of April 3. I decided to release it early and go to bed early tonight, as I only got a couple hours of sleep due to modding last night and tomorrow morning I will need to wake up early to visit my father in the hospital again. I described his condition here if you are curious.

nice of you to prepare so much toys to play with :D it's like christmas every day for us.

sorry about your father, hope they find what he has.

and on an unrelated note:
does your comments on "Order and OO" means that having Order in a city prevents you to get OO ? and EMpy prevents AV and CoE? or does that just limit the autospread? or does it mean that any of those combination brings disorder and  ...?

could you explain who are Judecca, Lethe, Meresin, Ouzza, Sallos, and Statius and how you get/encounter them ? (well, if not, I'll check on the civopedia next evening).

I was really sad reading about your father, MC. I hope he recovers.

I believe it means that if you try to spread Order to a city with OO, either it will fail, or OO will be removed. Ditto for all the other combos.

And those are the other Demon Lords. The Infernals can be summoned into the game 7 times. Hyborem will be one of their leaders, and the others the others. (Grammar?)

Sorry to hear that, MC, a part of my mother's family has the same cancer... atm my aunt. For the fungus infection... if it is heavy, a supplemental diet is useful: no sugar, no alcohol, no red meat (or no meat at all, but fish is allowed, and maybe chicken). But your physicians will know best. Hope he recovers soon!!!

white hand holy wonder is not passing promised immune to cold promotion to units. and some text-key-create-blizzard errors. Also txt key build musterval cage.

In Tholal's More Naval AI, having the Order spread into a city with the Ashen Veil (or vice versa) will always result in one of the religions being removed (unless the city was a holy city). There was a 35% chance of removing the old religion and a 65% chance of removing the new religion.

I copied the code for the conflict between those 2 religions to also apply to the Order-OO, Empyrean-Veil, and Empyrean-CoE pairing. I placed these all within a if statement that makes there be a 20% chance that no religions will be removed. For most pairings the odds are still 35 to 65 in favor of the older religion when one is to be removed, but where Children of The One is present there is only a 5% chance of it being removed and a 95% chance of it stopping the new religion from spreading. Other religions are not removed upon the spread of Children of The One, but the faith can still cause random monothiest revolts like before.

As A Moon said, Judecca, Lethe, Meresin, Ouzza, Sallos, and Statius are Demon Lords who like Hyborem may be summoned by the Infernal Pact ritual. The ritual randomly selects one of these leaders that has not yet been in the game and assigns it to a new faction of the Infernals. (One change I did not mention is that Hyborem is no longer listed as the Infernal Hero, as he is not the hero of the other Demon Lords.)

Apparently I forgot to give the Immune Cold promotion any unitcombats, so New Mulyr cannot give it to any units. I just set it to work with ever unitcombat on my computer, but such a minor change does not warrant a separate release.

I'll look into the TXTKEY issues.

Edit: I found and fixed the TXTKEYs. I also discovered that The Grand Menagerie can never be built because in the python code requiring at least 8 cages I wrote BUILDING_WOLF_CAGE when it is supposed to be BUILDING_WOLF_PEN. While I was fixing that I decided to add a Lizardman Cage and a Satyr Cage, as I had simply forgotten about them when I was adding cages for slaves of the other races.
---

I just got back from the hospital. I went to see my dad in the ICU with my mother this morning, and then returned with my sister this afternoon after he was moved to a regular hospital room. He is greatly improved over yesterday. He still got pretty confused over a few things, but is quite lucid and no longer in pain from his rashes. He still reminds us that he dislikes catheters, but does not have to be physically restrained to keep him from pulling his out. His fever is gone. They do not yet have even preliminary analysis of the blood cultures. The standard blood tests showed low white blood cell counts, an electrolyte imbalance, and high blood sugar, but none really extreme enough to explain his symptoms. His thyroid stimulating hormone level was very high, but the levels of the hormones the thyroid creates were quite normal. They gave him intravenous potassium and magnesium as well as 2 broad spectrum antibiotics and an anti-fungal drug. They have started giving him 2 units on insulin every 6 hours to combat the elevated blood sugar. While I was there the second time, he was taken away for an MRI of his head. The terrible constipation he had been suffering for a week and a half has changed to diarrhea. Since he kept getting up on his own to go to the bathroom just before we arrived, they put up notices that he was a fall risk. The thrush is still bothering him when he eats. He was able to eat most of his fried chicken and all of his mashed potatoes and banana pudding at lunch, but avoided the cornbread and turnip greens. For dinner he was only able to eat one bite of his spaghetti and meat sauce and none of his salad, but all of his peaches. The nurse had them bring him more peaches, some peach yogurt, and some pudding, which he was still eating when we left. (For two or three days before going to the hospital he was been pretty much subsisting on peach yogurt and whey protein mixed into dark chocolate almond milk, since everything else was hurting his mouth. He had been avoiding anything with sugar before that. He was a heavy drinker and smoker during his first marriage, but it has been about 33 years since he has consumed any alcohol and 25 years since his last cigarette.) Just before we left the nurse brought him a toothbrush, as he had been complaining all day about not having brushed his teeth since he arrived. This morning he kept thinking it was Thursday, and this evening he said that he felt like he had been hospitalized for a month and was surprised to hear it was only since yesterday morning. My oldest half brother (who happens to be a physical therapist) is planning to visit him on his way home from work tonight, and actually might be there at this very moment.

did they control his kidneys? livers? combined with dehydration and loss of electrolytes, this may explain his desorientation... this and his drug medication may cause this. And really talk about some diet. In Germany, I can't recall any nutrition like this for a case like your father. But it is very hard to judge from this distance... I hope he recovers soon. Best wishes, MC.

Greez,

Tschuggi

I just got back from visiting him again. He has continued to improve. He is quite pleased that he no longer has to use the catheter. He is saying that they need to go ahead and let him go home, and (I think jokingly) claiming that he is going to bust out on his own if they don't do so soon. None of the tests have discovered any more problems. So far there has been zero growth in the blood cultures, which probably means that he does not have any infection in his blood. He was only given one unit of insulin today, when his blood sugar was at 150. His thrush is still bothering him though, enough that he is now refusing to east almost anything. When his ex-wife visited today she claimed that her mother once had very similar reaction to Levaquin, the antibiotic he was placed on when he had a 104 degree fever 2 weeks ago. It apparently caused both a severe rash and delirium in both of them. The nurse seems to think that said medication may explain all the reasons he had to be admitted.

Edit: I just looked up Levaquin, and found that the list of its potential side effects includes all of his symptoms. (He did already have the thrush for months before taking it, but it could have exacerbated that too.) Things could have been worse; since he was over 60 and was taking a corticosteroid at the same time, there was a huge risk that it could have caused his tendons to rupture.

Edit2: Mom talked to his doctor on the phone, as was told that there is a good chance he can come home tomorrow afternoon.
