Sorry for the double post, but here is a map of Auronas with north as north.

Spoiler :

Nice, good to know that my visioned Kingdom might be a little bit more frozen in the game :p

Gonna have to edit my kingdom application in response to Arrow gamer's post :S

Seems I don't have the time needed to come up with a nice original starting nation. Gonna have to drop from this. Sorry.

Is the pearl guild a proper guild or a noble house?

Name/Player Name: Kingdom of Zakijaya/SouthernKing

Ruler/Family: House Jana
-Queen Raya II (Reigning Monarch; 36)
-Prince Penthar (Husband; 39)
-Princess Raya (Daughter/heir apparent; 17)
-Prince Lemmik (Son; 13)
-Princess Hendar (Daughter; 7)
-Prince Eddar (Son; 2)
-Princess Kalvara (Daughter; 2)

House Jana's demesne mainly consists of the land including and surrounding the city of Thakran, roughly in the center to south-center of the kingdom.

Location: North of and including the lake along that river south of where Bair is

Vassals:

There are four so-called "Great Houses" in Zakijaya, the four major ones who formed the backbone of the kingdom's formative rebellion, and who have lasted in positions of power in the decades since then. One is the ruling House Jaya, and the other three are:
-House Davik: Hold the south, including Lothara. Holding Lothara and its sizable tax base makes the house filthy rich, even when taxes are low, and by some estimates, wealthier than the ruling House Jaya. Understandably, this causes no shortage of concern for House Jaya. House Davik is, to some degree, not a noble house in the traditional sense; their ancestors were ultrawealthy merchants who managed to gain some degree of control over land, and thus solidly worm their way into the Zaki aristocracy by independence. Initially close allies with Queen Salrana I, over the decades disputes and power struggles have led to falling out into a much cooler relationship. The main block between House Davik and an attempt is the other two Great Houses' loyalty to House Jaya and Queen Raya II.
-House Hendryk: Hold the north-center of the kingdom. House Hendryk is by some accounts the oldest house of the four, having been the rulers of a pre-Telaaran city-state in the Sami Valley that allied with the invaders, and then turned against them and allied with Queen Salrana I when things started going bad.
-House Payala: Hold the north of the kingdom. This house evolved from a warrior clan that managed to gain land during the chaotic early Telaaran era, and morphed into a proper house. They became allies of Queen Salrana I during the rebellion.

Kingdom Biography:

The Zaki are those people of the North who have seemingly lived in their homes in the valley of their river, the Sami, since the dawn of time. Some suggest they migrated here from elsewhere, but whatever the case this is where the Zaki have been for millennia. At various times the Sami Valley has been a collection of city-states, a loose union, subjugated to foreigners, or - as is the present case - a single, independent kingdom.

Some three hundred years ago, the Sami valley was conquered by the expanding Telaarans from the north over the span of five years, through shrewd exploitation of political divisions between the collection of warring petty states that then controlled the land. Two centuries of Telaaran rule, including numerous revolts and abortive attempts by powerful regional lords to assert independence, followed. Despite great Telaaran influence, the area maintained its separate cultural identity, and a few Zaki, mostly merchants and landowners, prospered under Telaaran rule.

Ultimately, approximately a century ago, a lengthy period of Telaaran internal strife combined with the rise of a new, ambitious, and influential Zaki aristocracy under Telaaran rule, meant that Telaaran grip over the Sami Valley was loosening. The spark came when one of the aforementioned landowners, a man by the name of Hendar Jana was murdered by Telaaran soldiers over an unknown dispute - possibly a drunken brawl. His powerful wife, Salrana Jana, was infuriated, and in her anger against the Telaaran soldiers, managed to create a revolt. She were joined by a number of those powerful Zaki aristocrats in a massive rebellion. It was enough to remove the Telaaran hold over the Sami valley, and create a Zaki kingdom of its own, which has remained independent since.

