Deity Challenge #35 - Greece, Boreal.

There is a mountain map script somewhere??
Each time i try to play as Incas i end up re-rolling dozens before i can see more than a single peak nearby, even thought i often start near large mountain ranges on Pangea with other civs. :badcomp:

yes and this moutain map type is customizable with type of mountain chain, etc, really flexible.
the next map I play is Moutain, I have a save from a start I want to play (i already play it 20 turn, and i'm sure i want to play it to the end.)

It's not the place, but :

Hills everywhere, small moutain everywhere. 1 close friend (or target) and a faith Natural wonder close. I really want to play this one. (as I usually do, one more IA than standard, the rest is default.)

save if someone want it.

Highlands map has lots of mountains. If you want much hills and mountains you can also set world age to 3 billion.

Incas and terrace farms! I'm in! Gonna play it once I have time. You should make a new thread for this challenge.
Please warn me if raging barbs are on :p

last time raging barb wasnt on, just the map type that make more barb than usual.

I make a thread for this one why not after all.
I just try the GOTM 70 and failed miserably to get the religion i wanted and cowardly quit before turn 100. so i will play this moutins map too.

Won an easy Science Victory on this one. Start is great for it, lot of plains + water, lot of mountains for observatory.

T270 SV

Spoiler :

Got NC around T90, Edu T112 then went observatory. I was 1st in tech around T160. Missed the Oracle by 1 turn to Sejong, was pretty pissed about it. Got Pisa, Porcelain, Hubble and some other End Game Wonders since I could make them in 10Turns and was so far ahead in tech:

Spoiler :

Maybe I can go faster with better feeding with caravans, but hapiness was a problem at some stages anyway., there's only one Happiness CS and luxs are very scarce. However there's a ton of Culture CS allowing for a lot of policies, making Rationalism very quickly to complete and even allowing to grab commerce. Maybe I should also learn to produce Science more at the right times. I should also have built more faith so that I could buy an engineer at the end to rush the last part and win 4 turns. But hey, still learning :)
Went Traditon (3), Honor Opener, Tradition Finish, Commerce (2) Rationalism (5) Order(3) Rationalism Finish Order (7 or 8).

I also tried to do the map via Domination but while I had good Artillery timings (T175) and good policies, the map was so annoying to get through that I was progressing way to slowly to make it happen (its big, cities are far from each other, and going west from the start area is a pain). So when by T240 I had only killed Egypt and Sweden and my bombers couldn't reach Rome's cities I gave up. If I had to do it again I'd probably delay my conquest more and wait for factory + Hydro plants to be able to pump units very fast. The map is so full of rivers that it boosts production like crazy.

May try culture but I'm a bit inexperienced at it :/

It's a decent map to practice culture in that it's neither trivial by petra/god cap start but has no real warmongering threat management needed. It also has a strong faith yield potential for late game GMs and possibly 1-2 GEs for wonders.

However, as I mentioned, anything that slows science, in this case, poor food from tundra, increases the difficulty. So does the oversized landmass/#civ ratio and so does the nad rng over CS distribution (5 culture CS out of 15 is really brutal for CV as almost every AI compounds from each).

So anyway, it depends on your patience and playtime whether it's a good place to start CV. I had fun, it was my most challenging CV map to date. Usually, it's either trivial by early/mid renaissance or already out of reach. Here I couldn't quite tell until I won the Intl Games. I would probably have managed it without intl games but I would've had to spam next turn at least another 25 turns.

I'll see. Maybe I'll just wait #36, I'm a bit fed up by this map having played it twice to 250+ already -.-. Depends whether or not #36 comes fast (maybe do it with beta patch ?)

Anyway, while I'm okay with lot of tundra and the tiles, I was really annoyed by the fact its a whole land map without water to reduce its size, and that it was not round. There was room for at least 2 other AI in there lol.

Spoiler :

Hard built 2 settlers at pop 6 and bought one when I got 500g.

SP: full tradition + honor opener (opened honor after LE) - pat open. will get consulates and secularism and see what to get next.

SV or DV will be really easy. As Moriarte suggested, I will go for CV for some challenge.

It's good to see that most of the player put almost the same city placement. (for 4 city trad)

Argos is the only one that we dont put it all in the same place. I put it exactly at the same spot as Glory7 and it was a pain to grow (I farm all the river-hills) but i work the +2 science before university and other specialist slot.

Turns 0-198

Spoiler :
I was kinda bored and waiting for the new challenges to come up and decided to bring this one back from the grave. It seems the people who are going to play this one have played it and it is over. So maybe someone will see my game and decide to give this one a try as well. It is a tough map for me and I decided to make it harder on myself by going Liberty instead of Tradition which is easier for me.

Long story short I basically went with a 4 city Liberty approach. I did open up Honor after I realized it was Raging Barbs lol. I read that at the start but just plain forgot till I seen alot of barbs taking down my Capital. Hey thanks to the OP for this game, I got the achievement of "He threw a car at my head!" I've always wondered if that was a possible one to get. It seems the Barbs would of taken my Capital to end the game but I guess that is not possible so I got the achievement and continue to play!

Full Liberty and use of the GE for the NC at around turn 98. Also I am 3 deep into Honor. I decided that Egypt would be the easiest to take down. That thought changed after it took me almost 100 turns to take Thebes. Im not very good at this game so I was happy that I actually got it and they gave me peace right after. It was alot of work for me chewing through about 20 War Chariots and what not. I think if I wouldn't of messed about with secondary city and just went to the Capital it might of been easier. I planted 3 Citadels during the war and have 1 GG left still.

