Can someone post a link on how ideologies work. I got 10 unhappinnes from public opinion and I have no idea why.

1. The World Congress had adopted a different ideology than yours and/or
2. One or more AIs has a higher influential rating over you than you do over them.

Things to do from where you are:

1. Choose happiness tenets. It's popular for the AI to pick Order and if they do, one of those tenets provides them a tourism bonus for civs with less happiness.

2. Check your military strength vs those civs with influence over you; if you can take out a few of their major cities it would really help.

3. Win the game in your chosen victory before they do.

And for your next game:

Build those guilds and run those specialists to get great works. Also build the standard buildings to house great works.

Public opinion has 3 stages: dissidents, civil resistance and revolutionary wave. Any way to make more culture could help.

I always go for domination , I ignored tourism completely.I have one unhappinnes per city.

That indicates lowest level of unhappiness due to ideologies. It goes up from there.

1. If u chose order and everyone went freedom, you will face bad public opinion
2. If ur culture and tourism are low and another civ's culture dominates the world, eg siam you dirty dirty sneaker, you get bad too

You can choose to use tourism as offense and culture as defense. Or you can just wipe out that civ whose influential rating is higher. That way, 1. you gain the great wonders of that civ which is plenty obviously and 2. you now generate one of the larger cultures and tourism.

It is implied here.Let me be specific.Especially if you are not don 't want to laser in on tourism.Build Wonders early.Especially those who give you culture or GW slots.
You also might want to go Aesthetics. That way you get that culture boost you need.I am not really good at the tourism part in I tend to wait to long to build the guilds etc.But I have been bit pretty hard by not doing so.So now I make sure I put priorities on getting all my National Wonders and guilds up and staffing them asap. You just have too.Whatever else you want to do can wait.It will pay off sooner and later.
And as said. When all else fails.Invade and take those GW's and Wonders

If you like war and domination and also want to ignore tourism then go for Autocracy and take that tenet that gives you 250 tourism for every GP spent. That is usually enough to at least avoid the higher levels of ideology pressure.

... and of course, if it is so that you like war and domination, go after the culture/tourism civs (with an opposing ideology) first.

I'm struggling on my current game with unhappiness due to ideological pressure.

Deity, Maya, Continents, Standard

I chose Order along with a couple of other Civs. A couple went for Autocracy and one went for Freedom. As I'm going for a science victory and I'm yet to beat Deity, I've neglected my culture. As a result, two civs, both with different ideologies are now influential over me. Now, no matter which Ideology I choose (change to) - I'm stuck in a Revolutionary Wave! Am I screwed? Currently level on tech on around turn 225 and this is my best go at Deity yet! :(

One thing I'm slightly confused by is people saying that culture output is the defense against foreign influence, however to get Guilds up early for Great People and their subsequent Great Works. GWs generate Tourism, so does my Tourism output have any 'defensive qualities' regarding another Civ's cultural pressure?

Unhappiness due to ideological pressure needs to be anticipate. I always choose my Ideology assuming I'll loose around 15 to 20 happiness when AI'll choose itself. So I plan to have CS or luxs in quantity.

In most game, after Research labs, money is abundant, so you can buy lux to AI, spend it for Zoo, CS.

Happiness is the best way I find to solve the problem. High happiness reverse the pressure, not only tourism. In a game with Germany (Immortal not Deity), I had -5 happiness when culture AI choose Ideo, and finish with 104 happiness and revolutionary wave in other civ. It doesn't delay my SV. Don't really remember if I finish Commerce or Patronage...

Even going SV you can have a time for amphi or opera/Ermitage, specially with order hammers. In this case I neglict boost for GP and prefer happiness from monument and production buildings.

In Deity, I don't try Maya SV yet.

One time when I "skipped" tourism (I never skip culture) I saw that I will have an ideology pressure problem with one civ (in particular) so I sent a musician to him. Sure it was not worth much (around 7-800 or so) but that was enough to get me over the tourism threshold against him. After that I selected the "250 tourism" tenet to further protect my ideology.

(to have a ideology pressure on your own towards other civs, helps protection your ideology).

I thought tourism was offense, and culture defense? If so, why do you need tourism to combat ideological pressure? Guess I still don't fully understand the BNW systems.

If your influence level against a civ is unknown but his influence level against you is exotic, he will have one ideology pressure on your people for his ideology. So by increase your influence level against him will negate/lower his pressure on your people (you can of course still have pressure from someone else).

You can see who pressure on the culture tab.
