TerraForm -- a map editor for CIV dos

Quotes from Trigger The Kid in Green

First thanks for your kind words about TerraForm.

I always wanted to create a map where all the civilisations are in one part, and there's a beautiful land, just beyond the horizon, that is so full of resources that whoever gets there first stands a really good chance of winning. And now I have.

I can only say that when you get your scenario working my reward would be that you post it as a GameOfTheMonth .

My hex-edited CIV.exe file has different values for movement, defence and attack for the units, than the original game had. One thing I noticed - I added some units to the map in 3980BC and they all had the original values for the first turn only, before reverting to the values I had set in the civ.exe file for subsequent moves. Strange, huh?

TerraForm gives any unit added to the map 1 movement factor, after that I believe the game, on each new turn for a country, refreshes the value from a table found in the SVE file. The table is generated when you create a new world. Why the game was designed to have the values in the EXE that seem to only be used when a world is created and then use the table in SVE file during game play is a mystery to me. But it does allow for a lot of manipulation of the way units behave.

SVE file Unit Descriptor

Manipulation of these values allows one to control the production life cycle of a unit, moves, attack and defense values. Some of the fields seem to be unit specific, but there are some interesting things that can be achieve like allowing land units and aircraft to carry other units. (I always thought the game needed parachutists)

Hello Dack :) I got a problem at unregistered version
"Run-time error '432':
File name or class name not found during Automation operation"
And i tried to get registered version by clicking "reguest registration key" but that didn't work. I use win98SE. And when i looked those pictures i think this is very good editor. I hope your help helps me :) :goodjob:

EDIT: Now it works :) This error message doesn't appear if you have windows management instrumentation (95/98). But on XP you don't need that :) (In post #4 is the link to get that [ how to do text with link on it :( ])

Great work Dack! Civ addiction have been doubled :goodjob:

Thanks a million Dack for your wishes, I just noticed that I've made grevious errors of syntax, spellings etc in my previous post...must have been still 'groggy' :)!
Thank you for not pointing them out!
Haven't played much since I wrote last, and haven't unzipped the file again. Will pass on the results to you soon as I do.
Regards ans PEACE!

This is wonderful editor which would bring second life to the first civilization.
Looking at the unregistered version, it seems to include all functionality which is wanted.

I hope I'll be able to install and play it soon :)
Have yet to follow Dack's advice!

Version 2 is coming to it end. I was sort of mulling over some statistics

TerraFormDownload.txt (101 Bytes, 744 views) The forum claims 744 downloads. That must be a bunch of bots. I’ve given out keys to approximately 128 different people.
67 percent have never posted.
51 percent were only active the day they requested their key.

I was hoping that this program would stimulate greater participation in the CIV DOS forum.

Additions to version 3:

Under Options – Set to 4000bc
This sets the turn counter and date back to the start. Removes all old REPLAY.TXT data, and city and unit information. When you restart the game you are presented with the choice of country and you and the other civilizations are randomly assigned location and play begins. This allows reuse of worlds in a new game.

Visibility
Has additional buttons to make cities on visible squares visible. Also a “All cities visible” button that performs as a one time Apollo wonder.
The dark unknown section is now shaded in a see thru manner to more easily make terrain visible or not.

Under File – Write Map BMP
This produces an image map of the world in a file called TFmap.BMP

I was hoping that this program would stimulate greater participation in the CIV DOS forum.
You have at least one conversion. I came across the site while investigating Civilization resources; I registered to get the program key but didn't leave.

Set to 4000bc...This allows reuse of worlds in a new game.
Awesome. I actually wanted something like this. I'd like to use the same world with different difficulty levels as pristinely as possible.

Btw, marking huts not active with Terraform didn't seem have any effect. Is this just a bug or is it even possible to do?

Funny no one noticed this before. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. TerraForm seems to know where the huts are, but doesn’t change then properly. Some sort of a bit set/ bit clear typo. I will attempt to isolate it

Wow, new version! It's great you keep up the excellent work. But I can't seem to find the actual download link? I really don't see any attachments at all?

And will you consider implementing a sensible system for activation? I reformat a lot, reactivation process is a bit unhandy to be honest. I mean, at least for us loyal people who've been around since the first version. :mischief:

Thanks ~ Kris

[tab]Somehow I didn’t include the attachment. It’s there now.

[tab]It only happens with major version changes. The same key works with minor changes within version number.

Hi Dack, great to see an update come out. Interesting stats about responses, downloads, etc. My excuse is taht I just haven't had the time to play. Maybe I'll get that GOTM done this week...

Works now. Thanks Dack!

Hello guys! I'm a Spanish lover of Civ1 (i run it under windows) and i'm eager to use the program!!
I shall send you the email as soon as possible asking for an activation code.

Just a question. Do i need something special beside my copy of CIV1 to PLAY the "modules" that have been created with Terraformer or similar?

I am very excited about designing and putting to work special "worlds" for CIV1

Danny, Barcelona

Hi Dack,

I've been looking for a program like this since I started playing civ about 15 years ago. I downloaded it and it looks great. I applied for the reg key and I can't wait to start playing one of those new and improved maps. Thanks!