The largest and wealthiest city in the kingdom is the lakeside port city of Lothara, which serves as trade center for the greater region. The city was in fact merely the site of a mere village before its founding by the Telaarans shortly after their conquest of the Sami valley, but this fact is conveniently not mentioned. The second largest city in the kingdom is Thakran, straddling the river roughly in the center of the the kingdom. There are a number of other small-to-medium-sized cities that dot the landscape up and down the Sami valley and the surrounding forest, the Zaki being a rather more urbanized culture than its northern and western neighbors.

Religion: The most common faith - and the one endorsed by the state - in Zakijaya is the Night Court. This is an evolved form of a fusion between the Old Religion and the faith of the One. The beliefs of the Night Court hold that the One created the universe, and ruled over it for years uncountable. But the One departed years ago to another world on an urgent matter, leaving the tending of this realm to a council of his five daughters, who became the goddesses of the sky, the waters, the wildlife, the earth, and the aether; these five are collectively known as the Regents. In each of the Regents' domains are a host of other deities with specific responsibilities in fealty to one of the Regents, thus creating a hierarchy of deities. (For instance, the deities of animals and plants are in fealty to the Regent of the Wildlife) The Regents rule in the divine "night," with the divine "sun" of the One not being present. It is night, as without the One's presence, the Regents play court politics no less shrewdly than the members of any mortal court, and their bickering and backstabbing creates tension and disaster in the mortal world. The Zaki thus pray to the Regents and the other minor deities, and also pray for the return of the One, which will bring salvation and a return to idyll.

Aside from the Night Court, worship of solely the One (in a fashion similar to the Tareenans) and of some of the other deities of the Old Religion are also somewhat common, although both of their numbers are slowly but steadily declining. A number of esoteric mystery cults and eclectic fusion and offshoot faiths, combining elements of all manner of major faiths, have also mushroomed up in recent years across the kingdom in recent years, with their growth showing no signs of halting. Although the Night Court is endorsed by the state, there is little discrimination against other faiths, and what little there is is almost always no more a slightly higher tax rate.

Anything else: TBD?

Archduchy Biography: the city of Bogatstvo was said to have been founded by Nemanja, said to have been the bastard of the then House Bogdanovich head King Bojan of Braun. It must be noted that what would become first the Republic and then the Archduchy of Bogdanovich was a collection of small powers and city states. Bogdanovich founded as a feudal city republic in completion with the Principality of Zelen and the Republic of Narandžasta. The attempt of union came in the era of these contesting states with the formation of the Unija League, named after the city state that nowadays serves as the prime costal port of the Duchy of Plodan. The League lasted till an external threat (OOC: which of my neibouring powers invaded Srabija?) resulted in the counter force under Prince Adam of the Principality of Dvoru (a county in Ravan) occupying both Unija and Bogatstvo, proclaiming himself the first king of Srabija. Yet this childless king gave it not his cousins his crown after he fell but his close comrade, Steven of House Vukanović, thus House Kasun would instead focus on gradual claimant of the Duchy of Ravan with Steven I’s blessing.

The Kingdom of Srabija endured and expanded under Steven I, his son Dragonslav, then his grandson Ivan I, followed by a temporal coup by Ivan of House Wlakantchovski. Ivan II would in turn be defeated by Slavko of the Vukanović Dynasty. Slavko’s son, Stevan II, would however end up facing disunion as the chaos still left by the rein of Ivan II increased under Steven II, leading to dukes plotting to gain power but also the influencal merchents who had longed dreamed of the republican ideals of the certains members of the Unija League. Hence the guilds financed the usurpers. In the end King Stevan II of Srabija was then executed with the rest of the captured members of the Vukanović Dynasty, the remaining members went into exile, with Duke Boris III of Sunce fleeing to his dyanasty’s holding in northern Zlato, leaving his dukeship to the claimant of the guild master rebel general, Pejo Gasparovic.

