Deity sub 200 turn science victory attemtp

It can be. Each Civ gets a sub continent and are connected by an Isthmus. The subs are big enough for about 5 cities before you need more room but knowing the AI... In addition if you are slow to scout you may be blocked from further scouting until you get OB or Sailing.

You can pick the dominant type of terrain (Plains, Jungle, Grasslands, Forest) as well as the width of the Isthmus (2-4 hexes) and finally the land cohesion for your sub continent (Natural, Pressed and Solid)

In my last play of the Ring map., I was America and started with about 20+ Iron on my Sub continent! So you can get very lucky starts with that :D

I will say that in this order the terrain encourages war the most: Grasslands->Plains->Forests->Jungle. On jungle the AI is forced to expand much more slowly in the beginning since even they need Bronze Working. I recommend a Monty Swordsman rush :D Conversley Jungle Monty is the perfect science/culture game setting as well, albeit a little slow on production until BW to chop those Jungles and put up mines.

No-no-no, no culture-science nonsense in the nearest future for me. When I mentioned culture game I addressed Realyn's crazy culture game. That's kind of thing I can put up with. :D Also secluded start is comfortable to play yet, I have to admit, boring. I was thinking about Earth map next, as I didn't play on continents for quite a while. And never played this script as well. But we'll see. Too many plans, too little time at this point.

I can see it if its a scenario map of sorts like trying to hold a pass from wave after wave of enemy AIs or something unique like that.

Great stuff so far pilgrim. You're certainly doing a great job managing the other Civs in being friendly with you! Looking forward to the next update :)

Part V: Shooting steroids:

Well, not exactly. I was hoping that's what will happen, but reality is harsh.
I did however realized, that in order to have at least a shot at my goal I have to make those tiny cites grow.
Turn 125 was primarily a tiresome micromanaging, a hopeless attempt to avoid loosing too many beakers along with not giving up on food entirely.

Spoiler :

But turn 126 was an eventful one. Lots of deals expired, giving me back all my luxes.

Caravel sailed to snoop around Persia. Nothing magnificent.
Spoiler :

Sydney was about to fall ruining my megalomaniac growing plans.
Askia was not inclined to leave it live, not even for all my luxes. Not than I'd give them away... He's still totally broke. Askia... go figure... :crazyeye:
Spoiler :

So the very next thing I did was checking which city 'desires' what lux and trading whatever I have, sacrificing income.
One of my cities wanted sugar, one dyes, two wine and another one silk. AI didn't have silk unfortunately. Stockholm did. Well... Maybe later we'll get to that too.
Spoiler :

Wasn't crazy about trading iron to Darius but he was the only one with wine. And by now he has plenty of his own, it can't hurt me too much.

And it's policy time! I figured out (ok, the calculator did :crazyeye:) I can't have additional GS by picking Freedom without keeping scientists slots in Sukhotai filled till the very and even then he/she'll be born in 190s, thus there was no point in wasting a policy. I took Secularism instead, which increased my bpt by 24:c5science:.
Spoiler :

It's still not very high for 5 cities. But we're growing, right?

Everybody is on mad food focus. With 'We love the king day' they are about to grow. The question is how much.
Spoiler :

Small adjustments to the research path:
Spoiler :

Just realized something stupid I was doing: irrigating inland tiles and TP'ing next to a lake tiles. :mischief: Not used to play without rivers... Workers were sent to fix my mistakes.
Spoiler :

WLTKD! Hurray! :king:
Spoiler :

Not everything is so beautiful and joyful. Yet another annoyance. Arabia stole Geneva. AGAIN!
Will have to wait.
Spoiler :

Although who cares when I'm so popular!
Spoiler :

Cotton deal with Harun is over but the bastard got Brussels, with the only cotton source that isn't mine on the map. Had they been closer to me, I would sooo killed'em!

