Maybe I am wrong, but I thought this might be an interesting topic. Even if it really does not make much difference. It would be nice to know which luxuries just seem to fit certain civs the best. Any opinions?

Some of main luxuries for the following civs imo are...

America: Gold, Silver, Cotton, Citrus, Salt, Wine, Copper, Whales

Arabia: Gold, Incense, Copper

Austria: Truffles (white), Salt

Aztecs: Gold, Spices

Byzantium: Dye, Silk (Silk worms were smuggled in from China eventually. So, the overland silk trade became less important.)

Carthage: Ivory, Dye, Salt

China: Silk, Spices, Incense, Salt, Citrus, Crab, Gold

Denmark: Silver, Copper

Dutch: Salt, Sugar, Spices from the spice trade.

Egypt: Cotton, Sugar, Incense, Salt

England: Salt, Silver, Gold, Whales, Dye

Ethiopia: Cotton, Gold, Sugar

France: Wine, Truffles (black)

Germany Copper, Salt

Greece: Marble, Wine

Inca: Gold, Silver

India: Ivory, Incense, Salt (India made sea salt to avoid the British salt tax.The British tried to outlaw this salt production. They did not like the competition.), Gems, Cotton, Sugar

Japan: Crab, Silk, Whales

Korea: Crab, Citrus

Ottomans: Incense, Spices, Gold, Silk

Polynesia: Crab, Spices, Citrus, Pearls

Rome: Crab, Wine, Marble, Truffles (white), Salt

Russia: Gems, Silver, Gold, Furs

Siam: Ivory, Pearls

Spain: Citrus, Copper, Wine, Gold, Silver

Songhai: Gems, Gold, Silver

Sweden: Furs, Dye, Copper

Wow, I never thought about this before. Any suggestions?

Denmark (Viking): silver, copper

China: silk, spices, incense, salt, citrus, crab, gold

Japan: crab, maybe silk?

Russia should have fur..

I think some more tropical resources could be added. Breadfruit for Polynesia.

Crab and Citrus goes well with Korea, not that you'd notice, since they never export.
Copper for Sweden, they had so much copper that their currency was copper-backed.
Incense for Arabs, and India, Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood...
Dye for Byzantine and Carthage (Tyrian Purple)
Gold and Silver for Spain, Songhai, and Inca, just gold for Aztecs...

Thanks for the post. I'll keep those in mind. What I will do is add resources to my opening post and add all the resources, you all suggest to it. This kind of thread could be invaluable to map making.

Good thing there's no Colombian civ...

And the Dutch, come on! What's the REAL reason you kids are going to Amsterdam? *opening riff to Purple Haze*

Dutch spice trade from Dutch East India was single most important trade for them and is closely associated to their golden age.
So Spices for Dutch

Thank you, I added that to the list. Again thanks to all of you. This thread turned out to be quite interesting. If anyone can think of any others please post. Any suggestions for Ethiopia?
