Mech. Infantry is a gunpowder unit.

This could be easily changed in expansion. But still, more likely it will not count.

How do the ideologies system work exactly?
I didnt find any explanation how the system intrigacies work.

Why would freedom aid growth? Considering the specialists thing and the whole 'extremes of wealth' deal...

I'm confused. In that what we know about Brave New World, many ideology tenets supposedly affect Local Happiness, such as here: "Militarism; +2 Local happiness from each Barracks, Armory and Military Academy."

But in a earlier livestream last month, it was stated that there would be "no significant changes to happiness system (e.g. no local happiness planned)".

Is Local Happiness now simply referring to Global Happiness in relation to the unhappiness that clashing ideologies can cause? Some clarity would be appreciated.

Local happiness bonuses have been in since vanilla. They can be used to offset unhappiness generated by/in that city, but otherwise cannot increase the empire's total happiness. The "no local happiness planned" likely means they're not going to track happiness ratings per city and use them for anything beyond determining global happiness.

When they said that there'd be no changes is that they have not re-done the happiness system, it is the same system as it was in G&K and Vanilla. Take a look at the Culture, although it remains same, the introduction of tenets and ideologies, as well as 2 new policy trees pretty much means "that culture is redone".

Happiness remains the same, but that doesn't mean that nothing new is added that provides happiness.

I expect a fair few. They are reducing the cost (in the rev3games video at 4:45 the player has 9 SPs with four cities and the cost for the tenth is 495 culture - according to this site the cost here would be 1720 culture in vanilla/G&K), but they're reducing culture income as well so it's difficult to judge the balance as of yet. I suspect they shifted the balance to be less exponential, which would mean fewer SPs in the early game and more in the late. It would also mean settling new cities later would be less detrimental to SP acquisition (and potentially speeding acquisition). This is a good move, imo; I never like this particular mechanic for disincentivizing expansion.

All culture buildings I have seen so far only give 1 :c5culture: without a great work, so I think it's natural to assume costs have also gone down, and they can throw in more ways to get free policies since they are less of a balancing problem with the new culture victory. The number of policies has also significantly increased with two new trees and the 15 or so tenets per ideology.
Still 495 instead of 1720 seems like an insanely huge reduction. Did you factor in the game settings ? The previewers play on Chieftain (and probably quick speed) which gives a significant policy cost discount.

Edit: OK, it's a Sunday and I have nothing better to do., so here we go:
According to the table 1720 :c5culture: is the cost for standard setting. Ths is pic is from the Kotaku article, but I think it's a reasonable assumption that all reviewers were playing the same locked-in game.
Spoiler :

Small map has the same map size modifier as normal map, so size doesn't matter in this case, but settler difficulty reduces policy cost by 50% and quick speed by 33%.
So, in unmodded G&K with the same settings and no Oracle his next policy should cost 576 :c5culture:. Now to make matters weird, I just watched the vid and saw that he does have The Oracle. Now his next olicy should cost 474
:c5culture:, meaning the cost has actually increased, assuming that I didn't make some stupid math error which might very well be the case.
But hey, there's also the possibility that The Oracle does something different now (which would be a shame because it's one of my favorite wonders), or that he is actually playing on a higher difficulty. Chieftain only gives a 33% discount and the cost should be 635 :c5culture:.

About the cost:
In the IGN preview (around 5:50) the cost for his 4th tenet (his third tier 1) was 430 culture. He went from 4585 to 5015 required. About 9% increase.
And he had 21 social policies.
Mind you, I don't know if opening an ideology costs culture. And if you're one of the first choosing an ideology you get free tenets. And we don't know what other cost reducing wonders, policies, etc there were.

So actually this information isn't that valuable :p

I like that the "early adopter" bonus is not just for adopting any ideology, but a specific ideology - so even if you are late to the ideology game, you can still get ahead if you choose the ideology noone else has chosen yet. This incentivises more diversity.

This is excellent mechanic. Without this all players could choose freedom for example. Even if Autocracy would be a little weaker, with 2 free tenets its a tempting choice. First level of Autocracy tenets seem pretty weak, but level 2 tenets are pretty strong. And when you combine them with "Clausewitz's Legacy" your army is pretty much unstoppable.

Total War: +25% Production when building Military Units and new Military Units start with +15 Experience.
Lightning Warfare: +3 Movement for Great Generals. Armor units gain +15% attack, +1 Movement and ignore enemy ZOC.
Clausewitz's Legacy: Receive a 25% attack bonus to all Military Units for the first 50 turns after this policy is adopted.

Between your obsession with guns, multiple wars and religious nuttery, America fits Autocracy more, imo. :p

Btw Giant Death Robot is labeled as armored unit in civilopedia. Only with autocracy bonuses they will be pretty strong. 40% attack bonus (= 210 strength), 6 move and ignoring ZOC.

"Capitalism: +1 Happiness from Mint, Bank and Stock Exchange"

I realy dont know how to react to this:

-It seems highly offencive to me that Firaxis ignores all the pain and suffering that banks and stock exchanges have brought over millions of people, all the ruined lives
-It seems ironic that a company from the USA 'says' it, like saying "I realy need a cigarette now!" after you learn you got cancer
-Its somehow frightening, because they could be serious about this, or in the likely case that its just a bad joke, some people might not get it and think its real

I think its totaly strange...

If you want an unhappy society then remove the ability to get a loan from a bank and say goodbye to owning a home, a car, an education, and many other quality of life enhancers.

It you want an unhappy society then remove the mints and we can go back to bartering and or localized currency that does not have backing, say goodbye to wealth security.

If you want an unhappy society then get rid of the stock exchange and eliminate the system that supports most peoples retirement plans, the multiplication of wealth through the middle class and the mechanism for the the most vibrant economies in the last century.

If anything Capitalism should be a more powerful tenet based on how fundamental economic 'freedom' is.

My name is Arioch and I endorse this message.

With all of that said I did like in the rhye's and fall mod that Free Markets had a chance to enter into a depression/recession. Freedom should have as a negative a small chance to fail while order should limit growth but provide some stability. Too bad this doesn't really fit into the civ 5 model where they don't have many side effects or negatives you have to consider.