I have 2 CS's allies and my game is where it is at now at turn 198. Im about 10% behind Korea and I have 3 RAs in the works as Im building the PT. If I get it, it will be very late around turn 220! I wanted to win via Diplo VC since that is Greece's strong suit (IMO), even though the post suggests Dom/Cult but it also says if you like, you may play for the other VC's as well.

Nothing wrong with raising the dead :) This one was kind of interesting. The celt one after that was pretty cool too.

That looks like it is going to be tough to pull out any kind of victory in your current situation. I've never been good at liberty either so I feel your pain. If you are aiming for a diplomatic victory you had better meet more CS asap. You have barely discovered 1/3 of the map at turn 198. If the game drags on too long Korea or Babylon can sneak in a SV. I've been beat by a runaway Korea on turn 260 before while trying for a DiploV :(

Anything is possible though. My Sweden diplo victory that I submitted to the HoF I got off to a rough start and could only get 3 cities up. Played through it though just to see what I could pull off and just missed a turn 278 DV by 1 vote, had to wait till turn 300. But I had a lot of GP to use for influence and 90 influence is worth 1k gold so once I got those rolling it snowballed.

LOL Teqofc... NO DOUBT!!

This game will be very difficult, no doubt! I could of done it easy with Tradition and what not but sometimes I like doing all the wrong things to see if I can still win. I have made games like this go very close to turn 400. Im putting all the AI at war now to slow them down. I have been scouting with a knight and found 11 of the CS's so you know maybe I can get there. If I can win this game it will be with the lowest amount of population for me ever! I've lost and won games like this though so I figure I have about a 50-50 chance right now. Im currently at turn 248 with 8% behind in tech and my gold is pretty much nothing. Ill see if I can turn it around soon. About the scouting... ya ya I know Im lazy and I never feel rushed in this game. I figure I can get it done later and still win :) !

Edit: I think the key to keeping Korea and Babylon from an early launch is keeping them at war. I pay alot of dough to keep all the AI fighting each other which really slows them down. Also this map is pretty low food and hard for the AI to grow to tech faster. It seems in the new BNW it is not easy for the AI to win before turn 325 or later. I used to see alot of 260-300 wins by the AI back in G&K but that seems to have changed. It would be nice if they made the AI win faster like around turn 275-280 but that is not the way the game is now so you know if they decide to change it and make it harder I will adjust my gameplay.

Turns 199-287
Spoiler :

I slowed down and tried to tech up. I put two knights with all open borders and scouted out 15 of the 16 CS's. I can't seem to find the last one, maybe it was taken over by the AI. Im 7% behind the leader in tech but it is fairly even since I have some cheaper techs still. I've had some loan gold but even if my gpt was max it would be tough to get all these CS's. Ofcourse using spies to help. I usually don't need to worry about any launch till AI is at least 94%, currently they are at 76%. It is going to be a very tight fit for a DV but I think I still can achieve this. Anyway, fun to try and it is fun to basically do whatever you want and win or come very close to winning even under +600spt.

Turns 288-323

Spoiler :
So I never got to +600spt ... the highest I think I had was +576spt or so. I just think it is funny that you pretty much can do whatever the flip you want on Deity and still win. It wasn't easy I had to get a little crafty but since the AI seems to be unable to tech fast enough in the new BNW you have plenty of time to win. So I beelined Globalization with GS's and RA's and the little science I had. I put my 5 Diplomats into all the Civs I could. I got conned into a war with Siam and I figured it would help keep him busy and he was too far to care about me. I figured he would give me peace down the road. It was tough getting peace since he wanted 3 of my 5 cities. I planned out when to make peace with him but first I sold Thebes to Rome for 3000 gold. I had about 3000 myself and after some loans I had my gold over 8000. I had all the CS's that were on the map except for 2 that Siam had since the war. It seems I could not find the 16th CS and only 13 were still alive out of the 15 I found. So 2 turns before the 2nd WL vote I gave up my 2 cities to Siam for peace and that leaves me with my Cap and Sparta which is more than enough. I used my gold to take over his 2 CS's which cost me 4000 and I had 4000 to spread around before the vote and ofcourse the AI doesn't like to use gold for blocking WL win so I got the DV on turn 323. I also sold most of my science buildings to get some more gold as well. You might think it is a cheesy way to win and thats ok with me. Rome only had 86% tech to my 78% so no worries of a launch. I might of even been able to wait for the 3rd WL vote. Almost all the Civs went Order so I went Order and made Order the World Ideology ofcourse. I did not need Forbidden Palace or World Religion. I would much rather of went Tradition but I wanted to try to Warmonger but my lack of skill and taking 100 turns to get Eqypts Capital foiled any of those plans. Last resort was either Science or Diplo and since it is Greece I opted for Diplo. (5 in a row now with a Deity Record on Civfanatics Site 5-3) Looking forward to the #2 Deity Challenge comming up and thanks again to Moriarte for this odd and difficult map!

Once again to any players that have trouble with Deity... keep trying it really isn't very hard to win on Deity if you do just some things right. If you want to win by the fastest turn time possible you will have to play a more precise game but if you just like to relax and still win you can easily do it!