Sold Gandhi horses and bought Geneva back. This is just stupid. AI has thousands. Why would it throw 250:c5gold: every time when it can easily secure his ally from a broke human with 1000?
Spoiler :

Kept scouting around Persia. Meh...
Spoiler :

Sharing tiles between horse city and pearls city to maximize number of worked irrigated farms.
Spoiler :

Hiawatha wants to join the love fest. I should have checked global politics screen more often to know where he stands. But I didn't. Anyway, since he's isolated I assumed he cannot have too many enemies. Yet. :)
Let's be friends then.
Spoiler :

And yeah... Harun vs. Askia - round #2 as well. No need to be a genius not to put money on my poor neighbor.
Spoiler :

Look, CS wants XP too. Very effective job. :D
It was also a turn when Sydney eventually fell. :( Good bye dear friend. At least you put up a fight. :(

Next, Harun came and also suggested to love me. Thanks. I think I'll pass this time.
Spoiler :

Taj Mahal goes on turn 132! :crazyeye:
Spoiler :

Resell cotton to Persia. Start saving money for the last RA wave.

My boat is finally back at home. Egyptian one had no business in our lands, yet is sat on that tile forever without any semi-decent reason. Made me uneasy.
Spoiler :

One more mouth to feed...
Spoiler :

Taking a brief look at Persepolis...
Spoiler :

Arabia plopped a city on his continent. Good news for me. They'll hate each other and with a bit of luck Harun will find Darius what to do instead of me.
Just not yet.
Spoiler :

I micromanaged the capital to finish a forge in one turn and be able to start on public school immediately.
Spoiler :

In addition I switched production in two cities one turn before workshop completion. A total overkill in retrospective, oh well... Was really paranoid about maintenance.
Spoiler :

Got Scientific Theory on turn 136, set production focus in capital and began building public school.
Spoiler :

Keep it up! Sub 140 for scientific theory is obligatory for sub 200 science victories. Let's hope that you will gain enough :c5gold: for last waves.

If you want an extra golden age, try to get a gg from barbs xp farms since you don't fight at all.

The hat is still on the plate, my friend.

Currently crappy production is even bigger concern than cash (can't believe I actually say this :crazyeye:). I don't recall whose thread was it, but there was one in S&T section about scientific victory when playing 'Thin and short'. That's such kind of game obviously.
Yeah, I was thinking about GA more than once during the last session. I only have 73/200XP, so it's not a unit or two. I wouldn't mind to postpone a natural GA and keep going on neutral happiness till the very spaceship parts faze. However I have no one to sell a bloody cotton to anymore and giving it away for free would be a bit too crazy. And I can use the money and extra hammers, for sure. We'll see. I doubt I'll find barbs close by at this point. If everybody (*cough* Darius *cough* ) continues to play nicely, I'll beat up Stockholm or something. Maybe Askia, if all other RA's of the third wave survive. His will be the last one anyways. I don't need 7. Will make them just to cover my behind in case somebody does get in the backstabbing mood.

Problems I see:
1)Obviusly the Farm thing aside lakes
2)The fact you waited for your tireme so much time, it cost you so much.. every age it costs more gpt, shoulda burned it..
3) I don't want to analyze much the GE thing but they could've had a better used than being burned, of course I agree on your ND pursue, but not being rushed..
4) You need to unlock some spaceship parts very soon, like 160s if you want to build them wiht that lousy production

I hope you can achieve this, though I find that cash debt a really big problem, even more if you are going to sign RAs later
Maybe if you had rerolled this would be completely different, that spot really messed everything up, though is really defensive
About production:
I think the city on the west can have a good production based on a stable and 4 pasture resources
The east one is based on pure lumber mills which will produce more after scientific revolution
But your south city I think it's Lampang, needs Harbour and Seaport, which would get your gpt under your beaker production
So... Good luck :p lol
Hopes everything goes well

Problems I see:
1)Obviusly the Farm thing aside lakes
Actually, it was a single tile which wasn't even worked most of the time. Lost just a tiny bit of food. Far from being a "thing". :)

2)The fact you waited for your tireme so much time, it cost you so much.. every age it costs more gpt, shoulda burned it..
I disagree. The fact it waited 7 turns till I payed Askia for OB wouldn't matter. I have no intention to dismiss it. Ships are my main defense since there is basically no threat from land. Askia is too weak to do anything at this point. Later on hopefully I'll crank out couple more.