The war did not end so as the other dukes had a war for the throne, till the guild aided Petar Kasun to claim Stefan II’s own duchy of Bogatstvo and forced the other dukes to a truce, signing the Narandžasta Decree which the guild best under the vision of a merchant republic centred around the city of Bogatsvo. The dukes in turn would be granted a place in the new class of political power, based on merchant and intrigue. The dukes became grand administrators of their former duchies; only the Duchy of Braun would be kept untouched from the change of administration, Duchess Dragonslava II of House Wlakantchovski having been rewarded for her efforts in the rebellion, as well as her primal stance as the first ally to Petar Kasun in his claim to Srabija before the guide gave the fullest support. The crown would hence be thrown into the sea as a token of “the new oath to the sea and trade as oppose to the mortal whims of royal blood and weighted crown” as the first doge to be himself proclaimed.

Hence forth forged the Republic of Bogatstvo under its first doge, Petar Kasun, who took advantage of the support the guilds provided him. His first mandate was to establish trade posts in the name of the new republic to be controlled by his dynasty. His second mandate was to launch a invasion of Zlato which the new republic had lost the lands of the king after the royal departure to it. Despite the efforts of the Zlaton warrior priest Laun the Lion the doge managed to annex the entire isle, placing it order special administration.

Durning the era of the third doge, Pejo Jurich, House Gasparovic would in irony to their contributions end up involve in a plot to reinstall the monarchy; this betrayal leaded to House Gasparovic to lose their special administration privileges in the 'former' duchy of theirs. House Venetianer, a foreign merchant family which had managed to make gainments when its then head Benjaman was commised as the Mayor of Narandžasta, were granted the trade posts and palace of their former overseers.

The Republic of Bogatstvo ended under the rein of Doge Henrik Dragic, who would proclaim himself Archduke of Bogatstvo, proclaiming not the title of king in order to continue the legacy of Peter Kasun while forsaking the republicanism for a new feudal era for Srabija. House Jurich would oppose this greatly but were silent with their offer with duke-ship. Yet Henrik would himself was a opposion indeed... for the title of feudal. House Venetianer took up a alliance with House Vlahovic, the the latter desiring to reinstall the monarchy with them as kings while the former just simply wanted the archduchy and to increase the wealth of the family. Indeed Emil of Sunce would prove the stronger, forcing his ally Filip of Zelan to forsake his claiment and hence Emil succeeded Henrik by bow and hoof. Yet Emil showed mercy to the house he took from and force House Dragic were not removed their traditional duchy (and in the republic administrative) realm. Indeed although he did not dream of returning to the Republic it appeared Emil had strong sympathies for it, declaring Narandžasta as a grand city ruled by a grand mayor appointed similar to the old doges of Bogatstvo; the same for Anotok on Zlato's neighbour isle Kulasvetilja. Of course these would not only answer to the Archduke but the Archduke was granted a chance to cast his (heavy weighted) vote in each election, with the possibility of casting a veto on "dangers to the Archduke and the subjects under his protection."

Andreas inherited from Emil's long reign. Both the families of Dragic and Vlahovic still dream of having dominion over Srabija, while House Jurich still dreams of the merchant republic with Kasun allies. In the age of the metallic compass a opportunity of trade not seen in the days of the Republic may open up. Yet will House Venetianer be able to fortune from a wealthy future? Or will profit turn to those who drive for the title of archduke, king or doge of the land under domination of the great city of Botatstvo? Time will tell.

Religion: practices of the traditional faith of Srabija are known as Poverenje. The Poverenjen faith based around a local pantheon based on 5 chief gods; Vreme the god of the weather who wields a thundery pike, More the god of the sea, Plodno the god of fertility, Znanje the goddess of knowledge plus archery and Marljivost the god of diligence. Other important gods include Smert the god of death, Konji the goddess of horses and war, Reke the river goddess (whom the Reke River that Bogatstvo sits near is named after), Zakon the god of law and Sedmonedeljno the god of intrigue. The faith was said to have been at its hight in the era of the Unija League, for indeed the city of Unija was named after the goddess of union (be it marriage or vassalage) Ujediniti.

