XDaemon.dll

Hi there!

I welcome myself to the thread!

I wonder if anyone could possibly help my my quandry?

I've tried civ2 gold (orginal bought, not copy) and ive tried it both vanilla, and with the update.
ive tried it on XP Pro SP1, and win98se
ive tried it with, and without, zonealarm enabled
ive tried it with, and without, nortonvirus enabled

everytime, on either os, i get a complaint about not being able to find xdaemon.dll as soon as i doubleclick on civ2.exe

ive found nothing on the web anywhere relating to this file, the closest i could find was xdaemon.exe which suggested a virus! a full system sweep on all drives, in both safe modes, came up empty.

any ideas please anyone?!
