Hi, new to these forums and CivFanatics. I'd like to suggest a list of tutorials on modifying Civ 2 would be very nice because I'm completely at loss as to what to do.

Also, I'm new to civ in general, it's only just now that I looked back into my shelf of old games and said - "Hey, I remember Civilization. It brought me so much fun", and pulled it out. I have a few questions:
1) I'm not sure what version of Civ2 I have, in my game case it has three spots where you can put discs, these are filled with the original Civ, Civ2 and ToT. I'm not sure if this is gold edition or what, it's driving me crazy.
2) A little newb-ish, but, how do you get modifications to work (and scenarios)?
3) I want to get right into scenario, unit and building creations, where do I start? This is why I'm asking for a list of tutorials.

Sorry for the mess I've just posted, see if you can get any method from my madness.

Thanks in advance if you can answer any of my questions. And, oh, did I mention... Hi, I'm SpecialCookies. =D

1) You probably have the vanilla/classic CivII. You can download the patches to make it into MGE (Multiplayer Gold Edition) here:

There are five patches to install (MGE 1-5) but it is worth doing as you will be able to play more scenarios.

2) To get scenarios to work make a folder in your main CivII folder (found under MPD>CivII) where all the other files are kept. In your new scenario folder copy and paste new scenarios. You could play scenarios from the desktop or any other location but this helps keep things in order!

I would suggest starting by downloading some other peoples scenarios and looking at how they work. The main files you can manipulate are the RULES, EVENTS and Graphics. There are hundreds of scenarios, thousands of new units and numerous utilities that make editing games easier. Hard to know where to start really, steep learning curve as there is so much history. Probably the best way to learn is to try and build a scenario, which may well be a mess, and pick things up as you go along + learn from your own mistakes!

There are other good sites too but this should help you get started.

The best places to post queries are here and Apolyton. Good luck.
