Rat44 CCM - Ultimate Challenge

We can do this without sending gpt to the Greeks and losing our ability to attack them for twenty turns. First we trade for PP, of course, sending away gpt and possibly our third source of furs. Then we get whatever gold we need to top up the deal with the Greeks by buying it for gpt from the wealthy French.

The harder question is, should we make the purchase of PP from some nation with which we aren't really involved yet, or from the Japanese, so that we'll get a windfall if they sneak-attack us? Since the Japanese are broke and the 200 gpt or so would help them too much, I'd choose a neutral trading partner, but it could be argued either way.

If there's any chance of getting two of the Greeks' techs for PP, Sacred Art is the one we don't want.

I don't know if this will be relevant in Greebley's round, but for future reference, despite appearances Piraeus can be attacked without a river crossing from the tiles N, NW, and W of the city.

I wouldn't mind a deal with Greece, I think sooner or later they would attack anyway.

A round or two of infrastructure built-up is also fine, but I prefer that to come after the Greek have been eliminated. I am not too sure whether we can do sustainable self research at this moment.

Best is of course to go with NP's suggestion

I don't think we'd have a chance. We've established that we need a great many fully developed cities for an acceptable self-research rate in deity CCM, and that was in games with much more gold in circulation than is the case here. Right now we have our very small core of native cities and one fully integrated conquered nation--we're not even close.

Doesn't seem like much of a challenge to this lurker so far. Already rolled several civs over. ;)

LK, what sort of cliffhanger would you like to see? :D

One Built City, perchance?

I was going to play when I realized there is a 2 for 1 deal. Greece doesn't have printing press.
The Greeks don't have any money either. Yuk Yuk
:Lurker: :crazyeye:

Bring back my world map, deity, starting in Europe! Good luck building city #2 ;)

Russia was torture in that respect - go further into Europe ;)

Preturn:
Bought Printing Press for 200 gpt and 50 gold from Spain.
We get Navigation Renaissance and 280 gold from Greece for Printing press.

1420 AD: Missionary attacks worker and we get a much wanted Monk. With a monk we can expand the border and get Saltpeter right away. Otherwise we would have to wait until Thelosia fell which is 3 turns away with a speed 2 unit and all the hills.

1430-1440 AD Move troops South except for Pikes to guard Mongolian cities.
1450 AD: Got another Monk
1470 AD: And another Monk. I am waiting for the settler and the other units to reach the Greek Front.
The Settler is kind of slow but then some of the Knights aren't there either.
1480 AD: Westminster Palace built.
1490 AD: Settler in right place.
1500 AD: Built the town and moved up the Knights. We are ready to attack next turn so I will stop here.

Notes:
I was kind of out of it so the play wasn't really up to par. I was miscounting happy/sad people. I wish civ assist 2 still worked on my computer.

I built the town to get to the Saltpeter right away.

Again we can trade with Greece who has naval guns but not university. I think we
should do this like we did before and then attack.

We also may have money to investigate cities if we want. Need to get embassy for that.

The picture shows two forces poised to take Greek cities next turn.

The Roster:
ThERat -
Northern Pike
Greebley
Elephantium - up
CommandoBob - on deck

Maybe we can get more trades, we got quite a bit of cash now for that :D
Looking forward to the Greek slaughter

Good work accumulating monks. :goodjob:

One sticky point I thought of.

There isn't a road under the stack to the right and there isn't quite enough workers in the area to road it one turn. It might be annoying if you can't have your knights cross to Piriaus.

The workers are under the MDI next to the missionary of Greece. They take 2 turns to finish a road.

There are others near the MDI near Montreal. I think if they move they would take 2 turns to get there.

So your choice if you want to attack before we get the road, but it might be nice to have enough workers to connect Piraeus the same turn we attack so we have instant ability to upgrade some pikes.

keeping cash for pike upgrade is reasonable as well.

Normally, I would have arranged all of this ahead of time and brought enough over to handle this, but as I mentioned in the report, I was not playing at top form.

We built infrastructure rather than military during Greebley's round, and we can see the benefit of that choice in our finances. It does mean, though, that we have very light forces along the Greek border for the intensity of fighting we can expect; after all, we were weak relative to Greece even ten turns ago when we stopped building units. I wouldn't recommend attacking for at least five turns, when Washington and Philadelphia will have produced another ten knights and a lot of other places will have finished their infra projects and can turn to military production. If Elephantium doesn't care to attack at all during his round, that would be a reasonable decision too.

This will also give us time to get a full one-turn roading stack to our spearhead at Piraeus, as Greebley recommends.

Yes, of course.

CommadoBob, can you swap with Elephantium?

Yes, I think so.

I will download CCM onto the other, slower, desktop this evening and get a Strategy post up this evening/early morning. I need to get a new power supply for my PC, but I cannot do that until Thursday evening.

Mrs. CommandoBob won't let me load Civ onto her one-year-old laptop. Porn on that laptop:  :trouble:; Civ 3: :trouble: :trouble: and I start singing soprano.

No, I don't think I'll be able to swap. At least not at the moment. More stuff going on than what I expected. Sorry.

Ok, no worries, I can take over then and afterwards we'll see whether to go back to Elephantium or continue with NP
