Can't Play Civ Anymore

I have Civ IV on CD, but it seems that the game server no longer functions

Is there ant patch or method of connecting multiplayer via IP or something?

YES, use the direct IP option on the multi play menu.

Yes, We have a server up and running and have many people logging on each night. All you have to do is change your host file and connect through the in game multiplayer tab.

Go into C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/etc and open the file name host. Copy and paste the text below. Enjoy Civ iv Multiplayer

Hi All,

New to this website, old to CIV4. Bought it many years ago and playing off-line since, to include BtS. However, I recently tried to down load some patches to BtS through my on-line computer and nothing worked. iv$ on my off-line computer crashed and will not reload. Got it to reload on my on-line computer and tried to download patch to it but it would not work. Contacted Firaxis/2K and they said I had to register the game on Steam to play it (did not have to do so before). Do not want to be part of the giant database and would like to load and play it off-line and be able to download the patch. Help...?

Right now on Amazon civ4 complete - includes civ3 & civ4, all expansions for both games, updated to latest 3.19 on DVD, for $10.99. Compatible with windows 8, I believe 10 as well. No steam needed and works with downloaded mods. Also once installed you won't need the disk in the drive.

Hmm that's interesting.. Glad to know there is some MP still going on. How does the MP work in Civ 4?

Editing that file needs some priviledges. I havent been able to get it edited just yet.

I believe you have to run notepad as admin and then open it that way in order for you to save it.


EDIT: Yep, run notepad as an admin, open the file, paste it in.. I just created an account and found 3 games going already.. Pretty awesome

Right thats what i need to return to do. Once the file is saved then mp could work.