However even before Adam’s rise the faith was to compete with outside forces. The Lady of The Ebony Arrow have challenged the Poverenje in influence; Xonarae’s religion was bought by the word of merchents and came to be adopted by the southern lords, especially the then young House Kasun. Indeed by the time of Adam a significant portion of the entire population of what would be Adam’s kingdom took the Lady over the Five, to the point that a sect of the Ebony Arrow brew in Srabija with great emphasis that Znanje is a Srabijan alias for Xonarae. Kingdom Adam gave the county of Crikve to the local sect’s high priestess Bojana Gragic so that her could have a secular armament to her metaphysical authority in Srabijan. That said Adam also permitted a group of Poverenje priests to govern the province of Starinačin in their theocratic approach under grounds that they vowed to not just the king but also recognised the religious authority of the High Priestess of Crikve.

Nowadays the Ebony Arrow sect in the Archduchy, known as the Način, follows more so the path of the Ebony Arrow in Malair but with the mixing of traditional Srabijan folklore, a extra stress on diligence and approaching the arrow from atop a horse. The Archduke Andreas comes from a house which followed the traditional sect of the Ebony Arrow, yet his children and their children have assimilated to Način.

As for Zlato (whose native name is Shtëpi): the majority of the native population follow a branch of Poverenje that focuses on More called Moren; they also believe that Moren set a avatar known as Igrajedan Mujaktoon whom legend set came forth eons before Bogatstvo formation as a sorcery who united Shtëpi which some versions of the legend claimed was part of Srabjia but got split by the magic of Mujaktoon to ward off invaders. This legend has defined the efforts of Laun the Lion who was a proclaimed member of a warrior templar order of the Moren sect known as the Urdhër. Today the Urdhër still exists as the primal cultural resistance to the Srabija hegemony upon Zlato.

Horse breeding is among the top parts of their agricultural sector.

Military wise horse archery is practice in Srabija.

This is still under construction, including which parts of the map each of the major families and others will be positioned. Is the merchant republic approach ok?

AG and I will talk and get back to you.

EDIT: We've discussed the idea of allowing a merchant republic and come to the conclusion not to allow it. You are more than welcome to have a noble house with a history of having been a merchant republic and having had your house seize control somehow but no- you cannot have a republic of any kind in this NES.

Progress,
1) We will be limiting the number of players in this NES to keep it manageable. There are a maximum of 25 total player-positions available in the NES.
2) We expect that sign-ups be complete by Sunday, May 25th. We expect that write-ups be complete by Thursday, May 29th. If there are still positions available after that time, we will accept new players after the turn zero update and new players will take the reigns of one of the NPC kingdoms.
3) You are expected to write turn zero orders which will be due Friday, May 30th. These orders should only include your court's response to the assassination of the High King- and not spending or invasions or anything- just how your family reacts. What does this tragedy/opportunity mean to your dynasty? As such, one paragraph, no spending, no invasions, etc is all that is expected.
4) Your stats will most probably be made available at the same that we publish turn zero update (ie after you've written turn zero orders) (sometime after June 1st).

Here is the location of the capital and the royal demesne. At this point, the lands aren't ruled by a king, but by a small contingent of local nobles and merchants who were members of the royal council before the death. It is a fairly thriving center of trade, but that is as much by virtue of being the capital as being in a good position. The city itself is located on a hill which ends abruptly near the water, and is therefore easily defensible. The copper in the name refers to the mines nearby, which is its main export. The lands surrounding the capital generally are fertile, but not all that loyal to the city at the moment, although they are usually fiercely loyal to whoever is proclaimed king. It is the lack of a king, rather than any lack of faith, which sets them so firmly apart from the current council. If any power, regional or otherwise, were to claim the city, it would be a boost to both their prestige and their power, due to its strategic location and historical and cultural significance.

I can answer any further questions, either about the city or about the world in general. However, I am leaving most of the lore up to the players, so I recommend they consider building the world through stories, write-ups about their history or the history of Auronas in general, etc.

