DoW to stop diplo victory
Suilman would not make peace with me (Immortal). 200+ years he had half the city states locked up on me, and wouldn't make peace. He made peace 'offers' but they where a joke.
I had stealth bombers stacked 10 deep in my capital so he couldn't fight me, but I hadn't built a navy and didn't have time so I couldn't reach him effectively. I even took two of his city states that where close by force (which doesn't help you win a diplo but I thought maybe he'd at LEAST take that as a clue to offer better peace terms). Was this just Suilman being a ****? I didn't think this was a strat the AI used (especially in this case where it is clearly a losing strat for their victory path. He called a war he was not ready to actually fight while I had four city states locked up, years before the UN was even built, and basically lost the game for him, and me). If I can just get one game like this one... I got so close to my Immortal achieve (sigh).

Yeah, certain leaders tend to be really, really bad with peace and wars. I've noticed Augustus and Suleiman are REALLY bad with perpetual war for no good reason. In one game he backstabbed me and I never saw a single one of his units. It was probably just him having a stick up his butt.
Also sometimes, late in games, leaders will DoW you even knowing they have no chance; I had a game where Gehngis DoWed me and said something like "I know the odds are not in my favor" etc., I stealth bombed him into oblivion and got total surrender 10 turns later. |

The AI won't back off until you whoop him a bit. Take more cities and wipe out his military. He'll just think that he's winning the war if he's got loads of units and cities left. You wouldn't surrender if you thought that you were winning, would you?

It's not surrender it's peace. And I don't mind the high asking price in general, but he kept wanting me to give him a city. I guess the AI thinks everyone plays like it and has 30 cities. I had 4, he wasn't getting one without killing me first.
As for taking him down, he was too far away and there was too little time. I had the bombers to do it but he was way out of range other side of the map - and we where on constant ten turn UN VOTE for the last 40 years or so, because the idiot built the thing anyway when he knew he couldn't win. Stupid AI.

So you are faulting the AI... for actually maximizing its advantages over you?
Good grief. It's not like you even have to stop playing when he wins UN. Get some Logistics stealth bombers, kill everyone on the map. |

Well, I think Light C and others are pointing out that certain AIs (I would add Cathy to this list for sure) are insane in war/peace situations. They won't make peace ever, unless you sell the farm, even while you are puppeting their cities and crushing their armies.
I've been in the process of taking out Russia's second to last city, and they still wanted the farm (lol). |

If you are wiping out their armies every turn and threatening to invade their core cities, they will sue for peace. Versailles Peace: Giving you all their gold (up to 90,000+), their luxes, their cities, their dignity and any hope that they might have had against you the Runaway Human. Works only the first or second time though
