For the parts that need multiples, we can multiple build. My experience with the SS is that Apollo takes a long time and the rest of the parts are pretty straight-forward once AP completes. I think we'll have such a massive lead at that point that it won't really matter. We should be building up 3 or 4 production centers near the capital, however. Those will be important because the parts have to be manually shipped to the capital to build the SS.

One point, though, is that the RR to Rome should be prioritized more than I did, since it's building a wonder and will probably be our AP location. No sense letting it miss bonus hammers.

I think Damascus should build AP (unless it counts as a wonder). Rome is only better for wonders because of the marble bonus.

Uh, Arathorn... I (finally) managed to play my turnset and was looking at the screenshots when I realized something odd. My ending screenshot was of 1675, turn 245. The same ending date as in your screenshots. And a bunch of stuff happened that seemed eerily familiar. Yet the saved game from your post is from 1625. I think that you uploaded the save from the beginning of your turn, not the end of your turn. :p And I didn't notice until I'd played it.

[Edit: Never mind, I'm done. I withdraw from the SG. CiV is becoming vastly more of a technical pain in the ass than it is fun, and I take forever to play my turns in the first place.]

Played 10 turns,

did what was suggested to bulb radar and got us Rocketry. Rome is now building the Apollo programme, but it will take another 26 turns to complete.
In the meantime, I got our research up to 850+ so we could finish refrigeration in 3 and now telegraph as well. We will need to get to 900+ to get the next tier research in 3 as well, but with a Golden Age looming as Taj Mahal finishes next turn, this should be fine.

Besides that I RR to Rome and now we are soon to connect Damascus, this will be a killer production city as well.

I started quite a few money buildings and employed more specialists, as we finished Statue of Liberty, they give more bonus as well.

We will be able to pick up a social policy within 20 turns and I suggest to tech 2 free techs.

Jaffa, it seems the newest issue has save incompatabilities again, especially with the Babylon DLC. If you'd be willing to pull that out, it might make things smoother.

If Rome doesn't have a factory, we should rush one there ASAP. Besides that, I don't have much to say.

Arathorn

Time passed. 50 years of time, to be exact.

I traded some of our excess cotton for open borders and some gold from Alex and Darius, and set our cavalry unit to exploring their continent. But then a Great Scientist from Paris discovered Satellites for us, and rendered the exploration redundant.

We finished the Taj Mahal and started a 22-turn Golden Age. We are rolling in cash, so I spent a bunch of money upgrading our antiquated military.

Damascus started building the Eiffel Tower (for the happies). Paris bought a research lab, and is now at 281.75 science (empire-wide total is 1003).

I took the DLC_Deluxe out. Hopefully there won't be issues with the save.

You'd think that Firaxis is totally unaware of the community or doesn't care one bit with their compatibility issues.

I don't want to be forced to disable updates or go steam offline etc. I simply want to play a game here with others.

I for one won't join another SG until Firaxis get their act together to deliver a proper game ( I didn't even mention the many gameplay issues). All the games played here seem to end in some sort of bore from the midgame onwards. It's all decided very early on whether you win (in fact there is little chance to ever lose).

As Arathorn said somewhere, I want to like Civ 5, but in it's current state, it's just not the game we all were looking forward to.

During my turns, I re-bought alliance with Genoa and Singapore. Our research pact with Alex completed, and we got Dynamite out of it. I signed another one for the heck of it, even though it won't matter anymore. Later he asked for free wine, and I caved in simply for the sake of making the end game less risky.

We completed the Eiffel Tower, just when we dropped below 0 happiness - nice.

We finished Apollo in Rome, and it started to build the cockpit. When we had accumulated enough culture for another policy, I selected Scientific Recolution for two free techs: Computers and Robotics. As soon as that happened, I dialed up Alex.

I loaned nearly 4000g from Alex, and spent 5000g to rush-buy four spaceship factories: In Rome, Damascus, Troyes and Lyon. The latter three cities are building thrusters now.

We still have three turns of golden age. I forgot to look if we still have a great general or another great person, but if we have, I suggest spending him on another GA. We're in the middle of researching Globalization, and after that we're only missing Particle Physics and Nanotechnology.

Here's an overview shot of our continent:

And here's Alex' continent:

Not sure this view is any good, but I don't know how to zoom out more in normal view.

It turned out I had the Mongolia DLC installed - didn't know that, as the game never asked or notified me about this. Luckily I checked and removed the DLC folder before playing, hope the save still works now.

See it. Will try to download and load the save tonight. I know I have the Mongolia DLC. Guess I'll pull it out before playing. I probably won't play tonight, though.

Effin' save incompatibilities are going to kill me.

Let's see what will happen next month when the premium DLC (2 new civs + scenario pack) will be available
for the players who bought civ5, Digital Deluxe Edition, at Direct2Drive. I don't think the situation will get better.

Btw, Kylearan's save worked fine with the Mongols.

I didn't even bother and I am sure I have that DLC too and Kylearan could load the save, guess that's not an issue then.

@Tatran, I wonder who needs more Civs in the game when all they do is feel very similar. Initially I also wanted to see more Civs but since they are all bland, I couldn't be bothered less. Except that in my last attempt at this game, I got Mongols as enemies and their ridiculous UU make the AW game unplayable. What sort of balance is this?

Not a whole lot to say/do. Most of the time was spent finding things for workers to do. Singapore requested a road, so I'm building that. Might as well complete it. No real reason not to.

In other news, our Golden Age ended.

However, other news came that same turn.

Golden Age restarted. :D Ain't it grand when things work out? Of course, having Iron Works might have been ever better. Oh well. At least we can build it now.

Research continued apace. Damascus is building the SS Engine (the big part). Once the current tech finishes (at end of first real turn), Rome should build the last part. They'll finish close to the same time. Move 'em to Paris and we win.

I moved a few pieces in.... getting messages like ...

Repeat that a few more times and you get a feel for the "excitement" of this turnset.

Corbeau, you can finish if you like. If not, ThERat can. Mostly just a matter of pressing "Enter", I believe. I probably could have done it, but it is an SG after all. Please post the final save before victory, though, so we can get it into our Hall of "Fame".