Motto: Death is lighter than a feather. Duty is heavier than a mountain.

Location:
Spoiler :

The island in the middle of the sea is also crown territory.

UPDATE: My northern border now stops at the lake (the lake and the river north of it are now SK's). However as a result of not claiming my northern land any longer, I would instead like to claim farther west, to include those mountains and forests to my west as much as possible. The northern border of these western claims should be parallel to my new border with SK at the lake, and the southern border should come up against Aelrich. The western border should extend to the sea.

Vassals:

Spoiler :
House of Telamon - House of Telamon holds the lands directly north of the Crownlands (magenta on the map). They are a large House with many members, although most are rather impoverished for the nobility. This comes as a result of the Kinslayer rebellion 40 years ago, in which the Telamons attempted to rebel from both Mandragoran and the Hallowed King himself led by the leader of House Telamon who had a bit of a past as a lunatic and a Kinslayer. Fortunately, their western lands were quickly occupied by a vassal based in the north that didn't support their rebellion, leading to the retinues of the Hallowed King and of House Mandragoran to be able to put the rebellion down easily. Since then, the Telamons have been a shadow of their former selves and have resented their liege.

House of Jaegar - The House of Jaegar is the former vassal of the Telamons that broke away as a result of their rebellion. Once they put down the Telamons, the Jaegars rushed south to aid the ailing House of Dammael from a barbarian invasion from the south, mostly adventurers and mercenaries from the direction of Aelrich, managing the save the borderlands and push the savages back. After being a large part of their defeat, King Erwin's father King Walter gave the northern lands of the Telamons to the House of Jaegar and the Hallowed King gave the House the possession of a trading village on the west coast of the continent and the land in between as a reward for loyal and meritorious service. Because of this, the Jaegars are very supportive of the crown.

House of Dammael - The House of Dammael is even older than the House of Mandragoran, tracing its roots to the early settling of the region. It has always stood against the savages that raid from the mouth of our inland sea periodically, and ever since the formation of the Kingdom of Namidas, have protected the Kingdom from the northern threat. They as a result have a strong military tradition focusing on cavalry on the plains and light infantry to fight galley to galley on the river with any raiders that come. During the Kinslayer rebellion 40 years ago, there was also an invasion from the west where the harsher than usual winter had lasted well into spring, and the lack of food forced a mass exodus south. Thankfully the House of Jaegar, who have always had close ties with the Dammael, came to their aid in time, although not before the main stronghold burned. They typically have warm ties with their liege, the Mandragoran Kings.

House of Ravenwing - The House of Ravenwing holds most of the lands to the east, basing their authority out of a port city on the east coast of the continent, connecting the trade routes of the east to the rest of Namidas. They also dispute a large part of their western forest with the Kingdom of Arthendhal. They hold some of the more populous and prosperous parts of the Kingdom outside the crown lands themselves. They are usually the wild card in the politics of the Kingdom, even more so in the past century as their prosperity makes them ambitious, with some lords even eyeing the Kingdom itself. Their reliance on levies instead of the professional armies of the north makes that dream unlikely.

Changes to vassals: Jaegar now holds the newly claimed land directly to the west of the Telamons, and Dammael now holds anything newly claimed from the west of the current crown lands and to the south of that forest in the land of the Jaegars.

Kingdom Biography:
Spoiler :
653 years ago a bastard ascended the throne of Auronas as the Hallowed King and Emperor. What few know is that this bastard had a younger brother whom he promptly banished from the realm to avoid the threat he posed. This brother, after wandering and adventuring for a decade and a half, ended up several hundred miles to the north. He slowly founded his own kingdom, although it could hardly be called a Kingdom in his lifetime if you judged by size or power. His son built upon it, and his son after him, until the descendants of Eren Mandragoran had created a Kingdom to be proud of. As they grew and began to rely on the river Sorrow more and more, they pressured neighboring countries into swearing to the King of Namidas. In this way the country reached its present territorial growth. Their roots became muddied, and although every King was educated about his heritage, many considered it mere myth. One such king who considered it myth bent the knee to the High King some 200 years after the first Hallowed King was crowned.

