We could probabely capture and keep one city, move our trebs in and upgrade them to cannons so we don't have to move them back. We then can move our units out again and let fred recapture it. With cannons, we'll be safe in attacking (strong) stalin.
Taking a city goes against the variant, does it not? That would make 7. Even if it's for a turn or 2, I don't think we should.
BTW I had some moments of bewilderment while playing: I suddently lost OB with all civs - most have reopened the borders by now but shaka hasn't. Once he does, you can use the missionaries to spread judaism in his cities. WTH were they doing, moving to rheims? Fred is at war with us, we can't convert him!

just is in theo but shaka isn't. no big deal though. BTW some new units are on goto rheims. I also didn't bother removing them... :p

IIRC its the bug where the AI still accepts ressis they have - for a low price but still. I think it is fixed by bhuric's patch. It has nothing to do with BUG afaik :D

Kill Fred, destroy his cities. That's one option. Another option is peace with Fred then declare on Joe. It'll be easier to destroy Joe with Fred's help then turn on Fred than it will be to destroy Fred with Joe's help then turn on Joe.

Don't fully understand what you mean tbh.

We need to win conquest. One way is to attack Just > shaka > stalin > fred.
The other way is fred > stalin > shaka > just.
If we go way 1, just will be no more quickly (he lacks or lacked several important techs for quite some time and doesn't have many cities. Shaka will cause some trouble, and stalin probabely even more after that. Fred will be mob up. Problem is, if fred & stalin make peace, fred is likely to turn on us (we DOWd him), esp if our army is on the other side of the world.
OTOH we can kill fred first. I don't think he'll be that hard to crack - he's been fighting for quite some time now. Next is stalin who will put up a fight I expect. That's why I was hoping to bribe shaka vs stalin (which failed) but shaka will DOW stalin on his own probabely (different religion and close borders). We can kill him when we get cannons. After stalin, we'll have many experienced units (CR-rifles) and cannons so shaka should be quite easy. Justinian as well of course.

Either way, we must be careful with vassalizing. There will be lots of land to backfill for the AI and we must win via conquest, not DOM!
 
We're told that Germany is the most powerful civ. We're at war with the most powerful civ!:eek: Excellent :goodjob:.

After one turn the golden age ends, we're already in theocracy and start pumping out units. However its not long before cities hit their health caps and grocers/aqueducts are lined up.

I also notice that we're heading towards a whole bunch of wars of annihilation and we don't have any happy boosters, a few colliseums get added to the mix. We'll need to pick up drama and build some theatres in the not remote future.

In 1440 we get a Great Person - its another Scientist!

In 1450 we get economics and a free Great Merchant. Someone advised sending him to ToA city which in this game at least is Moscow - so off he heads. He then discovers that there are some German cities in the way and so he's wandering around in some perplexity.

On the other hand Shaka finally decided to open borders in 1480. A couple of JMs completed their missions (succesfully). Could send GM to Ulundi.

In 1500 we get Liberalism and Rifling. Burn a GS on most of chemistry. The only problem is that we're skint and can't affford any upgrades.

We have a small bunch of units facing the most powerful civilisation in the world:


The city's got a couple of LBs, couple of XBs, maces and swords and the such. No seige. 45% defence.

We've got a spare GS in Thebes. We could burn him on the rest of chemistry and turn cash slider to 100% for a few turns to raise some upgrade funds.
 
Did you run merchants or scientists in thebes? The idea was to get 2 GMs one per eco and one self-generated to afford the upgrades. Too bad the first GP was a GS. I think we should wait for rifle-upgrades before going on a rampage.
 
All specialists were merchants. Ended up 70% GM, 20%GS, 10% other stuff. We got a GS, 7 times out of 10 we'd have got a GM but this time we got a GS.
 
Ah ok, it was more to remind... the next player :D

As I mentionned above, I don't think we should move our units out of our land as we can't upgrade them anymore since we can't take a city (even for one turn). Better not waste those hammers already invested in trebs and maces.
BTW keep im mind that knights have flanking vs trebs but not vs cannons.

Well a fun little turnset and hopefully the next player will enjoy their new toys!!

Research was obvious Chemistry to Steel and finishing the set at Steel as that seemed a good place.

Did this trade at the start as I like to have Theatres for tackling WW

Other than that the key thing was to be ready to Upgrade troops from the Trade Mission and not to waste the Trebs etc we had built if at all possible.

Initially advance into Germany was fine

but after that was slow due to the fact that Frederick had intelligently been building lots of Crossbowmen who are Tricky for our Maces to Handle.

On the other hand not sure why Fred is sending this stack towards Stalin???


So Trade Mission was completed giving us our Upgrade Cash.

The next GP was as expected a Merchant and as we had sufficient Upgrade Cash I burnt him and the Spare GS on a GA which also means we can switch into Nationalism if we desire for free. Haven’t yet unlocked Globe at Thebes but wouldn’t take long turning it into a Monster draft city (needs a barracks as well if we are going Nationalism).



WW is Manageable at the moment just about using Garrisons.

We have no finally battered down the defences so can Raze Hanover followed quickly by Bremen


And we are ready to attack Staling if we fancy frothing at the mouth (not stack has a super medic already).



And in fact I was feeling so aggressive we have started building another army for Justinian, just needs a few cannons and it is ready to roll.

I didn't look at the save so not sure. We might be able to build 1-2 stacks (to take on Just) while finishing off fred and killing stalin. Then we can attack shaka from both sides of his empire :cooool:

Up to Sweetachson as both plans work.

The combat Engineers have been at work (roading) so the Cannon + Rifle Stack can either go after Stalin or Fred. My thoughts were seeing if Fred would Vassalise after Hanover, Bremen + another were Razed leaving us to pound Stalin. Definitely think we will have enough in 10 turns to start a second / third front versus Justinian.

In theme terms our little corporal wouldn't have been able to resist overstretching himself with a march on Moscow!!

I was having fun, and lost in battle, but it turns out I played 10 turns anyway. :cool: Must be my internal clock. The reason I stopped was that Fred is ready to capitulate, if we want it, but we stand outside the confu holy city, with 1 injured xbow left (I was 1 unit short), so we should probably raze it first.

The medieval army took Hanover quite easily, and regrouped for a shot at Bremen, suffering a prolonged xbow counter attack and losing 2 rifles :rolleyes: It appears that after Fred got peace with Stalin, he put all his troops in there. Anyway, eventually the rifle army caught up and Bremen fell after a long siege. The rifle army continued north to Germany, while the medieval army is healing and just about ready to stab Stalin's southern cities (near our border), while the rifle army can turn west and head to Moscow.

Another army is rallying on our eastern border for use on Just, or Shaka, I guess (who now has MS/grens), and while I switched into Nat during the GA, I haven't drafted yet. WW is a massive issue in the last 2ish turns, but I didn't raise the culture slider :smoke: Anyway, peace with Fred should fix that problem. I started on steam>rail,, just because we have so much distance to cover, but is it worth it? Anyway, some cav has been started which can get pillaging on the stuff the army has missed for extra cash. The is also a small contingent gathering near Thebes.

I added pics for an intelligence shot of Moscow and the 3 armies, and of course, power.
