I need a beginners guide for my friend.

What? It's for my friend! Don't look at me like that

Ok look, just link me to a beginners guide, something with pictures and well layed out (i.e not a text FAQ), and be on your merry way.

There isn't really a beginners guide - that's the joy of civ. Every game is different. One strategy here might not work there (except for the classic swordmen rush).

Try reading the articles here though, for some good strategies.

I mean a guide to the basic fundamentals for someone who wouldn't even know what Iron and Swordsman are or how they relate.

Perhaps the manual that comes with the game? (It should be on the CD, as well.)

I think there are some downloadable guides with pretty pictures and very basic how-tos in the war academy, linked above in Ginger Ale's post.

Don't forget the good ol' War Academy here on CFC. That's been particularly helpful to me.

UPDATE: I need to read the previous post...sigh
