and goes first...or so they say

Spoiler :

Just imagine what the rest of the map looks like. This must be a garden spot in comparison!

Hmm,

Step 1: Settle one spot to the right
Step 2: Realize that until your population grows a lot, this spot isn't bad. 3 whales, a fish, and 2 deer for your first 6 population to work. That's probably why the game chose Venice for this spot, because of the abundance of resources, even if the snow desert and tundra sucks.
Step 3: Realize that this spot would actually be pretty awesome as the Aztecs. Too bad lakes are kind of bad when you aren't that civilization.
Step 4: Be sad that you aren't the Aztecs, and fall behind over the later portions of the game until your specialist/trade route bonuses kick in.

or just press esc , restart the game :)
But I do regret not having check the rest of the map.

Are u even allowed to start on snow.. i have never started on snow after playing 1000 hours

God of the Sea. Once you ship some food and or hammers to Venice you should be OK.

I would play it for a lark if it was standard/standard.

What most sucks about this location for Venice is that you are on the south side of a continent/island facing the South Pole. Meaning that your cargo ships have to move around the land behind you to reach any trading targets and there will only be a few within reach until you get to Compass. Having 6 trade routes early on isn't much use if you can only use 2.

Times like that that you wish they had some bonuses for lakes, not just for the Aztecs.

Yeah well it was actually my wife s game and she plays immortal/large or very large maps...but not large enough to find an actual spot apparently:)
In retrospect , I kinda wish I had taken this save to actually play it ..oh well...
