what tschuggi said. I only use ErebusContinent, and it's obvious that the holy cities are using a different city placement routine compared to "regular" civs.

for one, there's no code that "improves" their starting terrain if they get spawned with a bunch of crappy land, which can gimp many of them a lot.

they also do have a tendency to spawn in some forgotten corner, where crappy land is highly likely. and they often get placed pretty clumped together in those forgotten corners.

plus they seem to have no "flavour" for where they'll be placed. IIRC I've seen the Empy one spawn in desert kinda often, but the others are usually sitting in jungle. it would be cool to have for example RoK in plains/hilly terrain, OO on the coast, FoL near ancient forests etc :)

so no matter how awesome the holy cities mechanic is, you see it's hard to enjoy it when most of the time 4/5 out of 6 of them are all sitting in some crappy marshland in the distant south :crazyeye:

it would be interesting to give them for their starting placement not only a flavoured terrain, but also a flavoured unique feature, will say:
- HC EMP starts in desert near the ... mirrorthingy UF, the sun mana... ahhrg, where is my mind
- HC ROK starts near the ... mana earth UFthingydingy (I'll go and check for Alzheimer:eek:)
- HC AV starts near pyre of seraphic, bradelines well or broken sepulchre? I would vote for bradelines well...
- HC ORDER starts near the tomb of succellus or the carcer of light
- HC OO starts near the aifon aisle, maelstrom (or pyre of seraphic, bradelines well or broken sepulchre, they are chaotic/evil, too)
- HC FOL starts near Yggdrasil

for the placement routine flavour calculation, I would give them starting flavour UF no 100%, just to make it possible to have them UFs for the human player, too.

- HC EMP starts in desert near the Mirror of Heaven
- HC ROK starts near the Standing Stone
- HC AV starts near Pyre of Seraphic (it's more closer to Bhall; Broken Sepulcher has nothing to do with AV, while Bradeline Well, iirc, was corrupted by someone -forgot who-, not related to the gods)
- HC ORDER starts ... edit : digging old posts, I found that Junil devoted himself to guard the Seven Pine! Let's start Order Holy City near this UF!
- HC OO starts near the Aifon Isle (the source of Danalin's grief), in a coast
- HC FOL starts near Tomb of Sucellus and surrounded by lots of Ancient Forest

Seconded, thirded, hundredth Tschuggi's idea here ;)

EDIT :
While digging the old posts, I re-read the history of OO and also remember of the FfH scenario. The point is : OO is a subverted religion for Danalin, the god of water. Hastur (the Archangel of Mind) whisper nightmare to his dream, resulting in Hemah. Hemah dream the Overlords, resulting in the monstrosity and the religion worship them. This is why I made the OO-related combat aura is mind-related ;)

So, would it be possibe to make a mechaninc for a quest for good/neutral non-OO civs to destroy OO holy city and then found a new (true) religion for Danalin? Since Danalin is a peaceful, benevolent god, I'd suggest the name for the new religion is Mare Serenitatis (yes, taken from the sea on the moon )

The Order has nothing to do with the Tomb of Sucellus. Sucellus remains one of the chief deities of the Fellowship of the Leaves, so his tomb would be a good near the Fol holy city. The Yggdrasil would work too though. Is there any reason why religions could not be weighted towards multiple unique features?

Junil was sworn to protect the Seven Pines. However, Brigit also remains a patron of the Bannor and is honored in many Order temples and abbeys.

The Aifon Isle was renamed Maenalus in FfH several versions back, but this modmod may not have followed suit.

I never have been deep into the lore of ffh, so thanks for the clearing from the Master of all lore :goodjob: Wouldn't harm to having you around here once in a while... ;)

that's actually already the case. there was a bug but it was fixed beta update 6. let me know if there are still issues

My curreny game, Beta 6 :

Order HC : spawned in the middle of tundra, near the Dragon Bones.
Empyrean HC : spawned in the middle of desert, near the Mirror of Heaven.
RoK HC : spawned in the middle of tundra, only few hills surrounding the city. No UF.
FoL HC : spawned in the middle of forested grassland, no UF.
OO HC : spawned near one-tile lake, at southern part of the map. surrounded by plains. maybe because I play with Lakes map script?
AV HC : spawned north, surrounded by tundra, near the Broken Sepulcher.

So I guess the order from "bad" to "good" placement would be RoK, OO, Order/AV, FoL, Empryrean.

If it's possible, UF-related modifier for HC placement should follow suggestion in this thread (AV near the Pyre of Seraphic, etc).

and this would be, iirc:

- order: seven pines
- fol: tomb of succellus or yggdrasil
- rok: standing stones
- emp: mirror of heaven
- oo: aifon aisle
- av: bradelines well or pyre of seraphic
- esus: ??? nothing ??? tower of eyes?
