Hi:

I have 3 newbie questions.

First, how does Mandate of Heaven policy (50% excess happiness turn into culture) work? Lets say there's 10 happiness in my civ right now. Does that mean I get 5 cultural points from the 10 happiness once I unlock Mandate of Heaven?

Second, what happens when I build improvements on resources that are outside of any city radius but within my empire boarder?

Third, the freedom policy reduces the unhappiness produced from specialists by 50%. I am not exactly sure what this means or how it works. The way I interpret it, the existence of specialists will itself create unhappiness, and this freedom policy simply reduces the amount of unhappiness by specialists? Or is it that specialists will reduce the amount of unhappiness already in existence by 50% (doesn't seem likely as that is too powerful)?

Thanks for any help

1. I'm not sure myself...

2. It's impossible for a resource to be within your borders and outside of any of your cities' radius. It's by being within some one of your city's radius that the resource will get into your borders.

3. Each extra point of population increases unhappiness, even if they are turned into specialists. This policy makes it so that only half of that unhappiness is created.

1. Yes, that exactly how it works. You get half of your happniess as culture (after you unlock it). If you're running an excess of happiness (say a few, or just one, city, with a ot of luxuries) it can add up to quite a bit over time.

2. Do you mean within your borders (as in you own the tile) but outside he radius you can work (you can work tiles up to three away, but your borders can expand up to 5)? If so, those tiles aren't 'worked", that is they don't add production/gold/food to your city. But any resources on them (horses/iron/luxuries) get added to your totals (after you build the improvements).

3. Each citizen in a city produces unhappiness (generally 1 point). If you make them work as a specialist, they still produce that same point of unhappiness. But having freedom reduces that point in half, making a city with several specialists generate less unhappiness than one that is using all of the people to work tiles. (As an example, a city with 10 population has 10 unhappiness. If you make two of the citizens work as specialists, freeom would cause you to only have 9 unhappiness.)

2. It is absolutely possible to have a resource inside national borders, but outside any city radius. If you develop the resourse, it becomes part of your resource pool. For instance, in my last game I had an oil well and a marble quarry which were out in the middle of a desert that I had not planted a city in, but it belonged to me. No city could reach it. I sent workers to develop them and got the marble and oil for unit support and trade.

does the road disappear when you build a railroad on top of it...? or do you need to delete it first so it doesnt cost 3 gold per turn...

MOD...thanks for placing my thread in the right place.. :)

Yes, the road disappears when you build a rail on top of it, and it will remove the old gpt cost of the road.

I built a nuclear missile and had no immediate use for it, so I put it to sleep in a city. Now I want to use it and I can't find it! I checked my military advisor and the unit still exists but I have no way of locating it! Anyone know how I might locate and activate my nuke?

*Edit* I figured it out. In the Info Panel at the top left corner there is a unit list and I was able to select it there! =)

The alternative would be to scan the map and look for the little '1' above one of your cities. Clicking on it will activate a little menu where you can select the nuke.

Also, welcome to the forums. :wavey:

I asked this before but didnt get an answer about the PRODUCTION(hammer) bonus for cities connected by railroads as opposed to regular roads...and do they need to be connected to the capital for the bonus or just one to another...?

it says in the civilopedia(help) that you get a production bonus...so dont say you dont...

50% production bonus. Post patch it will be 25%. This connection needs to be to the capital, although it can go over water via harbours.

Hi guys. I just started playing Civ 5 again. It has been a few months. I am having a small issue though and cannot find info on it. I was playing last night and everything was fine, then this moring I purchased the Americas DLC and since then when I select a unit, I have to hit 'M' to go to move mode or 'CTRL-A' to attack, etc. Last night (and ever since i bought the game) when you select a unit you don't have to hit these hotkeys, whatever you click on, the unit does the appropriate action. I checked the option menus and couldnt find anything. I am sure it is something simple, but unable to find it, I come here to ask.

Thanks for any info! :)

Question: When two cities share a workable tile, who gets to work it? I don't usually want to specify every worked tile by hand, but sometimes I really want CityA to have a tile rather than CityB. Can I specify to save that tile for CityA, and leave the rest of the tiles to be chosen by the computer for me?

I don't understand what you're saying. :dunno:

I'm no expert on ancient/mideval clothing, but I don't get an Arab feeling when looking at Darius. He looks Persian to me, but If I rember correctly, he doesn't speak correct Farsi in the game. Then again, if they can't even get the English speaking leaders right (with Washington sounding like Clinton. Because that's toally how the accent was back then.), I don't think they care.

4:why you dont add israel to game?

I do to! However, many of the Arab, countires, especially Palestine, don't! Also, there's a debate in which it should represent the ancient kingdom or the modern state (I personally think the latter). It's better to leave it out than to deal with the problems adding it in.

5: please add more kings of persia in the game.
Khosro Parviz. Cyrus. Xerxes ...

All civs in this game have one ruler.

6: please name the new civilizations that you added.

Don't understand this one either.

Yeah, just go into the city screen and into citizen management, and then click on the circle above the applicable tile. So if City A has a tile you want City B to work, then go to City B and open citizen management, and click on that tile. You can then lock that tile onto being worked by clicking it again (or until it's green; I've forgotten how many clicks that is). All tiles that are not 'locked' will be chosen by the computer.