3) I don't want to analyze much the GE thing but they could've had a better used than being burned, of course I agree on your ND pursue, but not being rushed..
What would be a better use for them in your opinion? Manufacture? Competing against deity Egypt with marble and his oversized capital, I wouldn't take a chance with PT ever. I would lose more turns on non optimal RA's than on bad production. Same for ND. I seriously doubt I'd manage to hard build it. It started as late wonders game but then Harun and Ramesses picked up the pace. Besides, my capital had better use for these 12-13 turns. The only other viable option, as I've mentioned, was choosing GS over GE. It was a gamble. I don't know if it will pay off. We'll have to wait and see.

4) You need to unlock some spaceship parts very soon, like 160s if you want to build them wiht that lousy production
Well, even with a lousy production I think I'll manage to complete a part in less than 40 turns. :)

I hope you can achieve this, though I find that cash debt a really big problem, even more if you are going to sign RAs later
Obviously I will. Cash dept is a problem, granted, yet not an end of the world. I'm always broke in such games.

Maybe if you had rerolled this would be completely different, that spot really messed everything up, though is really defensive
I'm not a reroller. Optimizing everything already makes this game somewhat tiring and uninspiring, tbh. Rerolling 300 maps till I got a perfect spot would murder my desire to play this game forever. I play pretty much every map I roll. If I got beaten, so be it. It has to be unplayable for automatic reroll. This one is playable.

About production:
I think the city on the west can have a good production based on a stable and 4 pasture resources
They're constantly shared between all cities, there is no singe city that work more than 2 simultaneously. It's on my to do list anyways. After a bit of growth.

The east one is based on pure lumber mills which will produce more after scientific revolution
Scientific Theory, which I've got already. It actually may end up to be better than other three. Anyways, most forests will be chopped for parts.

But your south city I think it's Lampang, needs Harbour and Seaport, which would get your gpt under your beaker production
It really does. Getting there. Sea resources based cities are painfully slow. If I had spare cash, I'd rush bought a harbor a long time ago. I'll let cities grow and chew up the happiness, then will switch back to production focus everywhere.

Although people say that laziness is the driving force behind progress, it will kill me one day.
Have ~350 screenshots. Processing, uploading and posting will take some time.

Anyways, back to our business...

Turn 136 continues.
Research is set to Chemistry.
An overview of my little empire. No coal. Neither for me, nor for my CS ally. :(
Spoiler :

Askia, however, does have some decent amount.
Spoiler :

There are only two CS with coal. Kathmandu - in the most unreachable location:
Spoiler :

And another maritime, Cape Town, I think - the most southern on the 'mainland', next to Egypt.
Arabia started invading America from a rather weird angle.

Switch forest city to library 1 turn prior workshop completion. Boy, I was paranoid that day even by my standards... :crazyeye:
Spoiler :

Darius, btw, has tons of coal.
Spoiler :

I seriously hope I have some aluminum at least. You've been warned, map generator!

Ok, now these are two things I don't understand.
First, if somebody knows where the heck that boat is going, please enlighten me!
Spoiler :

Second, how on earth a guy who was completely broke 5 turns ago can make all of a sudden 109gpt?
Spoiler :

He couldn't get all of this from Sydney, obviously. Even with GA and I don't know what else such sudden income skyrocketing doesn't make any sense to me.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though. Ramesses is beating him hard which comforts me a bit. :D
Spoiler :

Persian border looks calm and peaceful.
Spoiler :

And the very next moment he blocked me... Son of a gun. I know you did it on purpose...
Spoiler :

No need to be worried about Songhai in this game.
Spoiler :

Thanks to my egyptian buddy.
Spoiler :

Seriously, all this love - it's unhealthy. I'm not used to it. :crazyeye:

First RA of the second wave kicks in on turn 143, grants me Chemistry (yay! production boost ) and most of Archeology.
Spoiler :

Due to recent deal expirations I feel like a Rockefeller. :D Don't have to beg this time.

