PH13: The Book and the Hammer

You are thinking Serfdom...

Vassalage is military experience.
Yup, I meant serfdom :hammer2:

@Kodii

This is not random personalities... but it seriously look that way  But we have to put a eye in toku: he has the AP seat granted and if he vassals AC ( not likely soon, but if he is doing damage to AC without gunpowder, imagine after :faint: ) we'll have a bumpy ride.

good turns rolo ~ that was a close shave by Toku and by taknig cities, he may just be getting closer and closer to a win ~ that would be a PH classic!!

let's wait on the Ind era, and backfill a bit. but are we really sure Steel is an Ind era tech? where should we head instead? we can work our way towards corporations ~

if we really wanted to get an army going, we could go vass/theo and pump out units for the future. but remember, until the Ind era, we can't declare first.

I imagine LK will be able to get the save tonight ~

Ooops, didn't even realize I was up...

I plan on free speech and mercantilism unless anyone objects in the next ~8 hours.

mercantilism is fine as long we're assigning all scientists for now. once the Ind era comes, it'll be problematic, and we'll have to swap back.

free speech, though, i can't understand. just for the culture bonus?? remember, we have no towns to benefit from the other bonus. maybe the low maintenance?? though, what are the other options???

maybe nationhood, and we can draft a few units on our way forward ~ at least that has no maint. nah, maybe FS is the best move after all.

I don't understand why we would need to swap back. We would make our engineer the freebie. Are you worried about cities lacking a forge?

Oops, that is why I try not to speak unless I am looking at the game. I forgot about no cottages when I made that comment.
Forget free speech. I am now leaning toward nationalism for +2 happy from barracks and emergency defense once the war starts.

I may play tonight. It depend on getting at least one comment about nationalism. I would rather delay the game then screw up the civics.

i'm just worried about a huge surplus of food from only being able to run one specialist that is free. If we had plenty of hills to work in our cities, that might be one thing, but I think some will be running into Unhappy issues ~ unless we want to whip them/draft them for units :D

Nationalism sounds good to me, too.

1500 AD
I perform a no anarchy revolt into nationhood and mercantilism.

Steel does put us into the industrial age. Since it is one turn I backfill horseback riding. We may want a few cavalry to cleanup stray out of date units. I see no logical trades, as divine right is useless to us, optics is too cheap and not enough people know economics.
(IT) I next research optics in a single turn.
Gandhi goes nuts and spreads religion to four of our cities.

1505 AD
(IT) Jails are good for war. I start research on constitution.

1510 AD
Surry just got rich. Since he is already researching nationalism, I sell it to him to clear out his $1,070. We will stay in 100% science mode awhile longer.

1515 AD
(IT) India and France are at war. Sury joins a dog pile against France.

1530 AD
(IT) The tech path isn't clear at this point. I set democracy as a placeholder tech thinking about Statue of Liberty.

1535 AD
I can't find anything skimming the last few pages about our Heroic Epic location. However, I think the general settled in Cologne sums things up well.

=======================

I drafted a few muskets to improve our power and soldier ratings.
I built some more workers.

Globe Theater is now available. I want a mega drafting center. Stuttgart only needs 24 turns before getting the extra hammers from the Jewish temple. IMHO we should settler this location before Pholkhero plays.

And the save...

Tech path should be to Corporation for Assembly Line. We need it and Steam Power, which is probably an Ind. Age tech. I will look at the save tonight, and might play. I assume after we are done backfilling, to Assembly Line it is.

I always like it when I get Infantry without building Rifles.

I'm unsure about Musket drafting. I hope at least the cities were way under happy cap.

:dubious: can he build more than 3 missionaries at once?!

Going straight to ass line is good as is drafting muskets. We can start building spies/siege and up the esp slider for revolts

 I know Mystyfly said to skip him, but I don't recall Pholkhero doing so.

Those cities were way under the happy cap, and several cities only had a single obsolete unit in them. The musket was a major improvement.

He spread two different religions at once! I forget which two, but it is the first time that I can recall seeing a nation spread something other that it's primarily religion.

good turns, LK ~ w/o looking at the save, doesn't one of our cities have a 3 food sources?? this one should be the draft farm, esp once we hit the Ind Age and can't run 7 scientists or whatever.

Remember, too, Berlin has good tons of food, but I don't think I want the capital as the draft center.

while the extra specialist would be nice from teh statue, i don't think we need it. At this point, I think Quotey's got it: beeline to AssLine seems about right. I was thinking of this rule modification so we don't have to check every tech along the way. IF we are beelining directly to AssLine, BUT one of the techs along the way pops us into the Ind era, as long as we're proceeding directly to AL, we don't need to convert.

Steel can NOT be finished yet, but if Sci Method bumps us up, as long as we keep going, we don't need to convert. Basically, the aim of the rule is to convert from heavy science to all-out production/military powerhouse like Germany of the industrial/modern era.

I've got the save, and will see what's up with the tech path from here, and look for a suitable drafting post.

I can't recall the game enough to say if there is another city. Don't forget it isn't just the food to draft, but shields to build GT. Stuttgart was a possible for fast building and a ton of farmed flood plains. There may be a better alternative, but I didn't study the map that closely. My main concern was to open up the debate. My short round did get us all the needed theaters.

beeline to AssLine seems about right.
Where did this abbreviation come from? It keeps sounding like we are talking about a plumber that won't pull his pants up far enough.

sounds like you will be drafting crack troops.
