For new posters, and even a few of the old experienced ones, I feel its worth posting a bit of a posting guideline.

Firstly, please take a read through our Forum Rules. Make sure you understand them, and that you follow them.

We are very excited about the development of Civilization 5, and its great to see such a great number of people who are also excited about it. This forum is a great place to come and discuss the new announced features and to speculate on what else will be announced.

However, we ask that when you do this, you remain civil at all times.

  1. If you are disappointed by something, you are welcome to state that, but do it in a civil and constructive manner.
  2. If you disagree with someone, you are welcome to state what you disagree with and why, but do it in a civil and constructive manner.
  3. If you love some new feature, you are welcome to discuss every aspect of it, but please do so in a civil and constructive manner.
  4. See where we're going with this? In a civil and constructive manner.

This forum is a place for discussion, and we have very little tolerance for people abusing other people ("flaming") or deliberately and excessively trying to annoy other people ("Trolling").

If you see someone making a rude comment, please do not respond in kind. That just serves to inflame the problems. Instead, please use the "report post" button () located below the posters' avatar. The moderators will then deal with the issue. Please also note that reporting the post does not somehow allow you to flame someone in return.

Regards,

Edit: we will post any forum specific policy announcements here as needed

Recently we had a large number of threads about the recent announcement of Civ 5 requiring in some capacity Steam to function. This has led to copious amounts to threads on the issues as well as, numerous flames, trolls and other assorted unpleasant discourses that have led to our emails flooded with reported posts.

You have been warned by Ori to keep the discussion civil but that has not happened. This behavior will no longer be accepted in this forum, as such, if a single post gets legitimately reported in a thread I will be shutting that thread down, as well as, penalizing the offender.

A notice:

Using labels to mock other users and/or their arguments will no longer be tolerated on this forum.

An example (but not exhaustive) list includes:

Steam Sunshine Squad
Tin Hat wearing paranoids
Accusing someone for working for Steam/2KGames/Stardock etc. who is not 2kGreg & 2kElizabeth

We will be warning/infracting people we see using these terms from this point on.

Updated the board removing some restrictions on topics.
As a general reminder:

This is a forum for civil[ized] discussion of the game - if you wish to contribute to the discussion in a civil manner you are more than welcome to do so - if you wish to troll and flame you are not.

The Civ 5 General Discussions forum is being overrun with copycat threads either complaining about or praising Civ 5. Almost all of those threads do not present an actual discussion, just a list of why you do or don't like the game.

I have opened two threads for general rants and raves about the game, please use those for posts not suitable for discussion.

Actual discussion threads, that maintain a discussion and do not turn into a simply list of why you like the game will be permitted, but those that fail to meet that actual discussion standard, will be merged into these threads without notice.

We have updated our forum rules. Please be sure to read through the updated rules at your first opportunity.

A new subforum has been created for the 'Gods & Kings' expansion. Please direct all discussion regarding the expansion there, and discussion regarding the existing game here.

A new subforum has been created for the 'Gods & Kings' expansion. Please direct all discussion regarding the expansion there, and discussion regarding the existing game here.

Please note that the admins have merged the "Gods & Kings" subforum back into the "General Discussion" subforum, and that all threads have been moved over.
The sticky threads have been reorganized accordingly, and some of the old stickies are now linked in the info center.

Following the release of the Fall Patch, the Brave New World forum has been merged into the General Discussions forum, as was the case following Gods & Kings.

As part of this forum merge, there was unfortunately a technical hiccup, resulting in all threads from General Discussions' subforums (i.e. Ideas & Suggestions and Bug Reports) being also merged into the main General Discussions forum. This is not something that can be neatly undone, though all threads with the [BUG] prefix have been mass-moved back to the Bug Reports subforum, and all threads dating from prior to the creation of the Civ5 forums (in February 2010) have been mass-moved to Ideas & Suggestions, from where they must have originated.

However, all other threads from the Bug Reports and Ideas & Suggestions subforum dating from after the creation of the Civ5 forums cannot be neatly mass-moved; they can only be moved manually as we come across them. As such, reporting threads that belong in the respective subforums would be greatly appreciated, allowing us to speedily identify which threads should go where.

Lately there have been many 'elimination' threads on a wide range of topics. Although we used to not allow these, we relented on the basis that they were quite popular and capable of facilitating discussion. However, we've reached a critical mass and further elimination threads are tending to drown out everything else in this forum. As such, from now on, if you'd like to start an elimination thread, you must seek permission from a Civ5 moderator first. Only once permission is given can you start an elimination thread. Permission will be granted on the basis of the conduciveness of the elimination thread to productive discussion.

You may post any elimination thread in the Forum Games forum without mod permission.
