For me, as a UK gamer patiently awaiting my copy, I have only one question for my fortunate NA friends:

Have they spelt Ludwig van Beethoven's name correctly this time? :mischief:

I have one question for all you early players: what are the effects of the 10 hidden treasures only available once you finish all the Exploration SP tree? Do they give you gold? Artifacts? Mojo?

I don't know if this is a new issue in BNW, but I sure didn't notice this in GK.

So, apparently AI settlers are now completely ignored by barbarians, which means they can just rush a settler without a single military unit with Raging Barbs option on, and then walk right past the barbarians and settle wherever they please.
I noticed this while exploring in a new game; My scout was looking at a Shoshone settler walking by a barbarian camp(!) unescorted, surrounded by 3 barb brutes. I was appalled at the stupidity of the AI, then was even more astonished when the 2 brutes which weren't guarding the camp decided that capturing that defenseless settler right next to them was dishonorable or something, and approached my scout instead(full HP).
I would've wrote this off as a freak AI ******ation if I didn't witness this again and again and again (that's four times total)... but the fourth time, this Indonesian settler was just wandering back and forth next to a barb camp actively spawning units for several turns without getting captured.

I just quit that game because it was simply getting absurd.

WOW. Anyone can confrim this? Seems like terrible, terrible and game breaking bug or just truly ******ed design choice...

So many thoughts I feel like sharing but I don't even know where to begin. It's like a brand new game:

The landscape of moneymaking has changed 180 degrees. There is a big learning curve involved. No more depending on terrain and money buildings. All about the trade routes. But I had a tough time keeping my trade routes safe - I underestimated the relentlessness of barbarians - the horseman ruining my land routes and the ships ruining my sea routes. Barbarians are crazy. Don't be put off by lack of gold tiles on the coast - sea trade routes make up for it big time. Lighthouse offering production is a necessary addition and feels like that's what it always should have been

Piety is a very viable starting option. That's what I chose and I liked it.

Started next to Brazil. Pedro was really nice and I didn't have to worry about war at all

The same thing seemed to be happening for MadDjinn in his Scramble for Africa scenario...

My initial experiences:

1) International Games, World Fair, and International Space Station are things you absolutely want to win. I won both World Fair and International Games in my first full game as Morocco and really depended on International Games to get the new culture victory (200% Tourism is a must for it). It was on Prince, as I always drop back from Emperor and Immortal to a lot lower level when each DLC comes out, as there are major changes, but even on Prince it took a bit of doing.

2) New cultural victory lets you win regardless of going wide. I won that Moroccan cultural victory with 6 cities and without Alhambra. Normally, more than 4 or 5 cities would make things quite difficult, if not impossible, for the old cultural victory.

3) Kasbah's + Petra would have been ridiculous (didn't even try to hard-build Petra, however, in this game).

4) I tried the America Civil War scenario for ~20 turns and honestly, it's okay, but Fall of Rome is about the same sort of scenario and does things a little bit better.

5) I was quite surprised that my caravans and cargo ships actually drop out of sight if I don't have other units near by. Rather odd. After all, workers and missionaries and other civilian units don't disappear in the fog of war. Not sure that makes sense.

I agree; this is deplorable if true.

I seem to remember that the AI was really stupid for a while after G&K came out - I can remember in one of my first games I freed a worker for a City-State, who then decided to explore the map with it  - so hopefully this will be fixed in a patch. I really hope they haven't told the Barbarian AI not to target AI settlers!

So finishing up my first full game. Played as Poland and went for a cultural. Have to say, I love and hate the new system. I love the micro management that it allows you to do to get your culture going. I went pretty standard Tradition start, only going 3 cities instead of 4 because of resources and Shoshone eating up the middle of the map. I out teched everyone so fast it got into next turn status, so every vital wonder I got easily. Assyria, Zulu, and Morroco got into a three way war in the southern part of the map leaving me, Venice, and the Shoshone to be left alone. This was on Prince difficulty mind you, but felt much easier than old culture wins.

Anyone have any helpful hints on the right way to match pieces? I felt like it was guess work all game long.

First game as Poland, continents, standard, emperor. First 2 civs I met were Venice and then Austria...guess I won't be going for a diplo victory.

I went Liberty and expanded to 6 cities by turn 70. Second city settled next to nearby Mt. Kailesh which gave me the first religion. Liberty finisher for Prophet for enhancing, also by turn 70. Religion: goddess of the hunt, church property, pagodas, cathedrals, and +50 faith for each GP expenditure (usually I would pick a spreader enhancer but the extra faith to buy those buildings faster seems like a better choice this time).

I have Germany, friend, to my west and Venice, angry, to my immediate south. Austria and Russia are way south. I plan on taking Venice ASAP as I have allied a couple CS via barb quests and don't wanna lose them to the crazy blind guy. I just hope Germany doesn't backstab...gonna gift him an excess resource to bump up his diplo modifier.

Only trade route so far is internal for the food. Gold is coming in just enough from my luxuries to keep me in the black. A second route will likely go to Germany for faster religion spread.

Do you have a save you could attach showing the behavior? Would love to take a look. This is obviously not by design if it's occurring.

Indonesia, Large Islands, Prince, Ancient Era, Quick

Loving it so far! Focused first on researching Sailing to unlock embarkment and cargo ships. Focused on trade techs first and plopped 1 city to the north near marble, down south on Morocco's island near some copper, another near Gibraltar, and one more near a gold. The resource diversity from the Spice Islands UA is amazing for the raking in the gold! Even better, setting up my cities with as many religions in them so I can get some nice purchases in Industrial. Currently working on a culture victory, but worried that may have to switch over to a diplomatic.

Was hoping to grind out Kris Swordsman on an island with barbarians, but the galleys and embarking barbarians were messing Morocco and my trade route, so finally decided to wipe it out.

I'm glad they changed "coveting your land" to a temporary negative diplomacy. Morocco only has friendly modifiers.

Really looking forward to trying out a mercantile/cultural Polynesia. The trade opportunities so early in the game...:crazyeye:!!!

Greatly impressed with the game so far, and the menu theme is really growing on me.

Good to know it's a bug and I'm a bit more happy taht I didn't buy BNW at the release :p

Nope. It's still Ludwig von Beethoven.

Standard, pangea, emperor, Venice 100 turns.

Built a caravan, made trade route to RamK, then cbow rushed his cap and lost the route. He made peace and gave me a city, so I have 2 puppets. Captured Buddah Holy City.

Built a cargo ship, made a CS trade route, lost it to filthy pirates.

Had to stop and go to work.

Indonesia and Morrocco also present in game with Korea, and Rome.
