Welcome New Members

Greetings fellow seekers of Global Domination

I'm a long time player of computer games in general, but Civ is one of my all time favorite franchises. I picked up the original game the day it was released (I was working for an EB games store at the time and knew about it a short time before it shipped). From the moment I laid eyes on the box and read the details, I knew right then and there I held in my hands what was destined to be a fantastic game. I could never have imagined exactly HOW fantastic, although looking back, it's really no surprise to me now.

I think we all can imagine we're about to embark on a gaming journey of truly epic proportions. Civ IV takes this classic masterpiece and shapes it with all the modern high tech tools of a hollywood movie production. The downside of course is that I'm not likely to get much else done in my spare time for a good while (Civanon may in fact be needed to save my sanity :help: )... but hey... at least I'll have one hell of a good time down my road to ruin :p

On a side note... I assume this site will be a great place to hook up for multi player? Are there any plans on setting up something here to regulate this? (i.e. tournaments, ranking ladder, etc)

Welcome! :goodjob: Yeah, there will be some people here for multiplayer (play by email or online turn based play). There will be no tournament or ladder I don't think, but there will be a MP forum where people can find opponents, host informal tournaments if they want, or just talk about MP.

Hello,
Have been looking at this site for a while now, but only signed up when the civ 4 discussions heated up. Although I'm really looking forward to Civ 4, its a bit of a shame that I've only just recently started to master Civ 3, but oh well. Been playing indifferently since civ 2.

Wellcome fellow civers!

Hey, played Civ III for a long time, till I had to re-install everything after a virus.
I found that my CD's had fallen behind my shelf and were now warped. I spent time playing other games, lately I have been playing Knights of Honor. When I heard Civ IV was due I saved my pennies and just pre-ordered. I suppose the Incans will be my first choice as I fell in love with them in III.
i also love the longer/larger games. Am looking forward to the new improvements - some of which seem to address the few frustrations Civ III had. Can't wait.

I Have been a civer since the First Civilization came out, so long ago. Over the last few years, have not had much time to play, real life getting in the way. I love SMAC, and the civics options, and I am looking forward to the new CIV IV. I really hated the combat system in CivIII. I much prefered the battles in Civ CTP where the stack attacked as a group, kinda like an entire army, with artillery softening up the openets first. Still have not got this system in IV, but I hope the battle system is much improved over III.

Ever since the good ol' days of inter-house civ2 Lan games with my brothers, i've stayed atleast somewhat involved with the world of civilization. I'm a 17 year old musician and I have a girlfriend who i'm trying to push civ4 onto once it's released :p. I'm currently fretting about how i'm gonna get the game as soon as possible while living in canada.. What with all the rumors flying around. But I will ask around about that in a different thread. Happy turns.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but not new to Civ, started way back with CivII and then played the death out of CivIII. I made the drastic decision to sell my CivIII games about three months ago to really work up my apetite for CivIV, the hunger has been painful, of famine proportions (buy also to make my friends and family think I'm on the Civanon programme). I'm hoping the new game will be released here in the UK on the 28th October, although various retail sites state dates ranging from 21st October (I wish) to mid November. If it's anytime after the 28th I'm booking a flight to the states to pick up my copy ;)

Hey everyone Im Kyle from Canada Im 17.
I did not know about the new civ4 comin out untill someone on another forum mentioned something about it and that night I whent out and preordered it from EB lol. I first got into it all with civ2 and been hooked ever since. :D

Hi! Whay did I join the CFC? It is simple reason-I really liked playing Civ II (I bought it 10 years ago and was my first PC game that I played a lot and I must say, it was fun), I also played Civ III and I will play Civ IV and since Civ 4 is all about multiplayer it is good to meet other people and shere information, therefor CFC is perfect place for that.
BTW why there is no Civ IV DEMO?
P.S. I hope I did not steal someone avatar

Heh heh, rest assured you'll find many more with that same avatar. In a month you can upload a personal one. Oh, and welcome!

Hey! wondered why civ4 is only being shipped on the 4th Nov here in the U.K?
After being told it was released on the 28th originally, waiting another week is gonna kill me!

...but not Civ games. I originally came to the Civ series after playing the similar Colonization game. That game was never updated as operating systems evolved and I moved on to Civ II and then quickly to Civ III; after all the principles of the Colonization game were included in Civ.

Only found out today about IV coming along and have ordered it already.

Guess I spend free time playing Civ III instead of checking out the forums although from the lock of it I could have found out a lot about Civ III here rather than from experience. Experiencing and learning from the game of course has great educational and entertainment value too.

I look forward to the conversation available here once we all get the game and start to truly pick it apart.

I'm not actually newbie, I was posting here some time ago when Civ3 was released, but then I lost interest in this site...From time to time I came back to download some new units etc., but I forgot my password and user name.
I'm 27 old and I have experience with Civ2 and Civ3. I have some feeling that Civ4 won't be dissapointment but great step forward!

Hi Everyone!! I'm new to this site, but not civ. I own all the civs and love them. I'm 34 and live in Dallas. My screen name is the same as what I'm always telling my wife, "I'll be there in a minute, ONE MORE TURN!!"

Hi, I have been playing the civ series for most of my life. I got civ 2 for Christmas when it first came out and have been playing ever since. I thought civ 3 was fairly dissapointing in that it lost some of the great gameplay that made civ 2 so interesting (But the expansions helped!). I see, though, that civ 4 is drawing both on the older versions and some new ideas, so I have high hopes that it will be a fantastic game.

I noticed when I came here that many people like to play on standard sized maps. I always played on the biggest possible map with the largest possible number of opponents, so my experience with the game has probably been a lot different than most.