This wasn't taken well by the rest of his family, many of whom believed the Kingdom should never bend the knee to the Empire that banished their ancestor. This boiled over when in 337 AF, the empire was left without a King. Naturally, Namidas declared independence and remained so for a while. But once Mian Kingsbane took the throne, the days of independence were numbered. The capital of Namidas, Toride, was razed, and that was the end of that.

Since then, the Kings of Namidas have worked hard to build Namidas up to be worthy of Glory. Their focus rested on the defense of lands held, and Toride was built up into a mighty Citadel surrounded by a city as prosperous as any. The mountains to the west have begun to be tapped for important minerals and the fertile plains along the River Sorrow have never been more lush with crops. This period of time also saw the rise of religion, with the Sundered Knot becoming the religion for the majority in the southern half of the Kingdom and the North saw their traditional ways organized into 'Ihai'. The Old Religion also has a number of followers in the lands of the House of Ravenwing to the east, but they are few and persecuted on and off. The reconquest was also when the dynasty began the custom of sending their children north to House Dammael to learn the ways of being a soldier for 3 years starting at age 12, then 2 years with House Jaegar to learn the ways of commanding a battle. There are periodic visits back to court of course.

Religion:
Spoiler :
The main two religion in Namidas are The Sundered Knot and Ihai. The Sundered Knot is from the Kingdom of Aelrich, while the Ihai was born from the warrior traditions of the north.

Ihai - This religion was born in the western mountains where fighting against the brigands, barbarians, and savages that raid from the upper reaches of the river is common. This religion worships the War God Ingtar and believes that Ingtar occasionally gives a piece of himself to a child upon birth, leading to the child becoming a military genius and a famed soldier in his time. They believe that the mother of Ingtar is the earth itself, and bury their dead as they are without any coffins or shrouds around them in order to 'receive the mother's last embrace'. They are very tolerant of other religions, including the Sundered Knot, and have little interest in spreading their religion.

Strongholds:

Spoiler :
The principal stronghold of Namidas is at Toride. Ever since the reconquest, Toride has been rebuilt as an impenetrable bastion. Toride is situated at the center of the Weeping Delta. The city itself is spread out on the middle piece, with parts of it extending across the rest of the delta. The center island however is completely walled off by a curtain wall around 3 yards thick and 20 yards tall. This wall encloses the city proper and has 5 gates at the entrance of each of the 5 bridges into the city. Further within upon a hill near the southeastern corner of the island is the Fortress of Aerilon. This fortress is enclosed by a pair of moats filled with sharpened spikes, then with a wall 6 yards thick and 30 tall. There is only 2 gates into the fortress, both stout, and the fortress backs onto the sea itself providing the fortress with its own set of docks separate from the rest of the city in case the city itself is captured. Further within the fortress is the Citadel of Eren, named after the founder of the ruling dynasty. This Citadel was composed of a wall 20 yards thick and 50 yards tall, casting most of the courtyard in shadow for most of the day. There was only a single way into the Citadel and it was protected by a trio of gates, an Outer Gate, the Main Gate, and the Inner Gate. Should a defender make it through all three, they would have to fight through an elongated courtyard enclosed on all sides with walls filled with arrow slits. Inside the main building of the Citadel is a maze of rooms and corridors that an invader would have to clear out, with every intersection of corridors overshadowed by a murder hole above it and a corridor of hallways above the corridors themselves in order to connect all of the murder holes along with the arrow slits positioned in the walls in order to cover as much of the corridors as possible. All of this leads to the twisting staircase theta leads up to the peak of the Citadel, every step of the way covered with murder holes, arrow slits, and a passageway narrow enough for a pair of skilled fighters to hold it by themselves until they dropped from exhaustion. All this from over 300 years of fortification.

