<English>[Tab]The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was established on 3 May 1960 as a trade bloc-alternative for European states who were either unable to,
or chose not to, join the then-European Economic Community (EEC) (now the European Union (EU)).
The EFTA Convention was signed on 4 January 1960 in Stockholm by seven states. Today only Iceland, Norway, Switzerland,
and Liechtenstein remain members of EFTA (of which only Norway and Switzerland are founding members).

. .. .. .. .[Tab]Kingdom of Norway
The Kingdom of Norway was founded June 7th 1905, after a peaceful separation from Sweden. Since then it has been invaded, and occupied by Nazi Germany, although more recently it has joined the EFTA and has discovered Petroleum.
The current King of Norway is Harald V.

. .. .. .. .. . Republic of Iceland
The Republic of Iceland was founded on 20 May 1944. In 1946, the Allied occupation force left Iceland, which formally became a member of NATO on 30 March 1949, amid domestic controversy and riots. On 5 May 1951, a defence agreement was signed with the United States. American troops returned to Iceland and remained throughout the Cold War, finally leaving in autumn of 2006.
The immediate post-war period was followed by substantial economic growth, driven by industrialisation of the fishing industry and Marshall aid. The 1970s were marked by the Cod Wars – several disputes with the United Kingdom over Iceland's extension of its fishing limits. The economy was greatly diversified and liberalised when Iceland joined the European Economic Area in 1994.
In the years 2003-2007, Iceland developed from a nation best known for its fishing industry into a global financial powerhouse, but was consequently hit particularly hard by the 2008 global financial crisis. Today Iceland has the first openly gay head of government in modern times.

. .. .. .. .. . Principality of Liechtenstein
The Principality of Liechtenstein was founded in 1888 after gaining independence from the German confederation. The Principality of Liechtenstein would manage to remain neutral in both World Wars, even with a Nazi sympathy group and its proximity to Germany.
Today Liechtenstein is one of the last Principalities. It joined EFTA on January 1st 1991.

. .. .. .. .. . Swiss Confederation
The Swiss confederacy was founded in 1815 at the Congress of Vienna. Switzerland has never fought in a foreign war since its establishment in 1815, gaining it legendary neutrality.
Switzerland joined EFTA on May 3rd 1960.