America, just as Songhai, is not doing so well.
Spoiler :

And Darius starts gathering units close to our borders. Oh boy...
Spoiler :

Our RA resolves in only 3 turns (4 for me). Crossing my fingers...

Tech tree reminder:
Spoiler :

More love doesn't help me with paranoia right now.
Spoiler :

Next RA completes Archeology and most of Military Service.
I'm delaying Fertilizer in favor of Biology. Darius has 3 turns to break RA...
Spoiler :

I'm still a 'millionaire' by this game's standards, so:
Spoiler :

Another odd thing I wasn't aware of. I thought diplo bonuses for DoF expire when DoF does. Apparently not.
Spoiler :

On the same note did a quick check who is truly my friend and who's just being a typical deceptive backstabber.
Spoiler :

And of course:
Spoiler :

Didn't sign any, obviously. Just checked. The fact they're willing to sing a defensive pact with me is a solid indicator of their peaceful intentions. I can take a breath, I guess...

Maybe I missed Harun, or just didn't capture his positive answer. Can't remember now.
Still couldn't buy him into war with Darius though.
Spoiler :

RA with Gandhi granted Military Tradition and 2/3rd of Biology.
Spoiler :

46:c5gold: short to renew it. You know the drill...
Spoiler :

Darius has 2 turns to break RA...

The one with Hiawatha is in:
Spoiler :

The good news - I have 7 oil in horse city. Cash + 4 hammer tile.

Capital finishes public school and I assign another specialist.
Spoiler :

I still have 3 RA's in this wave that will kick in on turns 147, 149 and 154 respectably.
So, let's make the most out of them:

Double GS bulbing gives me Electricity.
Spoiler :

Now the median is between Replaceable Parts and Radio. Next turn it will go up to Radio (unless Darius Dow's me).

Egypt keeps wonder spamming.
And Darius has 1 turn to spoil the party...
Spoiler :

...

Spoiler :

Fhew... There were lots of units around his one hex island city all this time, which made me beyond uneasy.

Don't renew it. I know for sure he'll DoW me if I do. Well, even if I don't.
Askia is still taking hopeless shots at arabian CS.
One word. Pathetic.

Metallurgy is up. Got lucky again - forget to queue up next tech. Fortunately, the overflow was carried on to Metallurgy. Nitpicking, yet in this game every tiny detail matters.
Spoiler :

Forest city finally can work on wat.
Spoiler :

Pick Free thought to gain 19 beakers boost to my science and get one step closer to Scientific Revolution.
Spoiler :

I have a question Pilgrim. Let's suppose for a moment, that before that RA completed Darius suddenly declares war. Not having much of a defense, what are you going to do in this case?

Good question actually. Having no defense is not viable on almost any other map.
Here, however, I kept my two boats on notice and Darius had no navy at this point. Had he DoWed me, I could pick most of his embarked melee units off before they even had a chance to land. Concentrating on longswords and pikes. Something I didn't mention and should have, is that I sold him my 8 horses regularly, he had only 4 of his own, I think, but built a lot of horsemen. :) In that case all of them would get a huge penalty and would be killed by city defenses + boats + chariot archer. I also sold him pearls and recently some iron. Cancellation of all deals would allow me to resell everything and upgrade warrior to LS, chariot archer to elephant (22 :c5strength: defensive beast) and trireme to frigate. His medieval units would be slaughtered. In the worst possible scenario I would rush buy a crossbow.
But seriously, at that moment there was no military danger. It could be much worse, had he had a fleet. If ships keep bombarding a city and reduce its defense to zero, all he needs is one 1XP surviving unit to capture it.