That be a mighty fine collection of names from Attack on Titan.

It seems I have been found out! I watched the whole first season with english subtitles over the past few days and it seems the names of the characters are rather catchy :D

I made many edits to the post, including details about the vassals, changes in the biography, and two maps. Accurate descriptions of the castles and towns will come soon.

Name/Player Name: The Kingdom of Mercheul

Ruler/Family: King Gotthard Halling (51) – always detached from the actual business of ruling, Mercheul has prospered under his rule. He abides strongly by the feudal dues and duties, both to his vassals and to his liege.

Bucher Halling (26) – Returned recently, on the news of the death of his brother, from foreign adventuring as a sellsword. The youngest of Gotthard’s sons.

Location:

Vassals:
The Halling Family – Upstarts to the throne, the Hallings have held it for two generations, and seek to perform a hat trick. However, of Gotthard’s four sons, only one is alive, and his recent return to Mercheul after most of a decade abroad makes his chances as King slim.

The Wryman Family – More than half the Kings of Mercheul, over the past three centuries, have been Wrymans. Once they were skilled at playing off their rivals against each other, but they’ve grown increasingly arrogant. Their patriarch, Jerol Wryman (24), is rash and hotheaded, but remains a stickler for the proper way of doing things. His extensive family, with many lesser houses, is kept in line by his reputation as a military prodigee, but remain wary of his addiction to southern spices.

Tolver Family – The Tolver are the bluest blood of the nobility. They were the first Red Kings, but as the wealth of Mercheul has shifted from land to commerce, have lost their lustre. They would prefer to break rather than bend, but their current patriarch, Raymand (39), has seen his house’s glory decline and is willing to cut corners where necessary. In his youth he was a “guest” of the Hallowed King’s court, and now he is a staunch supporter of the Hallings.

Lakker Family – The Lakkers were nobility with little land or wealth, but have found success through the sale of their titles and daughters to wealthy merchants in Baumstadt, creating a breed of new nobility linked to them and their name. Jared Lakker, who, through a fortuitous series of events became head of the family as a third son, ruthlessly advances his extended families’ interests, abroad and at court.

Martten Family – The Marttens are chiefly known for the Martten, Kale. Kale Martten is the Steward of the State, having risen up through a close relationship with the King’s eldest son to being the day-to-day ruler of Mercheul and the chief presence at court. Despite the great mercantile wealth of Mercheul, he remains distrustful of the merchant class and the new nobility.

Kingdom Biography: Mercheul is a young face on an old land. The people of the Saln had their own independent kingdom a thousand years ago, where they worshipped the old gods of the sun and moon and wed brother to sister to keep the ruling lineage pure. But the coming of the Artheni, first as mercenaries, later as conquerors and settlers, led to the decline of the Saln and their assimilation into their destroyers. Mercheul, then, was just a tributary of the southern kingdoms, but during the interregnum the Mercheul broke free from their suzerains and established their own realm. Since then they have elected their own kings from the ruling houses, the Mercheulan kings simply being primer inter pares of the nobility.

Religion: The Old Religion

Anything else: Mercheul is known chiefly for its exports of pottery: the distinct red clay of the Saln is prized across Auronas. Red is, in fact, the royal color: the Red Castle is the seat of the Red King. While the main powerbrokers are the Artheni, in the hills and forests clans of Salnmen cling to some of the ancient ways, venerating hungry gods in the dark of the night. Baumstadt is a major city, and separate from the noble families, with a Lord Mayor appointed by a council of the guilds who control the town under charter from the King. The merchant class has used the wealth from pottery to become middlemen and traders, and their ships travel the eastern coast from Telaar to Kaederith. This wealth has allowed the noble families to maintain well-equipped and distinctive cavalry, the envy of the rest of the world.

@Shadowbound

Just going to go ahead and say that the southern portion of your claim conflicts with my own. Check my previous post.

I think your claim is silly because it ignores natural borders.
